I am really glad that someone has recognised what a tremendous blues track this is. So much dynamics, compositional style and guitar flavouring. My favourite Zep blues tune. As Joe has said himself, Page is the hardest to cover of all the British blues greats (and they are all greats) but Pagey has a dynamic that no one else does, it's weird but so flavoursome. Great job Joe and so glad you recognise this guitarist for the uniqueness Jimmy has.

Spot on!! Presence is a terrific blues based album. It's one of my favorite albums for me. Only behind Physical Graffiti and maybe LZ one. This song in particular is one of Pages finest. This and "Since I've been Loving You". Or Travelling Riverside Blues, the Rover, or Custard Pie. It was high praise for Joe to say that about Pages playing, just because there were so many greats. Some say he was a little sloppy but I think he just always played things differently and never played a song the same way twice in concert.

I grew up with “LED Zeppelin was #1 , and everyone else was way way out in some other universe. It’s plain to see that Joe has taken what the greats have put down and took it to the next level. Nothing to argue about, that’s just the way it is. After Bonham died they could rarely get Jimmy Page to take the stage. Thank you Lord for Joe a great gift to us electric guitar people ! 200+ shows a year. Blues cruises , multiple bands, he shows up and gigs with friends on his days off, seriously. 50 albums by 46 years old, actually 47 now. Happy Birthday 🎉Joe👍🙏🔥🎶🎉⚡️🎸

Comparing Joe to Jimmy Page is apples to oranges. They are two completely different stories. Both have the essence of greatness. To say that Joe is no Jimmy Page is accurate, and Jimmy Page is no Joe Bonamassa. I am highly doubtful that either of these musicians are striving to be anything other than what they are, and the very best they can be at that.

I also agree. Tea For One is one of my fav Zep tunes, and Joe B crushes it. He's NOT Page, but Page isn't him either. The only edge here is that Page n Plant came up with this, but you could do the same for his "Just Got Paid"......and then let's go on about his stuff, like, oh I dunno...."Sloe Gin"?? Both are fantastic musicians, let them be on their own stage!!

Eric Ellquist I agree you can’t compare ! let me say Bonnamassa is truly a incredible guitarist and his ability Is beyond doubt but there’s just something missing to me with this version there’s an instinctive playing about Page which whilst not maybe technically makes him to me the the greatest blues player his ability to feel the spaces between notes sets him apart

@Gator Henry Bah, rank superstition... They said the same thing about Robert Johnson, 'cause they couldn't understand greatness at that level. Either you've got it or you haven't, after that it's all about what you do with it. Robert Johnson was a genius. Period.

I heard that Joe Bonamassa said in an interview that Jimmy Page plays a lot of “slur” notes that make his sound uniquely his own, and that he wouldn’t even attempt to replicate it. It was a great compliment to Jimmy’s playing, by acknowledging what critics of him had always called “Sloppy”. Joe Bonamassa being a great player himself understood Page’s brilliance. It was one of my favorite guitarists paying a huge compliment to my all time favorite. Joe Bonamassa is a class act.
@Tyrell_Corp2019
@Tyrell_Corp2019 Жыл бұрын
I'm a guitarist and agree 1000%. Page's guitar vocabulary is from another era where slurring, scraping, bending, shaking, sliding, raking, popping notes (most of it with hybrid picking employing both pick and fingers) was how it was done. I grew up on that music and when I hear Jimmy doing it, I'm floored by the feeling. After EVH, the right hand became more about 'economy' picking which has a special way of hitting notes to maximize each note individually. Most of it is really running arpeggios. Frankly, it all sounds the same to me. I'll take Page's technique over all of them. ✌

Such an overlooked blues masterpiece. I'm a Jimmy fan, but that said Joe is magnificent and he puts his stamp on it, and does the most important thing with this particular song; captures that incredible sad but beautiful mood that Jimmy originally created.

@@fxsteen There is no bigger fan of Jimmy Page than me. He's been my favorite since 1973 when I was 10. Saying that, he hasn't done shit for some time. Always talks about putting a band together, but never does. He seems more intent on remastering remasters. Plant and Jones always play, Page not so much. Robert said a few years back (paraphrasing), I trust Jimmy to have total control over the Zep catalog, what I'd really like to see is Jimmy playing, because he's a brilliant player.

