jokes aside I really love the heart and passion Joe's got for not only 8½ but the art of cinema and its creation. the way he's describing all these movies is so honest and I'm like, "yeah, you've kinda nailed it really." this is a joyous video. Just got done watching The Pacific and wanted to say what a great job you all did on that. I don’t want to call it a show because that would seem disrespectful. The scene where you ordered a strike on the hut and repelled a charge was really well done. The scene with the dying Japanese woman was incredible acting.

Joooe Portrait of a Lady on Fire so deserves that spot!! It's a masterful take on the relation between the viewer and the subject - that's what film is all about! And it also succeeds in portraying female sexuality without it being objectifying nor having the tacky conclusion "man=bad"; because it /leans into/ the complexity of power dynamics. Soooooo it is a great take on how to subvert the male gaze- the fact that it landed above Rear Window is astonishing from a feminist film perspective! and I can go on but I really didn't start writing this to criticize you hahaha I just love that movie so much for what it does from an aesthetic point of view Great video, I guess I'll watch 8 1/2 to see if I regret writing this! 😅

I'm not a cinephile or anything like that, but I understand where he's coming from. Joe, being an actor, loves these kinds of films because he's studied them, he has experience in the field. I myself am more into music, so that's what I can relate to. For example, I enjoy the work of Frank Zappa. Most people will not, because his approach to songs and albums was completely out of the ordinary. He composed these complex instrumental pieces and rock operas, and most of the time, his lyrics were complete satire. However, someone who is a musician will appreciate it, because it's an experience rather than just a song. They will appreciate the complexity, because they play the music instead of just listening. I suppose it's the same way with film. The more you act in different movies, the more you begin to appreciate the masterpieces that maybe aren't as accessible to the average viewer.
