As a Scientist/Nerd, I used to be really judgmental of the "Jocks"/Meatheads and thought they were "Primitive Savages" who were duped by the politicans. This podcast has really opened my mind to how ignorant, and just blatantly wrong I was. I now have incredible admiration and respect for all Military personnel. After all the stories I've heard of you describing the enemy, It really made me realize how fucking lucky and spoiled I was to live in a land of Freedom and resent the people who provide me that. I'm truly grateful for these incredible men and woman who take it on them risking life and limb to protect ungrateful turds like me. I've been humbled and even been inspired by it to reach new goals. It's a whole new motivation for me. I used to get mad and angry at problems I wouldn't understand. Now every struggle is GOOD. It gives me a better chance to improve so that the next time I can annihilate the problem, and the "discipline insurgents" with precision, and alacrity.

There's something besides education that marks someone as being smart. Being an open mind. Your post here tells me you're pretty smart. I don't have the kind of education that you most likely have. That is a guess on my part. I do have a very broad range of Interest and can converse intelligently on many of them. I also try to keep an open mind. You can be thrown buckets upon bucket mud which is a lot I call either garbage information or improperly interpreted information or just bad information. I have learned that if you sift through it with a little effort once in awhile you find a nice little Raw diamond that little nugget can fit a whole in a whole different thought process or idea. I also found that you can get some really good truths from the most outrageous and absurd sources. But if you don't go through the process of listening or waiting through the mud you'll never find them. It is okay to challenge what you believe to be true. If it is the actual truth it will with stand the challenge. If not then you have redefined the truth or can search for the truth. Always remember the truth is not the only goal oh, it's the journey to get there that counts just as much.

When I started HS in 1976 (Catholic HS), they had just ended their Latin and French program and religion and philosophy were watered down. We had no thread either. I didn’t go to college until 8 years after I graduated. The thread didn’t appear until later in life after studying ‘critical thinking’ and learned to apply it. But it was LIFE that really teaches you. Some people live and die without ever even realizing there is a thread. Thank GOD you found it.

Respect both of you for your contributions to leadership (Jocko) and understanding of the Palestine/Israel (Darryl). Re; the cruelty of the Iraqi regime: My Iranian partner volunteered as an ambulance driver at 15 during the Iran-Iraq war, but also played a more logistics role in assisting fighter soldiers. Every Iranian soldier had a suicide pill in their kits, because the Iraqis would tie captured Iranian soldiers legs to two different tanks and split their bodies apart. His regiment's commander was such a brilliant young career soldier, that Saddam Hussein once declared he could "start world war three" if Iraq had just one officer as capable as him. The commander and my partners regiment was constantly overachieving, and getting in trouble with the Iranian generals as a result. It appeared that Khomeini was just using up thousands of young men, to distract them from socio-political concerns, and the commander complained that he could of finished the war in one week if he had been given free reign by the generals (they once captured Iraqi Oil fields- but got in trouble because they hadn't been 'asked to".). The officer was eventually assassinated at the behest of the Iranian high ups (officially by crossfire), and my partner spent two months in a military prison when he turned 18, because he refused to fight as a regular soldier with a gun for what he now realised was a "fake war". US Generals at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis toyed with gunning down a planeload of US College students to pin it on Cubans in order to justify an invasion of Cuba, horrifying JF Kennedy. I am surprised you are dismissing out of hand the possibility that the troubled and possibly psychopathic Prime Minister Netanyahu and his coterie would balk at sacrificing 1,400 of their own people for a political mandate to smash Hamas and Gaza. www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2020-04-23/ty-article/.premium/narcissistic-authoritarian-hesitant-alarmist-netanyahu-of-1999-is-back/0000017f-f4c5-ddde-abff-fce5476c0000

Heavy, pitch dark, and sobering but necessary to hear for anyone, and certainly every humanitarian who values the trinity of Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as well as Americans who don’t value their country and its many graces. The methods of mankind’s unspeakable brutality exhibited in the Middle East spoken of here, largely unknown about in the west, make the killing by gas chamber or being shot, (WWII) look like child’s play in comparison. The chilling difference perhaps was the “systematic extermination” of peoples. Understanding history, all of it, is vital to our continued survival. Archangels stand with those who dare speak the Truth, and those who dare not to. Thank you for your ongoing service to mankind.

Frontline on PBS then contextualized the known reporting into some outstanding 2 hour long documentaries that dig into the origins of ISIS, the sectarian violence from neighborhood to neighborhood that compounded. There are several of them but here's a more recent one from 2016: www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/the-secret-history-of-isis/

Why? I'm sure they are still there. I can't help but feel that if I were them I'd lay back and wait for all of the political turmoil to continue to weaken the enemy.
