I think it's true, it's his first game back, and also I think his wrist is not 100%. It's probably hurting. If he's feeling the same pain and he thinks it might break again, it will be very tough to get over. I'm laughing say this but is there any chance our main man can start practicing throwing left handed? lol
@rc12672 ай бұрын
Yea he did seem a little jittery like he wanted to get out of the pocket when he didn't have to. There wasb1 criticism of Burrow coming out of the draft that being he had hands on the smaller size for an NFL qb. Go back to opening week last year in Cleveland when it was raining and it looked like he was having trouble gripping the ball. This year in training camp videos and last year in that game he was playing and making decisions like someone that felt like the ball was slipping. Example being that awkward almost 2 handed push like passes he threw a few times. This year hasn't been as drastic as last year in the Cle game but there has been times when he has looked awkward throwing in camp especially on screens and check downs. His mechanics definitely look a lot different at times. I can't explain it well but im sure someoen else has noticed. I havent had the exact injury he had but i have severed 9 tendons in my wrist and can tell you it takes awhile for your wrist and not only your wrist but your forearm and hand to get grip strength back and the tightness in your wrist takes awhile to go away. In my case it's still permanently more tight then it was prior by a good bit. Idk how his was done but mine they had to cut the tendons straight before stitching em up. Idk if he got a new ligament by replacing it with another from a different area a cadaver or if they cleaned his own ligament up and stitched that up but it would make a big difference. Hope it's not the wrist but it's something i have noticed since training camp. I wonder if his early season struggles could even have something to do with temperature leading to differences in ball psi that being the ball having a little less psi in colder weather making it easier to grip. Idk just something i was wondering considering how much better his career numbers are from october on compared to september.

If you ask me, Zac’s asking too much every play from Burrow. With little prep in preseason. You want him scan the field and make Superman throws that beat coverages. They need to scheme someone open more. They need to challenge the middle. They need to go under center. They need to play action. They got to run the ball!! 12 attempts is not enough against this defense!
@ADM2902 ай бұрын
I am immensely grateful for this analysis. I watched the game and wondered if Burrow's injury had turned him into Chad Pennington, but now I see it was a lot of team and QB rust, bad processing (too fast or just wrong), and not much else. I also appreciate the take that the o-line played well overall (with a few exceptions). It seems, in light of this analysis, the remaining issues from game 1 is run defense, with a laser focus on cornerback tackling in the run game. Thanks, man! You're a genius analyst and communicator!

Thanks Joe. Unfortunately, even if Joe looks like Joe this week, this just leaves us with more questions. I’m glad they’re clearly working to get Chase mismatches from the slot. I’m glad Moss looks solid in pass pro, and glad the o line actually held up better than I remembered. Still hoping Mims gets the start sooner rather than later. We need some health to return to the d line, as much as Burrow’s performance was problematic, I think the defense’s inability to stop the run and make tackles is more of a problem for this team. Hopefully Tee can play soon and Joe’s back to working with his full complement of receivers.

@goodberry good stuff as always Joe! I know they were forced to change their mentality a bit when they started getting all the 2 high shells in 22 but I do wonder sometimes if putting such an emphasis in “staying on schedule” has dulled that big game hunting mentality that made Burrow so special and exciting coming out of LSU and that SB run

Burrow's only lined up 3 yards behind the line no wonder he feels all the pressure. Have Burrow drop back to a 7 step drop. This may give him room to step up in the pocket while still being in a position to throw. They have to run the ball more and used longer routes to open more space.

I just watched the whole video, albeit with x2 speed at times. Man that was abysmal. Def some good moments, but overall just so many missed opportunities. They need a complete routine change for their training camp protocol. IDK what the answer is, and frankly I am confused because Joe got a lot of reps this training camp....but they need more preseason time, that's the only solution. You want to protect players? screw it, Mims, Higgins and Jenkins all got hurt regardless. Just pick a lane and whatever happens happens.

Joe's problem, he can't move around like Mahomes, Lamar, Hurts, or even Allen. They should have traded one of their 'jump-ball' receivers for some draft capital, and brought in some linemen to protect him. Now all these other players want to get paid. The window is closing. Joe's contract only gets heavier with each passing year.

This game was pretty much as I expected. Joe was pressured within 1.7 seconds on the first pass play! He won’t say it, but has very little confidence in the offensive line. And who can blame him. He doesn’t even look down field on most plays because our line is so undependable unless we have 7 in protection. What will we ever do? We passed on multiple picks of quality interior linemen, with a quarterback like Joe. I just don’t get it. I’m convinced we are not smart enough to do what needs to be done. And it breaks my heart! But I have been a fan for life. And always will be, Who Dey!

Is there an option to playback the game film at a slower speed rather than continually pausing and skipping around? I honestly couldn’t finish watching bc it was becoming too frustrating. Some of my favorite film review channels to watch typically run the play sort of backwards and forwards slowly in a continuous loop, while explaining things and I feel like that’s a much better visual experience for the viewer. Burrow was absolutely garbage this game. His decision making was abysmal. People want to talk about his accuracy and completion percentage, but that percentage was padded like crazy with 3-4 yard passes as a run game extension designed to get Burrow back to speed on reading NFL game speed. But it was obvious as can be that he hasn't played a game of real football in almost 10 months. I also noticed a lot of wobbles on the throws.
