Joe Biden Tariffs Against China Just Backfired on the US Economy!

Joe Biden has just passed numerous tariffs against China. But these tariffs will not help America close the manufacturing gap with China, nor will it stop China's rise. The real loser in this entire trade war is the American consumer who will pay more for the products they need. In today's video we break down the new tariffs against China, the myth of overcapacity and how the US is facing an inconsistency problem.

The reliance on tariffs is an admission that the US has already lost. We spent 30 or 40 years dismantling our industries. Americans want to work in real estate or legal professions, they have no interest in making great products people want to buy.
@markstuckey6225

You are exactly right. And USA has rested on its laurels continual saying it's the "greatest country in the world" instead of proving it. It has almost made it impossible to get a good, useful education so, of course, it lacks a skilled workforce. Sad to see all these great centres of industry dead (Pennsylvania and Cleveland steels as well as Sheffield in the UK). It all started with Reagan and Thatcher. USA now needs to live in partnership with China not in opposition (USA can only lose).

How else do you deal with a bad actor who steals IP, subsidises industry with tax money (instead of dealing with Tofu Dregs high rises and crumbling infrastructure, dams that fail and kill thousands) and engages in price dumping? In a "fair" trade environment tariffs are bad, China does not trade fairly and do not compete openly.
@markstuckey6225
@markstuckey6225 22 күн бұрын
@@snarlz But USA doesn't either. It survives only because USD is the default currency of trade. It has crumbling infra/superstructure, USA loans have always had huge string attached designed to send borrower states into vassalage. There are very few states that are worse actors than USA. It is more loathed/feared than any other country, yet considers itself "a shining city on a hill".
@snarlz
@snarlz 22 күн бұрын
@@markstuckey6225 China's infrastructure is in way worse shape that US. They have crumbling dams, regular floods, tofu dregs high-rises that literally have cracks running down multiple floors, buckling bridges, failing high speed rail, and the agricultural sector is on chaos, even if it wasn't they are dependant on imported fertilizer and even imported food... The financial sector is in chaos thanks to the real estate bubble they've built, which makes the American real estate bubble look like a fizz in a glass of coke. And let's not get started on the shadow banking system. Yes we do benefit from being the default trading currency, but that is because we do not engage in currency manipulation, and maintain a stable value on that currency. Why on Earth would another economic power want to peg their economy on any other currency? The Euro is not as stable, certainly not Chinese currency or Iranian or Brazilian or anybody else... Until there's a viable alternative, I don't see the dollars hedge money for trade deteriorating at all. And even if it wasn't, we have the most natural resources in the world, we can feed our population and in fact our net food exporter, in fact, we also export carbon fuel, we're still the largest economy on the world... Even without the Petro dollar or the dollar being used so much in trade. With several countries in South America recently announcing that they are changing their local currency to the American dollar, it seems like the dollar is expanding, not contracting. Don't you think? I mean? Do you follow that in world news at all?

The financial sector facing real estate implosion, Tofu Dregs, "shadow banks" and a tax system based on land sales... This is a maelstrom of their own making. They claim the West provokes them, but they are trying to claim a massive amount of territory belonging to other sovereign nations in the Southern Seas. Why did the Chinese cars improve so much within a few years? Competition. China has significantly more car manufacturers than the US, resulting in better products and lower prices for the consumers. If you are an American who has never been to China, you really have to go visit, then you'll see just how far behind the US auto industry is. The US politicians and mostly puppets for the big corporations and they help them monopolized the market, forcing Americans to pay a premium for just about everything! That's why it's so hard to save money in the US. Many Americans can never retire, they'll work as a slave for the corporations until they are dead, disabled, or fired.

You can't impose tariffs and sanctions on giants like China and Russia without experiencing negative repercussions yourself. This will lead to other developing countries becoming more attractive for business because they maintain regular trading relationships with both sides. Additionally, you can't continue to pressure Europe and other regions into forced purchasing US products indefinitely.

Letting go is never winning it is accepting death. I fully understand why my government is behaving (well, misbehaving) the way it is. Remember: the US dollar is currently the world reserve currency and the USA has been abusing the entire world with this system. If the US stops being the dominant power and China takes the top why the heck wouldn't China's currency, or a new BRICs currency be used in a global trade system? The USA will decline so quickly, so steeply it will make the fall of the USSR look pretty.

The sinking of the US is due to its believing in NOTHING. A form of a niellist. It never decided what it wanted to "BE". The "creepy uncle Sam" gig no longer works as he is just a "creepy old man" that goes out to do harm. "The Nothing". Never Ending Story. They need a new "image" and need to clean up their "HEAD". Victoria Nulan, Janet Yellen and Carmela Harris are NOT exactly "Helen of Troy". And if they ARE....well. There in lies the problem... And back in the day, Cheryl Teigs" used to be the "gold standard".

@@Ziegfried82 The problem with you guys is you have always assumed that the next dominant power will behave like you guys. This is why your government is so full of insecurity. The US has not understood that China has been getting better just by improving themselves and lifting everyone out of poverty, not just through competition. Everyone deserves to lead a better life. The world is also becoming multi-polar. Letting go does not mean US losing and China winning, it just means WIN-WIN. China will get better, but the US will also get better. This is better for the world. The more the US fights, the more it is aligned to the path of losing.

The 2 real reasons US doesn't manufacure: Cost of labor and taxes. It's that simple. I was part of a team at HP that moved manufacturing out of the US. I hated seeing these jobs go. But to compete, we had to get away from high minimum wages and high tax rates in the US.

Just allowing China to make vehicles in the US wouldn’t work. Better to just let local manufacturers have a hay day until that system collapses. It can’t go on forever that Americans pay 2x or 3x as much for vehicles than the rest of the world. Perhaps more Americans will have to pull the plug and move to countries that are much more livable like Guatemala, Panama and Cuba.

@@Basie-o that’s the whole point: why would we need 500 hp when we drive up to 80mph every day and only tow a few times a year? US car makers have built their entire marketing strategy around performance. They made sure performance is the only thing customers think about.

The United States is isolating itself from the rest of the world by imposing tariffs on all Chinese products because the rest of the world will be full of Chinese cheap and good-quality products except the US. The high cost of not-that-good products in the US will affect the overall economic development of the country. This could lead to the US lagging behind the development of the rest of the world.

The USA became rich because of protectionism, which was brought about by Alexander Hamilton. Government assistance to industry is essential for development. The trouble with capitalist in the USA is that they can make more money manufacturing elsewhere. No loyalty to your own country.

Instead of doing the sensible thing and collaborating with China, like Russia does which benefits both sides - they do the exact opposite that only hurts the states. When you collaborate, both parties benefit. USA could provide raw materials (which is what Russia does in their treaty) and china refines and manufactures. In result you get better deals, cheaper goods and both sides win, consumers win. But no, it's all political posturing...

Sadly it's not just political posturing - the war in Ukraine is designed to weaken Russia and by association China. Hundreds of thousands of people have died Russia has become more reliant on China and America is having to pump billions of dollars of American tax payers money into Ukraine. Imagine what could have been achieved if instead of funding a disastrous war in another country that money had been spent in America upgrading it's infrastructure.
