The Corps is too filled with leaders obsessed with rules and regulations who don't actually care about their guys so you don't get guys like this. The good ones get out or go MARSOC. The MARSOC and Recon senior NCOs and officers I met were just like this. Quality people are only in the special operations units these days.

I'm pretty sure they learn that at the academy or ocs. Believe it or not there are still courses for proper behavior and what not for officers. And when you spend 20 plus years you have to laugh at less peoples jokes. I just wonder if jocko has red stripes, doesn't seem like it though.

I was one of four Marines who went to Class 93 for the Scuba portion of 2nd phase. It didn't take long to realize what a deal Navy Seals and still at that time UDT was.

@@mfenix88 the experience in general today means that young men start their training pipeline before they ever enlist. That goes for Air Force PJs, Marines heading to Recon or MARSOC, the Navy obviously, and even for those that want to be in the Regiment. When I was young we just dreamed of being whatever and went for it.

Yep and I’ve seen many of them do the exact same thing when they move to civilian coroporate leadership, particularly those that have government contracts. They often get high paying director level positions without even having any prior experience in the technical area they are given control over. This destroys morale of everyone under them.

Anyone know the time frame Maguire talks about leading BUDS? There’s a line I’m trying to track down, to paraphrase “you’re all here because you can do this, the only reason you won’t is if you quit on yourself”.
