I saw Blind Faith July 13 1969 in Bridgeport Ct. Of course the perform the entire album. They were using Firebirds. Though the Free were billed as opener, Rory Gallagher (The Taste) opened, followed by Delaney and Bonnie then Bling Faith. Janis Joplin came and hung out at the concert. She had played the Yale Bowl in New Haven the night before. Great night.

That was a month before the Woodstock festival!!! To see Blind Faith, Free, Taste, Delaney and Bonnie had to be special!!! One of the early multi- band shows!!!

Does that mean that Free didn't perform?

I saw them at Madison Square Garden the same summer. I can remember Free and Delaney and Bonnie as the opening acts. The thing I also remember is that Blind Faith only played for about 35-40 minutes and we stormed the stage... don't think at the time they were getting along very well.

I was in Bridgeport in 1969 too. They blended so well it felt like they’d been together for years. Then they dissolved onto their own separate paths. What a great series of concerts in Bridgeport . The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and Blind Faith.

Same here.. If you are new to this song, it’s really worth DLing to hear. Not just for Stevie Winwood’s amazingly smooth vocal performance on it [Notice, no matter how high he sings, his voice never ever thins out!] This made him one of the most sought after vocalists of the times. Plus, DL to hear the ultra-complementary Nylon String lead going on constantly along with the rhythm, shown so nicely here, to the point where they practically blend as one, for they dove tail so well together, they enrich each other. So very worth a quick listen.

I wish some day I can play this song and make it sound something like a song.... Clapton loved watching Duane Allman play he would crawl under the stage just to get a closer look at Duane playing slide...he was a huge fan....so when they got together to form Derek and the Domino's....like blind faith only produced one album.... really liked that one....my mom taught me how to play Layla on piano....loved it

OK, so you said something that resonated with me. This song by Steve Winwood is really beautiful on so many levels. It bothers me when I hear people dismiss it as a "drunk song" because of the lyric. They are missing so much. For example, there are many tunes with a descending bass in the verse, but that technique here really touches a nerve. The chord changes over this along with some very beautiful suspensions really give the song its character. Add the dynamics and the vocal melody and you can see why the song is such a hit and sounds so good so many years later. Thank you, Angela, for the way you explain things. I see that you have a very high level of musicianship which shows through without your even trying. It's very admirable. Tony from Detroit

Thanks for your insightful instruction on this beautiful blues composition. I had begun this piece with another instructor and he is very good with the melody within the chords but you provided clarity on the chord arpeggios, the strum/fingerings, to D on the 6th, and clarity on use of the sus A, and the F# hammer on the D chord, (to which I took the liberty of also adding to the D, a pinky hammer on at the E string G and its pull off back to the regular D chord, just because to me it also seemed to fit haha) been playing approx 6 months and my experience has been greatly enhanced by your comprehensive instruction!
