Jim Carrey only made the Grinch because of his daughter, he has said in interviews he played the roll for her and would have done it for free, so any critique of it didn't matter to him, as long as his daughter enjoyed it.

The Cable Guy was such a fantastic film. Its definitely what made me like him. I found him almost intolerable before, and the irony that the intolerable Chip was so endearing and identifiable, in an adolescent way? I would love to read your paper, and the guy who done The Truman Show one. Great films and great choices for papers. 👍👍

Same with most of them. And musicians. One example is kurt cobaine I know for sure, he didnt write teen spirit, he hated it too. They have people who write these songs and use the peoples lives and interesting backstories, and styles to push agendas for the generation at the time. It's all control. Observe how people suddenly dressed and how nirvana "took over the music world" for so long, and how they pushed that grunge lifestyle for so long, and the generation ate it up.

The Cable Guy is my favorite Carrey movie. I think his reputation did the film a disservice because people were expecting the same tone as Ace Ventura. The film floats somewhere in the murky middle of psychological thriller, comedy, and drama. There aren't a whole lot of films like it and I think Carrey's performance is severely underrated.

@@shakesfirst2443 Yes, I'm sure he signed a contract. And while I'm no Hollywood insider, I'd be willing to bet that included in that contract were provisions for being available for promotion of the finished product. However, my larger point was that if he felt the movie's ethics were lacking because it "glorified gun violence", then why are you even willing to act in it? Why create a product that you are unwilling to be proud to promote? For example, if I think that recreational use of Meth is bad, I'm not going to help someone set up a Meth Lab, then later say with grandiose condescension, "Oh, I don't believe in taking Meth, it ruins lives..."

you are right, but getting an Oscar is like joining a ferternity. It looks cool to everyone else and on paper, but the person joining has no idea what they are getting into. I personally think Jim Carrey could care less receiving anything but they money he deserved so he could do what he wanted to do in life. A free spirit. Maybe his perormance should entilte him to an Oscar, but who really cares about that anyway. As Jim would say in the Mask, "They love me, they realllly love me." 🥰🙄

"we must show the actors love". Maybe that is part of the problem. Love the work, hate the work. But that isn't who they are. Because of my job I worked with many famous people. I treated them with respect just like I do with everyone I work with. And that was all anyone wants. Treat them like real people and you'll see real people. Idolize them and they will be distant, aloof and cautious. People want something from famous people. Their picture, their autograph, a moment of their time. Stop it. They gave at the office. Being with famous people is enlightening. They aren't magical. They have nothing that will rub off on you. Stop trying to give them something so they will give you something incredible in return.

I've always liked Jim's acting. The problem is that comedy changes with the times and many of the old performers don't know how to reinvent themselves. I like Adam Sandler but his style is also old and I think he realizes that since he is taking on more credible roles. But to look back on both of them you realize that almost every movie is the same thing as the last one, the result causing it to lose a little more luster with each new release.

Jim Carrey's drama works only because there's an honesty in his acting that works both in his mania and his depression. For anyone that's experienced both sides of that coin in life, it's easy to see how scripted the lives and role selection for most actors is but Jim feels real; Jim is real. I wouldn't say that Jim Carrey has been acting for years, rather he's been projecting the roles, embracing a reality that can be expressed through script. Some would say that's acting, I would not; acting feels fake, it feels setup, it feels directed... What Jim Carrey has been doing, well it feels overly lifelike.

Then DJT got elected and he woke up from his internal coma long enough to make an ass out of himself as a lot of other actors have done. God knows and I don't care where he is now. Yup. I don’t have a problem with anyone speaking their mind and celebs are entitled to their opinions just like everyone else. The issue is the sanctimonious lecturing and the utter hypocrisy. Perfect example is that climate summit many of them attend yearly. It’s all done in super posh private locations. They arrive via yachts, private planes or big limos yet they’re lecturing and funding initiatives to stick us all in electric cars, kill coal miners’ jobs, using those dumb cardboard straws, etc. It’s all so utterly ridiculous. Like hey, if you guys care so much about the earth and the climate, live by example. Give your luxury huge ass carbon foot print lifestyles and just live like the rest of us while donating a big chunk of your money to helping poor people, maybe buy those who want them, those electric cars electric cars.

Jim is one of the best comedians and actors of all time. I imagine he is roughly equal, to 3 of the best British comedians combined, that I can think of, off the top of my head. Rik Mayall, John Cleese and Phill Cool. Luv ya Jim and thank you for so many great laughs and needing stitches in my side moments. 💪🏼💪🏻💪🏼💪💛💛💛💛🤣🤣🤣🤣

I support Jim and his spiritual awakening, but at the some time I don’t support his leftist views. Supposedly, being woke was the same as being spiritual and piercing the veil of society, but instead devolved to bigoted pandering.

I don't even know why he would have ever wanted to stop doing, comedy I get it actors don't like to get pigeonholed into a certain kind of type-casting but really in my opinion. I feel like everything he's ever even done lately just sucks. Like even up to the Me Myself and old Irene the old Jim Carrey died a long time ago. Shit, he died sometime before he did the fucking Andy Kaufman movie.

Sanction Extremis Yeah okay? Is that your whole argument?? If not, then shut up, nobody cares. I was adding my own viewpoint of the situation because I vividly remember when this happened, I looked into it a little bit and this is truly what I believe. In other words, I at least had something to add to the conversation besides worthless snarky commentary, unlike some people. 😉 (Edited for punctuation)
