Hi I'm currently in year 12 and biomedical science is a potential degree that I'm looking at. However, at the moment anyway, in really hate doing practicals and lab work at school. And also there seems to be some sort of research thing in the final year of the course, and I don't know how I feel about that. Is the lab work that you do at degree still boring and stressful? I'm sort of wondering if in should do something less lab based like Neuroscience or Nursing... If in don't like labs, is doing the degree at all not advisable? Thanks :)

I have to admit, that the lab work we did at undergrad First Year wasn't amazing. We had around 300 students on our course so our lab practicals couldn't be too specific or engaging. Having said that, we got to work in a lab for 2 months in our 3rd year to do a big final project and personally I loved it. I think it really depends. But, you can choose not to do a 2 month lab project, and just do a 2 month project on the computer analysing data or doing bioinformatics, so it is still worth doing the degree if you love the topic :) good luck!

I am curious as to know why you didn’t let them know your ambitions for medicine?
@atousa5752

I didn't want them to doubt my commitment to working in research. Even though my big goal was to do medicine, I still love and value research a lot! and I wanted them to be sure of this :)

lolly pop of course not, you're not guaranteed a job whatever degree you do. however, it is a good degree that would serve you well in trying to get a job in a variety of fields.

Hi lolly, I definitely agree with the comment left by 'Marvin's Square Tie' (great name haha) - It's definitely a very useful and diverse degree but its up to you to choose a suitable job to do with it :)

Why do you want to get into medicine? I am almost done with my medical degree and I hated almost every bit of it. I'm only interested in doing research and would like to never see a patient in my life. I'd happily trade my medical degree for yours hahah :D
