The knew it took more than 2 years to reach that system at top speed... they also knew Vickers would have 2 years of supplies on the lifeboat. Add more people to the lifeboat, the supplies last for an even shorter time. Their choice was to die a quick death ramming the other vessel, or sit in a lifeboat waiting for the air, food and water to run out, long before any rescue could ever find you. If you think about it from the knowledge they had about their options, it's not that surprising they chose the quick and painless option.
@sacr3
@sacr3 8 ай бұрын
@@jimbobeirethat still doesn't seem to make much sense, people don't just willingly accept death unless it is extremely necessary. If you are offered an option to survive for another year or two, or even more based on how little you decide to eat, over exploding into pieces, that's almost everybody would choose to stay in that craft and try their best to survive. Suicide is not something that is encoded in our brains to Simply choose over other options of potential survival and hope. I know if I was one of those Engineers on the ship I would most definitely choose to try and survive on that ship with chicky poo. While waiting for that potential two years or a little bit less or a little bit more depending on how much you ration, you can explore the other ship, look for resources, try and find a way to extend your stay and all the while potentially get some good p****.
@jimbobeire
@jimbobeire 8 ай бұрын
@@sacr3 exploding into pieces is an instant death. Being stuck in a small ship, slowly running out of food, water and air, is a different story. It took them more than 2 years to reach that place at full speed. And so even if they managed to transmit a mayday message, they'd run out of food and water long before anyone came to get them. They'd essentially be trapped in a small prison with nothing to do, but wait to die. Maybe they'd get lucky and some other expedtion would happen to pass and hear them, and maybe they wouldn't.

The ships would’ve still crashed, electronic shields deflect small energy weapons and particles, not near same physical masses ramming at full speed. Edit: Looking at the video again, it looks like the Engineer’s ship was shielded with an extremely tough hull, the Prometheus was completely demolished while no physical damage occurred to the donut ship. It was just the force of the crash caused it to spin out of control down to the planet.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish Version) was a masterpiece. The Girl who played with Fire, the second move in the trilogy was good as well, but I also liked the third one. All three complete part of a story, and it was good the way the story ended. You have to not mind reading subtitles, but it is much better than the dubbed version. The accents in the movie makes it more enjoyable. It was Noomi's performance in the 'Dragon Tattoo" movie that prompted Ridley Scott to consider Noomi for Prometheus. I actually saw Prometheus first, and feel in love with Noomi. It was only then that I realized she was in the Dragon series of movies, as well as "What Happened to Monday" where she plays 7 siblings. Another great movie. All the people hating on Prometheus, when they themselves are unlikely to every contribute anything of real value.
