@Custom Made I think there's a whole other side to this that a lot of people will see. I think a lot of people will recognize that his daughter isn't actually guilty of anything in particular -- teenage angst and rebellion is a part of being a teenager. Most people would hear of a teenage girl or boy being a little shit to their parents and think, "Sounds about right." So there isn't anything inherently shameful with her behavior or Jocko's response to it. And if you notice, he didn't spend any time in that letter degrading his daughter or telling her anything she is doing wrong or could be doing better. He simply took the time to try to model behavior he would like for his children to adopt for themselves, which is appreciation. I almost wish my dad would have written me a letter like this when I was her age because I believe there's something truly special going on here. The girl is being enlightened to who her mother truly is. And that's incredible. Now she'll recognize there's a complex person with many lifetimes of experience behind who she used to think was just 'mom'. This could do wonders for their relationship going into the future.
