The task of adapting Watchmen into film was gargantuan. The fact that Zach Snyder put out anything at all let alone an almost 3 hour long R rated comic book movie with 0 big names attached is nothing short of a hard earned miracle. Snyder and this movie has its faults but he obviously knew the material very well and it was made with a lot of admiration.

It really isnt anymore than the Gus Van Sant's "Psycho" shot for shot remake which is NOT a great film, although i do find it more compelling than Watchmen. Taken on its own, _Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut_ is a masterpiece. Just like Keanu Reeves' _Contantine_ it is a flawed adaptation of its source material, and yes, Synder should have had the balls and kept the squid in. The whole point was that it was a supervillain plan... and it worked. Coming right after Reagan told Gorbachev that "if we were attacked by aliens, we'd come together" in 1985, the squid plan absolutely makes sense in that timeline Too many are too hung up on that Outer Limits thing, but that is not at all what Moore was referencing in the book. As with almost everything he's ever done, he takes his references from the political and social things that happened at the time he was writing it, and then extrapolates it to its satirical and outlandish logical conclusion

I am glad a lot of people enjoy this adaption. Personally, as someone who watched it when they were 15, again every few years, and have read the book multiple times, I can't stand this adaption. It is such a surface level understanding of watchman. Ignore the squid, focus on the fact that the heroes look cool. Ignore that they are superhuman, even though a big point in watchman is that no one has superpowers other than Dr. Manhatten. The slow motion, the dark colors that really ruin the orignals great coloring evocative of the Era. The fact that Adrian has no ambiguity. He is completely evil from the beginning, Snyder frames him like a devil from an overly dramatic opera. I do admire the movie technically, and the fact that Snyder adapted something meant to be impossible to adapt. But I really wish there was more nuance.

Zack Snyder is so underrated and doesn’t get the praise he deserves for filming Watchmen. It’s not perfect, of course it’s not, but it’s a great film and an achievement none the less.

Normally I would’ve chewed you out, because I’m so sick of hearing “underrated.” People overuse it and throw it around too much. Not to mention they falsely use it. But you’re right, this actually was an underrated movie

I think Tom Cruise as Ozymandias could have been awesome
@nsasupporter75572 жыл бұрын
But that would’ve been too expensive, Tom Cruise is one of the biggest stars ever

Michael Fassnender would've good as Ozymandias.

Snyder did good with this one. Still holds up today but can’t help but wonder what a Gilliam helmed film would have been like.

Alot of people hate on this movie but I dont get why, this is one of my favorite snyder films. Now the HBO show sucks, that deserves the hate.

Johnny barnard, tbh its not easy to digest for a casual viewer. it takes a minute to get used to it. the bluray is over 3hours. i was like "whew, chile"

I'll make simple for you. It misses the point of the book. Gone is the complexity, the subtlety, and nuance. In its place is what 10 year thinks watchmen should be because he did understand what little he and mostly looked at the pictures and said wow boobs.
@faded1to3black2 жыл бұрын
@@marcusluera89 yeah, this is the typical Snyder hater criticism for the movie. Even if he had made it completely panel for panel, which he damn near did, you'd still find something wrong with it because your hate boner for Snyder is so strong. It doesn't "miss the point" at all. Thats just something snyder haters love to claim because they can't possibly admit Snyder did a good job, probably better than anyone else could have.

Don't like his take on DC but this film is amazing, despite differing from the source material. The cinematography is mind blowing.

I watched this movie once, at least. I liked it, but for some reason it wasn't as big a deal to me as it probably should have been. I just think it was a bad time in my life so I didn't really have time to process the film. I should give it another go.

They removed the tentacle monster from the end because they could never get it look right and believable in either practical effects or CGI and even trying would balloon the budget to something unfeasible. Dr. Manhattan was meant to look odd and other worldly so any oddness or uncanny valley from the special effects would work in the movie.

I honestly think that Tales of the Black Freighter worked better as an animated inclusion because it better represent that the kid is reading that story and its not just some random thing happening throughout the film, also that watchmen tv show should have been anything else, it spit in the face of the original and in no way feels like a real continuation of the story

Zack was really wanted Tom cruise as Adrian . I THINK it should've got a wider appeal to it if he was in the movie..... Anyways Watchmen is my fav comic book movie of all time I even owened the Ultimate-Cut Steel book🔥
