Facts. Tbh, that's basically what a "40 year old" wants. .. and what the hell is so wrong about that! ..and it's not JUST that age group neither. People who GENUINELY love *Real Rap, want REAL RAP. I mean, that is a HUGE part of fkn hip-hop. The foundation of it. Push whatever sound you want, but don't just completely abandon the SOUL of hip-hop.. or do a lazy, half assed job at it while chasing what kids like. Be a man. Be a fkn leader! What we fail to realize is Drake has transcended being an “artist” he’s a corporation. He doesn’t approach music authentically anymore. He approaches it from the standpoint of what’s best for the relevance of the brand, and unfortunately it’s resulting in bad music, the same way corporations compromise their product when they get political and woke

And if there truth to your theory, then I feel comfortable in saying that nobody wants that…he’s has set a certain standard and expectation with his audience and fan base…if your just putting out “records” just to put out “records” than you can keep that…a big issue with what is wrong with the industry specifically the genre, this shit is going down the drain and a lot of y’all can’t even see it…

If you have to listen to an album 3 plus times to sonically enjoy it then you are now forcing and convincing yourself to like it. I will never have to listen to Thriller, TPAB or the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill multiple times to tell myself the sound and composition is A1. You only need to constantly revisit a body of work to thoroughly dissect the lyrics or find another underlying theme within the project.

The problem is people who should naturally mature are regressing. That’s what this is about. You can hang around and be inspired by younger artists for sure, but you’re not to become them especially when you’ve already carved out your own lane.

Joe was right on the nose with his description. The man is almost 40 and has been making music with similar themes for the past 15 years. At some point people were gonna notice, I just think it’s happening so fast it’s jarring to take in. But I’ve heard diehard fans of his give this exact take more now than any of his other releases. Folks are just getting tired of it and honesty I’m shocked it took this long.

Think of Drake as like the iphone of rappers. He’s there for mass appeal. That’s why he keeps things vague and generic with the usual dominant statements and touches of luxury rap. This formula has worked for him and has helped him maintain so much success for such a long time to the point where you have to stop and ask yourself would it make sense to change up? If he matures and produces more “grown up” content he may lose all that appeal and success that he’s cultivated. There’s security in familiarity and I think Drake doesn’t have enough dimensions to his game to where he can reinvent himself as a conscious self-reflective political type rapper (lets say) and still keep that mass appeal. He’s an iphone lol

Him trying to appease and appeal to a wider audience is the reason why the quality of Drake's music is down. For All the Dogs is the epitome of mid. It was just "Ok." Decent. A bunch of B-side and throw aways put together and he called it an album. No, he doesn't have to make music for people "his age", he just needs to make good music. J. Cole and Kendrick are more interested in rapping and making quality music. Even JID, somebody who is closer to the age range that Drake is desperately trying to appeal to, is rapping better than him and making better sounding music.

I think the commentary at the end might have been taken out of context. The biggest problem with drake is laziness and pandering to the charts more than his creative impulses. This makes everything he makes feel like such a long drawn out fight against boredom. Bro lost me at this being drake’s fifth best album on his third listen. I don’t like calling out opinions but g are you serious. And I’m saying this as a person whose been a drake fan since comeback season. I’m not saying all the dogs is trash but this album was a chore to get thru. And when it comes to drake as a lyricist. I’m glad he’s taking a break. He’s sounds burnt out. Gun references, sending his guys to get opps. It’s was dope in the beginning but Drake sounds like he’s leaning on those bars. I do like that sonically he experiments but it make sense why slime you out and 8am in charlotte were the singles. Those were the two best songs on this album. And the Cole track is a great track but did anybody notice that drake let Cole kill him on that beat and decided to do a beat switch. Like he ran from the debate of whose better on that alone and it kills me cause drakes been on that type of production longer than cole. I’m the biggest drake fan. He’s gotten me thru the hardest time but I’m not gonna pretend that shits all good when it’s not. This is his “Kingdom Come” album. I guarantee that when he returns he’s going to be in a whole different mode and his pen is going to be way better.
