I'm 39 years old, and I'm in a different cave. I'm in a career I don't enjoy, but have felt trapped because my trade is enough to provide for my family, but I feel like the world is passing me by. But I decided I don't need to feel trapped. I started watching your videos and saw a recruiter. I went from a couch potato at 199 lbs to 170 lbs and now running 1.5 miles in 15 minutes. I have had 3 medical diagnoses that I am going through the process of getting waivers for. If you have been thinking about joining the military and haven't, the only thing holding you back is you. Hopefully the next time I comment on one of your videos will be when I am about to go to MEPS. Love your content, it is so informative and motivating.

Hey Phillip. I'm also in the process of joining the Air Force for active duty. My recruiter told me that with all the waiver stuff his boss has to look over, I might not even be given a choice of what job I want and I may even be permanently disqualified altogether. Is it the same for you? I actually turned in my enlistment packet online in late November and am still waiting for my recruiter's boss to look over my papers. 1/16/2024.

I'm graduating in May with a college degree and joining the Air Force for several reasons, including family issues and job security. The job market is really tough right now, with many jobs requiring a minimum of 3+ years of experience. If you are 21 like me, struggling to find a job, start your life, and get away from a toxic environment, I would consider the Air Force. I had the privilege to stay at home with my parents and get a college education, for which I am thankful, even though I have been paying with my mental health. At least now I know what I really want to do. At 17 and 18, a lot of us don't know what to do. A part of me always wanted to join the military, so that's how I ended up making the decision. But if you are 17 or 18 and you can't go to college for whatever reason, consider the military. It can help you stay out of trouble and avoid wasting time. Don't be afraid to make a decision. Staying in your comfort zone is your biggest enemy. Don't do it. Make a decision and stick to it. Please, guys, take the leap and move forward with confidence.
@davidanunez26 ай бұрын
I wholeheartedly concur. I got my masters last May and got nothing out of it (sadly). The job market was a depressing mess to enter after graduating. After a year of basically wasting away, I am now planning on enlisting to the Air Force. I’ve been comfortable for too long, and though I am grateful for my room and family. I think taking this leap to the skies is just what I need.

I am 21-year-old college student, and I am broke. I got an associate's degree from a community college, so I could enlist as an e-3, but I cannot enlist as an e-4 or become an officer, as I am still working on my bachelor's degree. I am tempted to enlist now because I am so tired of struggling financially and I desperately need work experience. I am on an academic scholarship, so I cannot afford to get a job while in school, so even when I get my degree, employers expect everyone to have 2-3 years of experience, so it would be very difficult to get a job. The military seems like a good place to get financial security, and a solid place to develop skills. I do not know which branch I want to go in, but I am going to talk to recruiters soon. I'll decide what branch I want to go to off of which MOS I think I can get.

I've suffered a lot of trauma in my childhood in addition to having adhd and being on the autism spectrum. I hate bringing up oppression olympics but I had to go through so much just so I could function at a minimum wage job. Its disheartening to fail over and over and never see your work come to fruition. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm afraid of failure and I'm afraid I won't survive in a military environment. @@yingyang7448 The lesson I’d pass on is to go in with the job you want guaranteed in writing. Also the base of preference if that’s an issue for you. I went in “Open” and loved the service but hated the job. I submitted 13 cross training applications because no one explained to be when I first went in the difference between a first termed and career airman. First termed have the opportunity to cross train a lot easier than if you reenlist and then try it. Also, pick a job that can be plugged in anywhere, don’t get too specific. From a young age, I was proud to be an Air Force brat. From the time I was five, I could recite the Wild Blue Yonder song in its entirety. I remember being in the front row of the auditorium, maybe 8 or 9 years old, and seeing my mom up on the stage, all these people in respectful silence and then clapping in deafening applause for her. I didn't really understand what was happening or the importance of it at the time, but I knew I was proud of her. That that was MY MOM! I knew that whatever I became in life as I got older, I wanted to be like her. She's my role model. My mom is still in the service while my dad is retired. My step-dad is a retired Marine. Two of my older brothers just recently joined the Air Force. They had full college educations with Bachelor's but felt lost in life--then the Air Force gave them direction and they're so happy with where they are now. These people are role models for me. They seem larger than life but are people at the same time. I've laughed and cried with them and love them more than anything. Just being related to them makes me proud. Thank you to all former and current service members in every branch of the military. Everything you do and have done is extraordinary. You truly are the greatest of our wonderful country.

I live in the middle of nowhere in a town with only 1000 people. I want to get out and be challenged, have my world views tested, and grow as a person. This video was honestly so encouraging to me because I've been debating enlisting as an active duty airman for about 5 months now. I'm no longer scared that the airforce "isn't for me" because I would rather enlist and KNOW if it is or is not, than to be wondering for the rest of my life and wandering aimlessly.

Hey, Jody. I've watched a lot of your videos in a fairly non-linear order and have gathered a lot of inspiration from then in my endeavors in joining. Im from a small town and fit the boot of the communities you're describing. My little brother joined the army, and it kind of woke me up in a sense, and i wasn't going to let him go to the service alone. I can't wait to see where this path takes me, and I hope to see you keep doing what you're doing as well.

You’re so right. This is similar to what I’ve got going on in my life. One day dragging the tweed I thought to myself that there’s no way that this is what life sums up to or what I’m meant to be. Immediately I stopped hanging with friends who didn’t serve a better version of me, cut out the drugs and partying, and currently in the process of enlisting into the army and getting a medical waiver for mental health. I’m working on getting a physically fit (156 lbs, 19.5% BF, down from ~180 and 23%+ BF) and becoming the person I truly want to be. The example of the cave is such a great way to paint the picture for how small I thought life was, compared to how big and vast the world really is. For anyone out there on the fence or even willing to listen, take what Jody says and challenge yourself to look past the “reality” you currently reside in. There’s more, don’t sell yourself short. Become something great, go out and explore outside of your “cave.” Peace and love family ❤

Small town stuff is depressing for kids; there is nothing for them to do! I graduated at 16 and immediately went to college for Computer Science, only to feel less accomplished than I planned on being. Now, at 18, I see that the Air Force has so many upsides, like stability, income, a community, and all the stuff I could never find anywhere else. Lately I have come to the realization that nobody will make the hard decisions for me and that I decide what my future will be - you can live your life in the cave, or you can see what the outside world has to offer.

that video of the caveman in the chains reminds me of how my life was when I was younger smoking, fornicating, addicted to video games and a rejected kid trying to fit in with a group just doing bad things before I gave my life to Jesus Christ because there was a desire to change in my heart to change “there has to be more to life than this” when I gave my life to him, I felt free and joy and I started losing old friends because they didn’t understand it. Some people like the chains and others not ready to let them go. I’m 26 now trying to join the air force and grateful to have this opportunity.
