WTF Happened to WILL SMITH?

It was the slap heard around the world. March 27th, 2022 should have been the greatest moment of Will Smith’s career. He had worked his entire career towards finally winning the award that would prove, beyond any doubt, that he genuinely had the respect and admiration of his peers - the Academy Award. Indeed, Will Smith won that night for King Richard, but he also lost something precious. He lost the respect of his peers after an ill-advised (but innocuous) joke by Chris Rock led to the #OscarSlap that, until the day he dies, will haunt Smith.
All that said, Smith is still a legend. One of the most effortlessly charming actors to ever grace the silver screen, he was bound for greatness from the time he starred in NBC’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as a young rapper. Bad Boys proved his talent was too big to be constrained to the small screen, and his run of hits was legendary. Independence Day, Men in Black, Enemy of the State, Ali, and on, and on. That should not be swept away because of one (big) mistake. In this episode of WTF Happened to this Celebrity, written (with Brad Hamerly), narrated and produced by Taylor James Johnson, we dig into Smith’s career, the controversy, and most importantly, a way forward for the former (and future) superstar.

You know, I learned three of my summarized rules from Will Smith. 1. I’m willing to work three times as hard plus show determination on my precious talent in order to win the Oscars nomination. 2. Keep my hands to myself at the Oscar’s. I don’t want to be banned or lose everything I have that I worked hard for. 3. Never love or marry a wrong woman who doesn’t love you for you.

Will is a kid from the same neighborhood as me. He always took the high road back then and it's why he became world famous. However, his rap career was corny to the people he grew up with. We thought is was real garbage, simple and weak. He never got over that. It didn't matter that he was universally mega. Then Jada (a real witch) let him know Tupac is her true love. She's from Baltimore and hardrock dudes are her thing. Will ain't that. So his wife thinks he's soft. Not a good thing for a black man from W Philly. Then he finds out she's screwing his son's friend by the friend telling him. "Hey Mr. Smith I'm smashing your wife". That's really taking someone for being a patsy. Then, then his wife has him appear on her silly self gossip show and totally humiliates him. Dude actually tears up. Well that doesn't play well with the brothas or sistas. Yo, this is his life, he's a mega star but that's all movie sets and writing. We all know what happened next. One last look of disappointment from that wretch he lives with that told him he ain't no man and he lost his mind. They should have played Bel Biv Devoe, that's girl is poison after he chin check Chris. Will needs to stop chasing Pac and real rap artist and figure out who he is and be comfortable with that guy. Dude is lost in movie roles, husband roles, father roles and music lyrics. WTF, Who The Fu-- is Will Smith?

Jada sounds like cancer, like she can quickly read a person and slowly break them. Seen a few women growing up who I swear do this as a hobby. They know how to glow, apply the charm and sexual tension and suddenly yank it away like they just ripped the soul out of a man. It's so damn hard to remind guys that there are other women out there but once they catch that virus it's hard to shake off.

Will Smith is a great actor and entertainer. I love many of his movies and yeah, in the 90's and early 2000's I also enjoyed some of his music. But even as a fan of his work, I found much of his personal life pretty off-putting. His wife always seemed like a *very* bad choice and the way he dragged his children into the spotlight, also didn't feel right. Looking at the cringy nonsense Jaden and Willow are uttering in interviews and on social media now, this child celebrity lifestyle wasn't really good for them. I think the first time I had a bad feeling about Will Smith's personal development was after seeing an interview with him when his "Ali" movie came out. Since I really enjoyed the movie (like most of Michael Mann's work) and my father was a big fan of Muhammad Ali, I ate up all the information I could find on this production. Much of the stuff Smith said about his preparation for the movie and how he identifies with the role, just seemed very awkward and divorced from reality. Still I didn't think too much of it. Could have been just a phase or maybe Ali's life story got to his head in a method acting kinda way. Hollywood weirdos being weird. Nothing new, even back then. But then the whole charade with his children and his wife seemed to become increasingly ridiculous and weird every year. Simultaneously Smith said/did more and more stuff that seemed really off-putting to me. The way "After Earth" turned out to be some embarrassing vanity project, also didn't help. And then he made the biggest mistake of his life so far: Joining "KZbin Rewind 2018". 😅 To make a long story short: The more I found out about Smith's personal life, the more toxic it seemed. If he alone is the source of that or if his marriage brought him onto that path - I don't know. But when "the slap" happened, I wasn't really surprised. I think it wasn't just some kind of slip-up. It was the moment when all the years of Smith's personal missteps suddenly became undeniably clear to the public eye. We all could have seen it before, but since he seemed so likeable in his movies, most people preferred to ignore it. In the end I really hope, this will be a wake-up call for Will. I hope instead of uttering more esoteric mumbo jumbo, he'll take a long hard look at himself and start to get rid of all the toxic bagagge in his life. I wish him all the best for that. Greetings from Germany :)

Will Smith is or was a great actor and entertainer. I loved many of his movies and I even enjoyed his music pretty much in the 90's. But even as a fan of a ot of his past work, I find much of his personal life pretty off-putting. And his greedy and star-acting attitude not to charming. About 14 movies of his career I liked. The rest are a mix of forgettble to bad; - The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air - Bad Boys 1 - Independence Day - Men in Black 1-3 - Enemy of the State - I, Robot - The Pursuit of Happyness - I Am Legend - Hancock (50/50) - Ali - Concussion - Suicide Squad No good movies since 2016..... and slapping Chris Rock like that and cursing out loud, that just made me feel he have no class.

Will probably fkd the bananas out of Rosario off the set and then told Jada about it. She knew her man was a public image fraud. She had no respect for the phony so she got hers. Stop it. The argument of "he's just human" or "nobody's perfect" is just silly. We all know he's a human. The problem here is that he is an egomaniac who felt he had license to slap a man because his feelings got hurt by a harmless joke. There's no excuse for that, especially when Will Smith straight up celebrated after THEN he came back with his tears acting like he was sorry. Will Smith is not an evil guy, but just because he's not evil doesn't mean what he did shouldn't weigh on his reputation.

I can easily answer this. Smiths ego has long been out of control in Hollywood and he finally decided to express it by going up on stage and assaulting someone on live television. You can see his ego grow with each movie, to me he has always been a B- actor and he, his kids and wife are some of the biggest narcissists in Hollywood. I’m glad we got to witness the real Will Smith at the awards.

i agree. he's basically the same in every movie. he was okay in Men in Black, but i think that had more to do with proper casting rather than acting capability.

Can’t blame Will for what his wife put him Thru, I can blame him for how he acted at the Oscar’s and it’s a shame on the Oscars he wasn’t escorted out by police, idc that he refused to leave he broke a law n should’ve been arrested

Actually you can. A man's actions are his own and Will has been stubborn from day 1. Even Jada warned him