What makes this performance so special and sound so good, is the technical end of the sound controls that weren't available back when it was originally done by Led Zeppelin. I would love to hear both musicians play together Bonamassa and Page together, with Plant doing the vocals, of course there is still that visual of Plant standing on the stage. All masters at their craft . And remember Zeppelin had that supernatural force behind them, that little touch of Magic that propelled them into Stardom.

OH MAN OH MAN, this one is just fantastic. Just finished about a dozen replays and feel a dozen more coming on!! Hell, I may be here for the same 24 hours our man Joe is playing about. I just can't believe what these guys did with this song, best earwig, (ear mole, or whatever it is when you get a song stuck in your head for days at a time) I've ever experienced. And Doug, holy cow dude, talk about soulful, I feel your pain man!! And to all those who must compare this to something or someone else, would you all please do me a favor and STFU, seriously this thing stands on it's own just fine and dandy. Listen and enjoy, or simply go elsewhere and talk your Joe VS. Everyone over there.

You can't compare Joe Bonamassa to Jimmy Page,Beck,or anyone else!!! He is in a league of his own!

In a few years some else will take this a little further than Bonamassa. Beck, Page, Clapton,Hendrix were all great back then for those times. Way ahead for those times. Ask Bonamassa who were his influences ! Most if, or not all his guitars licks & solos are from all those legends. He just added his own stuff & personal experiences to them. I don't think your a musician or play any musical instruments because they would all say the same. Bonamassa is great ! I saw him twice live & was amazing. You know That "Tea for 1" is from Led Zeppelin

The members of the group you name each have great name recognition but the playing of each differs sharply from each of the others and makes comparisons difficult. If you are familiar with Gary Moore, you'll more similarity between he and JB than the others. If you're into authentic, gritty blues, I'd check out more of SRV's stuff, particularly songs like Change It, I'm Leavin You, or the El Mocambo versions of Texas Flood or Little Wing. Terry Kath, whom I saw at the Fillmore with Chicago Transit in '69 offers something none of these gentlemen had, and could do anything Hendrix could at twice the speed, yet doesn't even garner a top 100 slot on the infamous Rolling Stoned list. There's a reason why Jimi thought Terry was better....

I see the comment is 4 years old . . So probably no point in commenting.. but I couldn’t bite my tongue . Not gonna knock joe . He’s a great guitar player . Has great technical ability . But to say he’s in a league of his own above page is laughable . Pages contributions to music in general, and especially the guitar just on the first zeppelin album alone completely buries and overshadows anything and everything bonamassa has ever done . Page is the one that’s in a league of his own . Having said that .. I think bonamassa did a great cover of this song . Overplayed a touch like he usually does .. but still a good cover none the less . When page plays it , he says a lot more with a lot fewer notes .

As much as JB played out of his mind here, he channels too much Eric Johnson for me....his music just feels forced to me. The guy can flat out play.....but he needs to quit trying to prove to the world he can play and play actually good music. This cover is the first time I have heard JB make you feel what he is playing.

Ha. I wouldn't say everything he does is amazing. Little fan boy are we? He is a talented freak no doubt. But he gets too caught up with showing off as a guitar player that his music suffers. I have mad respect for him as a guitar player, but not as a musician. There are alot of great guitar players who wrote and played bad songs. JB isn't the first. Sometimes it is about the notes you don't play and the space between the notes you do play that makes the music great. Many jazz artist went through this same conundrum in the 50's & 60's. The ones who are most regarded figured it out.

Never said he wasn't talented - actually said the opposite several times. I just don't care for his music. I simply commented on this tune because it is the first time I have heard Joe play where he didn't let his playing get in the way of the music...Ironically it was a cover and he was emulating Jimmy Page's playing style. I am a musician and have a deep knowledge of music of many genres. I certainly do not know it all and do not profess to. But I do have my own opinion and like most, have my own prefrerences. If JB is your thing, cool beans. - Cheers
