Horse working with jockey helmet camera. How Fast is a thoroughbred race horse galloping? Clocked with HR/GPS onboard at 44mph for a few seconds. GoPro Hero 3 action camera/video camera. This is not American Pharoah winner of Kentucky Derby 2015, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes making him the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years since Affirmed in 1978 and Seattle Slew in 1977. American Pharoah has also claimed the Breeder's Cup Classic, what is called the Grand Slam of horse racing by winning those 4 elite American horse races. This is what it looks like from the jockey's point of view to "work out" a race horse at high speed. You might notice American Pharoah is spelled wrong and that's because the idiot owner's son registered the horse with the spelling mistake. Watch his stablemate run here • GoPro Jockey Cam Race ...
Make sure you click the link in the video to the heart rate monitor chart on this horse. You may find it very interesting. Many thoroughbreds, like American Pharoah, can reach these burst of fast galloping speeds, but it does nothing more than give you an indication of the horse's max galloping speed. A horse will almost never win a race over a half mile if he reaches his absolute top speed in the race. A thoroughbred race horse galloping at a 44 mph pace will quickly tire and falter, allowing his rivals to pass him in the stretch. It really doesn't matter how fast Triple Crown winner American Pharoah can gallop. It matters how fast the 2015 Kentucky Derby Winning horse can run and how far he can maintain this fast galloping pace. This is how he won the Breeder's Cup 2015.
GoPro Hero 3 Helmet Cam. Jockey cam shows what super fast galloping at 44 mph (workout ) looks like from rider POV. Please Subscribe, Like and Share. American Pharoah Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown Winner 2015
A champion Triple Crown winning race horse like, American Pharoah 2015, needs to have a large efficient heart and a high ration of fast twitch muscle fibers. Both these traits can be measured. The muscle tissue can be biopsied and the heart measured with an ultrasound machine. The heart can also be measured with a heart rate monitor which tells you how hard a horse is working at a specific speed or workload. The GoPro Hero 3 Jockey Cam and HR monitors make a great pair. If a horse can maintain a high cruising speed and continue work out near the aerobic threshold, then he would be an exceptional animal. All this said, the horse will still need proper conditioning and be mentally sound to be considered a great thoroughbred race horse like California Chrome, 2014 winner, and other Kentucky Derby Winners. Watch some field galloping • Racehorses Galloping H...
If you have never had the opportunity and wondered what it would be like to open up on a thoroughbred race horse like American Pharoah, then maybe this helmet camera video will give you a little taste of the thrill. Enjoy riding along with a GoPro Hero 3 mounted to the jockey's helmet. How Fast Can A Horse Run? Gallop? Watch 5 Keys To Race Horse Speed! • 5 Keys To Race Horse S...

Staying on! Need major core, arm, shoulder, and leg strength especially in the 2 point jockey position. Only knees touch the saddle. Never know when a horse might take a wrong step, stumble, spook.

It's a physical activity. Imagine sitting on a moving bike attached to a car going 45mph and the only thing you have to keep you on is two irons for your feet and a tiny seat you cannot sit on. Oh, and the car will speed up if you squeeze with your legs too hard or pull on the handles. Also, sometimes the bike likes to rear up or take a giant buck with you just because. Yup, totally not difficult, right?

I love videos like this one, it brings back memories of what it felt like to be riding my own horse 25 years ago. I bought him when he was about a year old, raised him to 2 1/2, slow broke him gently for riding. I rode him almost daily. To say we bonded would be an understatement, I loved that horse. I'd whistle for him from the back porch and he'd answer with a whinny from the far end of the pasture down by the creek and come running to meet me at the barn. Sadly the day came after 3 more years when, due to my worsening neurological disorder I could no longer care for him properly nor mount him to go riding, and I was forced to sell him.

There really is nothing like the rush of a horse galloping flat out. Motorcycle isn't the same nor a car... really it's in a class of its own. Well worth learning to ride to experience. I used to exercise a former race horse... Would take him to the far corner of the mile field and let him rip! He knew he was going to get a gallop when I'd shorten my stirrups up, and he'd get all light on his feet and happy. Then he would leap off on the first stride - just like he was coming out of the starting gates...

Beautiful, starts out at a nice easy breeze, slowly accelerates, almost a full run, but this is not as fast as this horse can run. Put another TB with him and you will see another gear. He is very sensitive to the bit, still has a soft mouth. Impressive. This is a great example of why anyone who isn't familiar with ex racehorses shouldn't try to retrain one fresh off of the track without experienced help. And this horse is under complete control by the rider. Nice ride, thank you for sharing.

First time I ever experienced being on the back of a racer at flat out gallop I was 10yrs old and a young groom / trainee instructor took me to Southport Beach. Asked if I was sure I wanted to have a gallop ("Yep I'm sure!!") then just shouted "OK don't try to hit the brakes - loosen up - let him go!!" and we passed her flat out before she'd finished. I could ride and was a confident rider but Jesus I did not expect that. Took my breath away and once I'd got into a rhythm I just remember a deafening wind in my ears, eyeballs dry as camel bollocks and seeing everything hurtling by through two pricked ears. "Light speed is too slow. We're gonna have to go right to... LUDICROUS SPEED!"

These horses know their job! First time I was on the 'training gallops', I was a little worried about stopping, or about a rabbit hole , but the horses know the routine- this one definitely is speedy- it is a wonderful feeling. I'd be far too worried to ride at 100mph on a motorway, or at the TT races, coming off at that speed, don't even think about it. Stay safe :)

there's brakes. they're called reigns and voice. You pull back gently, and say Whoa. you also lean back in the saddle, known as a roll back

Paul Drake race horses are pretty standard, lengthen up your reins so you have a contact but not none and subtle tweaks of the reins and talk to them

Erin Stotler Not when you're in two point position, you can't really lean back but the horses know when to slow down anyway.

Thoroughbreds generally love to run. This is a fact. In fact, they love to run at full speed on occasion. Responsible trainers race sound horses for races and scratch on a race if either the horse isn't up to par. This too is a fact. The horse in that video wasn't being forced to do anything it didn't want to do. In fact, if you watch closely, it takes the horse a second to respond to the rider's command to slow down and ease up. He was enjoying his job. Go for a ride sometime and feel it.

that poor person on the other horse. Bit reckless galloping past like that. That was quite an experience, particularly the corners.

More dogs and cats need help from abusive owners than horses. You should change your focus. You can't save all the animals and that's a shame. You can't change all the ignorant pet owners either. so if you have billions of money and millions of acres to take care of the forgotten animals then you are fighting a lost battle.Spend you energy loving your animals more and doing something positive for humanity. We have personally been very successful at retraining these horses to have jobs after racing.

The only way this could have been remotely better would to have had a dual audio feed to catch and mix back the footfalls...the four cadence that a full gallop produces...you can still hear it if you listen....great vid, you captured what it feels like. As for myself, I've done this twice, unintentionally on a young mare who fortunately is no worse for the wear nor is her "Jockey" Nice Job!!

I taught my Parisian, rather effete husband how to ride and horses seem to adore him -- preferred speed FULL GALLOP! I've seen him and the horse floating above the ground. They will do anything for him, fearlessly. Others said immediately, he could steeplechase so I put him to some races. This is such a cute, fun clip!!!!! Uprated.
