And of course not realizing that Hunt is so skilled at understanding people that he knew Hunley would do this and as such put himself in the one place Hunley would never expect him to be… all this of course AFTER tricking the PM into implicating Atlee and confirming the Syndicate isn’t just a myth. Besides the awesomeness that is Hunt, I really like this scene because of the Prime Minister. It may be because the first two roles I saw Tom Hollander play he was a bloodthirsty, power-hungry psycho (Cutler Beckett in Pirates of the Caribbean) and a spineless ambitious git (Minister Simon Foster from In the Loop). So it was rather surprising and nice seeing Hollander play a reasonable authority figure with morals and fortitude who rejected authoritarian powers and showed a willingness to go after those who tried to do it anyway and "help" the IMF. Plus his antics while drugged were hilarious (particularly because he's letting Brandt to finally seduce the rich guy ;) )

One of the things they lost going from the TV show to the movies was the idea that IMF agents are truly secret agents. They never revealed themselves, never grandstanded, just set up the dominoes, knocked down the first one, and made an exit. The one time they "took a bow", so to speak, was because the villain killed an agent, and it was a shocking deviation from the norm.
@paristo4 ай бұрын
That would be so cool... That agents are really kept as secret agents, not as known superhero agents. As that is how the secret agents truly operate, as unknown. And foreign agents, needs to register to the government they are operating with, and they are known.

I like it because it describes clearly and concisely what it really means to be an expert in a field (unique, highly motivated, specialized, number 1, being 10 steps ahead, first class problem-solver). I really hate how they interpreted Blofeld in Daniel Craig's movies. He would've worked fine on his own as James Bond's nemesis but then they just have to go and add the very unnecessary shared backstory between the two, which leads to the implication that Blofeld turned out to be a criminal mastermind and created a global terrorist organization that committed heinous acts worldwide...just to get back at his adopted brother?
