Green fields gets me choked up every year, this one especially. Fell asleep to his voice as a kid more days than i can recall. Joe deserves the best in his retirement. Can't get the right words together to express how much I appreciate him and wish him the best.

As a Yankees fan who loathes the Red Sox, I gotta say that I absolutely love Joe Castiglione - always have. The man is an absolute legend. For decades now, I often switch back & forth from the Yankees broadcast to the Sox broadcast just to hear Joe’s play by play. This year John Sterling retired and now Joe Castiglione. 2025 will not be the same. Hats off to you, Joe. Your dedication is an inspiration ⚾️ 🏟️

Same here. Tuned into Sox games on 1490 WGCH here in Greenwich, which for 20 seasons has been SWCT's home. When it's Yanks/Sox i tune to WFAN for the Yankees and GCH for the SOX and vice versa.

When I was 18 and started a baseball/Sox blog I named it "Can You Believe It?!" in honor of him. The voice of my childhood, my teenage years, my twenties, my summers... 31 now and I can't imagine the Sox without Joe Castigs. I'm so heartbroken and will miss the comfort and familiarity and joy of hearing his voice, and just hope he knows how cherished he truly is. Hope he enjoys retirement, and thank you so much Joe for all the incredible moments and memories.

He was always, always the ultimate professional, a voice which you can never replicate, and who to me personifies what a MLB baseball play by play should sound like. What makes it even more sad is the fact that all of the folks who know Joe believe he is the nicest person you could ever be fortunate enough to know and to be able to consider him a friend is what life is all about.

I was a Junior in High School when Joe got the job. I'm now in year 40 of my career. Not close to retiring yet, but I have plans on when/what it might look like. I've listened to Joe broadcast games from all over the world. I look forward to those games in the future when he'll be back for a bit, most likely an inning or two...and some rare full games. Thanks for making some of the coolest games cooler Joe! Hope you enjoy your retirement!

Thank you so much Joe. I am 14 years old and grew up listening to you call the games on the radio. You were the soundtrack of my summers, at least before we got MLB TV two years ago. I remember those hot summer nights with you singing me to sleep.

I go so far back w/ Joe. In the '80s, I was in New England radio. My early days as part timer (WEMJ, WKXL) I would engineer Sox games on affiliate stations, listening to Ken Coleman and Joe Castiglione. I moved to GA in the early 90s. When the MLB App came online, I was thrilled to be able to listen to Joe again. Moved to CA in 2022, havre enjoyed Joe's calls these past few years. Gonna be tough to be without him.

Joe began in 1983, I enjoyed one summer with him and Ken Coleman before I moved out west later that fall. Bear in mind that the man Joe took the place of, Jon Miller, was also a great broadcaster in his own right. Growing up with Coleman and Ned Martin as a kid, I am very sorry that I did not get to hear Joe's body of work beyond that one summer. The fact that he replaced Miller and then went on to a 42-year career speaks volumes for Joe. Instead of being a part of my mainstream Red Sox fandom, Joe became "the voice from back home". Best wishes for a long and happy retirement, and from one 40-year retiree to another, congratulations on your long and wonderful career and long life and happiness to you and your family.

I have never heard an announcer recapitulate a play like Castiglione. You need a quick incisive mind for that, and he had it and Red Sox fans were lucky to have him. (That said, I’ve always thought he didn’t have the right voice as an announcer, it’s a little squawky, not deep enough. But over time you had to appreciate how talented he was and how he brought you the listener into the game.) I love baseball and the Red Sox, and so many great memories will forever have Joe’s voice attached to them.

Joe was great. Too bad he ended with a mistake, saying the Red Sox and Rays tied for 3rd at 81-81. The Red Sox did finish at 81-81, but the Rays finished 4th at 80-81.

Douche comment. There will never be another Joe, who I listened to regularly with Ken Coleman during Carl Yastrzemski's last season--a time before my house had cable TV. But Will Fleming is a very worthy successor and deserves that lead announcer role.
