Max's face whe he was playing the music box: a smile - a glimp of nostalgia and memories of happiness which gradually is turning into horror and trauma. Not a single word, or visual flashback used. A subtle scene like this puts this version of Mad Max above and ahead of any other versions.

Seeing the new "Mad Max" Furiosa saddens me because it had tons of narration and zero subtlety. Fury Road and Road Warrior are the best because they like to show, not tell. Too bad Miller is neither willing or able to make one last epic Max adventure with Gibson to give the character a much deserved ending. I really hope that Max gets a bitter sweet ending in the Wasteland.

I was in high school when this came out. Me and two friends arrived at the theater late on opening night, and there was a line of like 80 people waiting to get to the window and buy tickets. The guy driving was going to dump us off by the line of people, and go park. Right as he was sliding the big Buick to a screeching halt in front of the crowd... he saw a spot and nailed the gas. My friend in the back seat was VIOLENTLY ejected from the car!!! We both had or doors open to jump out, but the friend in the back seat had his right foot sliding on the pavement. The Buicks back tire rolled over the heel of his shoe and pinned it to the ground while the car was still rolling 15 or 20mph. We stopped and I ran back to help. He was brushing himself off like "Dang, that was embarrassing but I'm fine!" Guys at the window waved us over and let us cut the line. I paid for the 3 tickets and we were inside... my friend was sore as shit! He was barely maintaining when we got inside and he didn't have to act cool in front of the people that saw him eat shit! So lucky his ankle/leg didn't get destroyed, or worse! Awesome flick too!!!

I have been on visit to Australia exctlay when this movie came out. My cousin (his parents emigrated after ww2 from Germany to Australia) and me, age 13 and 14, watched this movie. We both had open mouthes and were totally charmed by this masterpiece. Sweet and bitter memories; youth long time gone but the rememberance alive as if it was yesterday. Hats off to Mel - great actor, superb director.

I was 14 yo and slouching during the narration at a Saturday matinee for 1 dollar (may have been .75 cents?) When they cut to the cars, I was on the edge of my seat for the next 1 h and 35 minutes! Fantastic. couldn't believe my eyes, nor ears (the music/soundtrack is great) Easily the best action film of all time, but don't sell it short! It is in my top ten films of all time. Right up there with Psycho, The Godfather, Citizen Kane, Ingmar Bergman, Kurosawa, La Dolce Vita, etc. , etc. Have seen it 20x over the years, and could watch it tonight and still be gassed.

They were all good ensemble-acting movies at the early 80s apex of cinema that easily stand the test of time, but Road Warrior topped them all as one of the greatest films ever made. Notice how much better this is that the Furry road. Our hero is not seen as some super human - he does not kill dozens of enemies. He makes them crush into each other - there are only two of them and the motorcycle guy decides to retreat.

I believe that both movies should be appreciated for what they exceed at. I saw Mad Max at the drive-in movie theater with my high school friends. We lived in the Southern California area of Carson. I was already in a garage band (drums) since 1976. But when Road Warrior came out a few years later. This movie inspired me to buy a GS1100S Suzuki Katana motorcycle. I bought leathers and equestrian boots as my riding gear. 1982/83 were great fun years of my young life! I was 19 when this movie came out.

The year is 1981 the location Crockett, Texas. It was a single theater, not much by today's standards, but it was my Grandfather and my eight year-old self. Earlier that day I was shooting at buzzards with a bolt-action in .22LR, had a 100 or so rounds in each of my front pockets, the sights were off, I didn't hit anything. I went into this theater a boy and after seeing the Warrior Woman I left a man.

I met Hugh Keays-Byrne who played the Toecutter in the 1st MAD MAX and Immortan Joe in FURY ROAD. …well I didn’t actually meet him. I was checking out a replica of Max’s black intercepter at Supanova Sydney and I could feel someone watching me. All the cast of MM1 were sitting behind desks signing stuff… but the toecutter was staring right at me. He made my blood run cold, then he just laughed out loud! …I just shook my head and laughed back. That guy was truly freaky!!! Oh and MM2 was the best for atmosphere by far.

Right on. It's meant to take place in the real world so why CGI? it's not magic or some distant planet - the CGI in the latest movies (even when they just visually change the background or "enhance" it makes it seem unreal.

Mad Max 3 came out in 1985. Went to the movie theaters for that pne. This one around 82-83 ish.

The two most disturbing scenes in this film. When Dog was shot with the crossbow and Max smashed The Interceptors front end. I didn't mind Vince Neil copping a boomerang to the noggin.

Imo that was dumb to ram another vehicle and risk damaging his own engine to gain nothing and why would he risk grabbing a snake when he could've just clubbed it with the crowbar, there's no er around if he had lost. Not good decisions in those situations, but still a great movie.

I remember during the “oil embargo” of ‘73-‘74 that the young sky is falling types predicted that the world would run dry of oil in 1994. Well, 50 years on we know that it didn’t, nor will that happen. And The same sky is falling types that are still around today have predicted that the sky will be falling any time now just as they did 50 years ago.

@@pat5882 we're always learning more and operating on the limited information we have. Our thirst for oil is so insatiable that we have invested quite a bit into recovering all that we possibly can. This habit has increased our proven reserves. But the day will come when the well runs dry. Guaranteed.

The oil embargo in the 70's was the main catalyst for the creation of Mad Max. I remember reading an interview with George Miller when they first announced that they were making Fury Road, in it he said that he saw two guys getting into a fistfight at a gas station during rationing because one of them had jumped the line and wanted to refuel his car before it ran out. Seeing regular people fighting tooth and nail for "a tank of juice" really struck a chord with him and it gave us the brilliant movies we have today.
