My grandpa 20 in 1955, looked ancient, partly from early male pattern baldness (no treatments then). My aunt, a few years younger than Biden looked 30 at age 20 in 1966. Different styles, diet, no sun block, other factors (which others correctly lay out in more detail below-I didn’t want to get too long winded lol) tended to age people more than modern day.

I posted most of this as a comment but I'll put it here. People "looked older" because the hormonal and mental profile of that period was better than today. We're supposed to have more testosterone, but we don't. Everyone looks like a baby today. Don't confuse having more testosterone with being old. In any case, testosterone actually lowers with age. Older generations actually aged slower, and which is why they tend to look similar in age to their sons and younger family members. It's funny: first they look older (because of testosterone and other hormones) and then they stay like that for a few decades or more, barely aging. This was the case for Biden by the way. I've seen videos of him in his late 50s where he looks just like this here, but with more lightish brown hair.

He has to work with congress, and congress almost never approves due to bundling and party politics. That's our system. It's good because it prevents a president from ruling like an autocrat. You're never going to have the perfect representative. Voting is a little bit like snake handling while playing hot potato, hoping the snake doesn't bite you and bites the other dude instead. To a degree I think people have unrealistic expectations of politicians and don't hold the wider system more accountable including both major corporations and the citizen body. We have crappy a representatives because we put them there. If we want better representatives we have to work on having a more assertive citizen body capable of holding power accountable through the systems which have been set up to allow us to do so. Everybody's talking about how he looked and not what he was saying. And how nothing has changed in what he was saying since then. In fact, the problem with bureaucrats, lobbyists, etc. has only gotten worse.
