So....was Eric Clapton just that much better than everyone at that time (except Hendrix)? I've heard 103 guitarists play this version of Crossroads and NO ONE sounds anywhere near as clear and confident as Clapton sounded in 67/68. All these guys are hero worshipping Clapton and Hendrix to obsession....for decades! Imagine what Bonamassa could do if he found his OWN NOTES!. Imagine how great SRV could have been if he found his OWN NOTES. Both phenomenal players without question but they just played the same LICKS night after night. Clapton was the same but his phrasing was far superior to with if these guys...again Hendrix is miles above them all to ME because he mostly played melodies not LICKS. INNOVATION NOT IMITATION IS THE TRUE MARK OF GENIUS.
@willgo78982 жыл бұрын
... agree that JB does not show genius here. I respect his appreciation and love for the music, instruments, amps. I think he's found a workable/profitable niche that allows him to do what he wants. I'm not familiar with his original stuff, but wouldn't be surprised if his creative side surfaces at some point. Bottom line for me is he's a great player, decent singer, excellent song selector, knowledgeable and thoughtful performer who is fun to watch and listen to
@FramrodLiggins2 жыл бұрын
@@willgo7898 I would agree with all of that except the last part. To ME... It's not fun listening to sped up re- creations of the masters. As much as I appreciate their skill...I'd rather listen to Clapton, Hendrix or Albert King than listen to JB or SRV copy them. That's ME..fair play to other opinions though.
@bbb89972 жыл бұрын
I agree, sounds like a 3rd rate Lynyrd Skynyrd meets cream version, way too fast, bonomassa needs to develop his own licks, saw him live in savannah ga around 2008 & after 90 mins, I just wanted him to quit playing. just like derek trucks, a really nice guy, but bores me to tears.at least he opened with Rory Gallagher's cradle rock & all down hill from there. the older he gets, the more of a copy cat guitarist he becomes.another member of the flavor of the month club. at least Warren Haynes makes it interesting & listenable

Joe is great but he butchered the shit out of this song, solo wise. I won the GC clapton crossroads contest years ago. It was a last minute thing forced on me by my friends. Did not rehearse it for one second while all the other contestants were playing his solos note for note. I won! And just made up the entire thing on the spot. That said Joe has gotten most of his playing expertise from "Eric Johnson" as you can hear it quite easily throughout his playing. Why does he not give Eric credit ever??? Strange.
