Your right it's a great line-up, to bad we don't have the outstanding Jim Gordon, he just passed. I saw Cocker with Jim Keltner, Jim Gordon and Leon Russell in the 1970's when Joe did the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. Now that was a concert that you would never forget.

Yep, as he did with so many other peoples' song, he made it his own. His version of Bird on a Wire is almost a Gospel song in it's musicality.

It's kinda cynical to call what JC did "covering" a song. Re-interpreting it and making a new, beautiful version of it is more like it. I can "cover" lots of songs. But I'm not being falsely modest when I say that my versions don't have the same effects on listeners, nor do they sell millions of copies. RIP Joe Cocker. A true legend.
