Good to hear that the general was in the same operation I was as a private medic. I was an Australian soldier and served with the yanks and the Brits on Operation Provide Comfort. I’m looking at my certificate of appreciation signed and delivered by Lieutenant General John M. Shalikashvili. The yanks were the best of allies, great soldiers, professional and so welcoming to their equipment poor cousins the Australians. The US Military provided us with air cover and Pepsi.

What an Awesome guy. Work ethic is the best thing a parent can teach you. I worked hard in our family bustiness, an old peoples home, that we built from scratch , my single mum and myself, after being homeless for 4 years before that. She bought a run down old boarding house, with a little bit of money she got in an inheritance after her father died. She looked after two patients as we slowly re painted and cleaned up the property. I worked 7 days a week, before and after school and at the weekends, it was 24/7 and I worked extremely hard, while my friends were off to the beach and parties! I hated it at the time, but it taught me so much and I wouldn’t change a thing. We built that business into a successful 30 bed residence, with mum retiring a millionaire. But it wasn’t about the money, it was about making the residences last years comfortable and happy. That was the pay off. ❤

When the General says he thought the brain/mental injuries from war was weakness (before he changed his view) is sad cause that is still a viewpoint many have. The best way I have heard it is explained is thus: When you break your arm, shatter it, no one in this world expects you to be able to treat that injury by yourself. You see a Doctor and specialists help you heal that injury. When your mind is similarly injured, it would be insanity to expect someone to heal and treat that injury by themselves. It is on par with asking someone to set and treat a shattered arm. You need a specialist.
