The part where the gate guards stopped them when he was wounded reminds me of my time in Baghdad. We got hit bad with an ied. Most of my platoon was wounded. Just me and a few other guys were completely unwounded. We're hauling ass through fob Falcon to the brigade aid station and a major stops us for exceeding the fob speed limit. My squad leader straight let him have it. He was wounded through the throat himself and he was screaming to get f*ck out of our way 🙌

Thank you. This was a powerful podcast. I did 3 tours in Iraq with the 1rst Cav as a Cavalry Scout. A lot of what he said hit home in a big way. I lost a lot of friends, had friends maimed for life and barely made it alive myself. Important lessons learned and inspiring

This one is relatable in many ways. I pissed away a lot of good years with alcohol after the military that I can't get back. I've been on a better path the past few years and stories like this are a good reminder to not let your guard down.

2:18:35 Mental game changer. "How did I do that?... No amount of self gratification could carry me through it. My own ego was not enough..." His respect for someone ELSE drove him to a major accomplishment of his own that no one else could claim. The importance I see in that is the self awareness it takes to know that not everyone can just hype themselves up. Not everyone is driven by or for themselves. That's not how individuality works.

When I first started listening to jocko I didn't really get it and maybe I really never will really get it. All of my good friends are veterans or long time hillbilly hunters and outdoors people. I volunteered for service in the airforce and navy because I had a dream of being a fighter pilot. Unfortunately I was rejected for service because of getting caught with 1/2 a joint of weed as a teenager. I get inspiration from this podcast and I'm starting to get after it more and more even at age 56. Keep up the good work.

Only in America do citizens Hyphenate their own nationality, which diminishes their own identity as Americans; by using an ethnonym. There is no such thing as a *"__[insert race]__-American"*. Anyone who conflates the terms ethnicity and Nationality; clearly doesn't know by contrast, how America is one of the most diverse and least racist countries in the world, because the whole world flocks here in hopes of becoming Americans. ps. The best way to take the wind out of a racist's sails, is asking them "What does an American look like?"
@shelbyspeaks3287
@shelbyspeaks3287 Жыл бұрын
@@Tacit_Tern let's not get *too* preachy here, if there's a giant land mass that's bigger than most of europe, has english as the main language and has a culture of *aggressively accepting immigrants and their problems to fault* than logically yes, you (for better of for worse) would experience a lot of people "flocking" to your country. second, america IS very identitarian even if it's not "racist", the whole "people prefixing their american identities with "black" "white" "asian" is a reflection of the very materialistic concepts we impose everyday towards other things: "what you are" & "how you look" matters more than "who you are" & "how you think" so it ends up creating these social markers leading to race, gender, ethnicity etc. politics.

I get so much from hearing what our soldiers have had to experience over the last 20 years. The life and death they have had to see everyday while on deployment makes me enjoy life and people in in this country more. We only have so much time on this planet. Stop letting the little things ruin your day. We are very fortunate to be Americans. Live your life.

Wtf is a genuine American? I’d seriously like to know. You can appreciate someone without bootlicking the profession/lifestyle they happen to be a part of. Conflating “Americanness” with cops & soldiers is as flawed a mindset as it gets. Jocko and this dude are no more American than countless others from different walks of life, including ppl who drastically differ from them both ideologically and politically.
