This history is over a dozen centuries long. They barely scratch the surface of why the conflict in the Middle East (sorry if that isnt PC, but we all know what I mean) will never subside. If you have read Sword and Scimitar (Raymond Ibrahim) or Infidels Guide (any of them by Robert Spencer) you will begin to see that almost no amount of good will, or money spent, or favors garnered, there will always be a select subsection of religious extremists ( no matter how great or minor the percentage of the aggregate population) who will always feel a religious compulsion to fight infidels. I didn't say Westerners, or Capitalists... Infidels. Anyone who doesn't submit to the teachings of Mohammed. This began with the Byzantine Empire I believe (Christians and eventually Jewish races). Hopefully the can do an episode this podcast discussing the latent history of this religion and this part of the globe, and hopefully help people understand that this is a conflict as old as the religion itself. *JUST SPEAKING OBJECTIVELY, (given my research into this up till now) NO OFFENSE GIVEN TO ANY SUBJECT OF ANY RACE OR RELIGION* Please correct me if I am out of line.

A lot of people foget that we had a professional military who was trained to fight a large armored force that the Soviets had all the way up into the 90s. Where tanks and planes were expected to kill 5 of their's to every one loss of ours where we had doctrine to meet the Soviet union anywhere in the world to fight. If given the American military the chance to fight like it is suppose to do with possible casualties theres no way we would of lost... we werent going to use WW1 tacticss the Iraq and Iranians used against each other we were taught to move fast and aggressive even in a defensive posture. Thank you for your show and your service.

In terms of people disbelieving that you could accidentally shoot down a civilian airliner. It is way easier for something like that to happen than you think. During the Falklands conflict, the royal navy task group was regularly shadowed by an Argentinian military plane that would retreat when discovered. On one occasion they detected the plane and were ready to shoot it down with sea dart anti-air missiles. The commander of the fleet however decided at the last minute to send a Sea Harrier up to check and see for certain. Turns out it was a civilian airliner. That is how close you can get to really bad mistakes when in war.

Found your podcasts a couple months ago. By far one of the best things on youtube. Stories and life lessons all should hear. So please hear this slight criticism knowing i'd like to see nothing but success for your channel. Have your guests pull their mics closer or do a sound check if possible. Example- i can hear you loud and clear at volume 14 but have to crank it up to 25 to clearly hear this guest. Makes it almost impossible to watch for those of us with hearing issues.

I take sort of a Ron Paul stance on war, especially when it has to do with things or countries not directly significant with respect to national security...and when war has not been declared by congress. If Americans, in the interest of liberating the rest of the world want to do something, I believe the best way will be with persuasive ideas....that others want to imitate or emulate....in other words....influence revolution through more peaceful means. I think we should have done a better job investigating how and why 911 occurred. Good luck and thanks for all that you all do.

No boots on the ground in Kosovo? Camp Bondsteel was stood up in April 1999, it is still there and we are still rotating troops into it. Kosovo, which is a little bigger than Rhode Island, has 23 different county's military present within it. While it is true that at the onset, then President Clinton 'attempted' to operate via air only, hindsight has shown that to be more of a distraction to his domestic issues. I cannot believe neither Jocko nor Mr. Cooper could remember very early on in that conflict, when three American soldiers were captured. I was in basic training at the time - and this is the image that greeted us in the chow hall: www.cnn.com/WORLD/europe/9904/01/nato.attack.02/

This concept is cool, I like Jocko being able to discuss events in addition to books and interviews. Nice work Jocko and Mr. Cooper. One time in this episode, and one time episode 1, Mr. Cooper describes aspects of the Saddam regime that bear a resemblance to Christopher Hitchens' angle of observation. I do not believe Mr. Cooper 'lifted' these, I just think Hitch said it better: Specifically - the part in episode 1 where he says "anyone who things Saddam is bad..." doesn't know how evil he was. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZu3eX6AbrFkpJo Then in this episode (2) describing the 1979 coup (Mr. Cooper incorrectly describes it as Saddam reading the names himself, he does not - an already tortured party member is forced to read it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYOUiWawi5uLa7s It is slightly incorrect to say Ba'athism is 'secular' - this is true only in that it promotes separating religion and the state, having been founded by a Christian in a majority Muslim country, one can see why. That key founding member (Michel Aflaq) did convert to Islam though. It is impossible to separate the relationship of Islam, religion in general, from the atrocities of the Saddam regime. This is a guy who after all, commissioned a Quran to be written in his own blood, claimed to have done so, and put it on display. The anti-Jewish nature of the Ba'ath party really makes religion and the party inseparable. If you still doubt Islam played a role or was important to Saddam, watch his trial, and execution. I know the intent was not to provide a biography of Saddam, but when it was stated "Stayed with his uncle for a while..." - kind of glosses over the influence this uncle had, who showed him Nazi-ism as a good thing, anti-semitic/pro arab sentiment as a good thing, violence as a good thing, and the famous early arab leaflet he helped produce which stated "God only made two mistakes: flies and Jews".
@tasfiatanzila4 жыл бұрын
‘Pro-Arab sentiment’ is not a bad thing.
@renewed62504 жыл бұрын
@@tasfiatanzila I love that out of all of that...that is what you got out of it. To clarify the reason why I have a slash there (easily cleared up by simply reading up on Ba'athism) is the fact that the doctrine explicitly cements together "anti Jew" and "pro Arab". But hey...why read or think, when you can take a quick troll moment and try to be PC without a second thought?
@renewed62504 жыл бұрын
@Anima L Yes that is true. Depending on what being 'pro' means in the ideology. Again...it says very plainly that the two are meshed in the ideology. And, I already had to underline that for another person. And, this should be known about the Ba'athism party. Simply read the reply I gave the other person as if it was addressed to you.
@renewed62504 жыл бұрын
@Anima L oh boy. I need not be gauged. Gauge the statement, not the person. Ba'athism is inspired by Nazi party. If you don't know that I am sorry. Similarly, if you don't know that "if a thief is caught by a thief, they are still a thief" is a fact, to construe otherwise is a fallacy, I can't help you much there either. Yes, most religions, especially monotheisms, are riddled with racism and slavery. This simply does not detract from the antisemitism BUILT IN the Ba'ath party ideology. I am blown away by the level to which people can miss a point, or, be unwilling to read thoroughly.
@renewed62504 жыл бұрын
@Anima L Wow. 1 - nothing I stated "blocks or prevents" (or has anything to do with) criticism of Israel 2 - the only "mental gymnastics" happening here is when someone says "Ba'ath party is bad, yadda yadda" someone thinks a reasonable reply to that is "hey, why cant israel be criticized?" Yes of course it can, it is as much a country of domination by religion as saudi arabia. Has NOTHING to do with what was being stated however. 3 - "you cant govern..." who are you to claim that? And yes democracy is human inevitability. 4 - anyone who can say "some countries need fascist dictators" without laughing cant see the irony of their own stupidity 5 - If you think fascist dictatorship "prevents" civil wars I guess my advice to you is READ more. Books are so cheap these days.
