This song brings me back to Nov. 82 as a teenager. It was just before thanksgiving day, a cold chilly night hanging out grooving to this new song by Joe Jackson. These were the days. Young kids today don't know what good music really sounds like. Glad i was born when I was.

I remember watching this on MTV with my babysitter on those Saturday nights when the folks were "steppin' out." So the song is always tinged with a bit of childhood sadness and mystery.

Saw him perform this (and many others) in a piano bar at the South Center Inn in Edmonton, Alberta in 1983 - clasic. 28 years later, JJ is still one of the best.

Now the mist across the window hides the lines But nothing hides the colour of the lights that shine Electricity so fine look and dry your eyes We so tired of all the darkness in our lives With no more angry words to say can come alive Get into a car and drive to the other side Me babe, steppin' out Into the night, into the light You babe, steppin' out Into the night, into the light We are young but getting old before our time We'll leave the t.v and the radio behind Don't you wonder what we'll find steppin' out tonight You can dress in pink and blue just like a child And in a yellow taxi turn to me and smile We'll be there in just a while if you follow me Me babe, steppin' out Into the night, into the light You babe, steppin' out Into the night, into the light Me babe, steppin' out Into the night, into the light You babe, steppin' out Into the night, into the light.

Quand est sorti "I'm the man" j'avais 15 ans.... bientôt 60 !

I was privileged to see 3 of their concerts & interview them once. Similar to the the forces behind Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, ABBA, Midge Ure, Brian Transeau (BT), Sarah McLachlan, et al,, all are down to Earth, humble, give back to society via charities, & create award winning music. I enjoy nearly all genrés of music (except for modern day rap, some opera, etc), but contest that the 80's produced some stellar music that will never be forgotten. Respects, MARCUS Van STEUR 3:6:T RECORDS, Inc

I can't even bring myself to listen to Top40 radio today. For me that stopped as soon as I heard the likes of Def Leppard, KISS, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and so on. I listen to all kinds of music, but I definitely went thru a metal phase in my teens & I still love it today. I like other genres of music as well.

This song was such a ubiquitous part of the soundtrack of my life in the early 1980s. When Solid Gold came on WFLX 29 at 6PM on Saturday nights in West Palm Beach, Florida, you had a decision to make: stay home and watch the show, or go to the mall and spend some time flipping through vinyl 33s or cassettes at the record stores before the mall closed at 9PM.

Great song! I was in the navy (1981-1983) when this song came out. I was assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS LUCE DDG-38 that was undergoing an overhaul in the Phil.,PA naval shipyard on broad street. Great memories of steppin out on the town with fellow shipmates & hearing great songs like this. Anyone on the USS LUCE DDG-38 from 1982 to 1983 give me a shout on my youtube channel. Thanks for the post.

I still remember the first time I heard this in 1982. I was in my high school weight room working out and this song came on the radio and someone said "what is this, Muzak (i.e. elevator music...lol)?" It took a little while for this to grow on people (some people anyway...lol). Although I was a rocker (Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc) and hung out mostly with rockers, I did end up liking this song after listening to it a few times. Joe Jackson is a great musician. :)

I've heard this song many times over the years but never knew who sang it and it never hit a chord with me like it did when seeing Joe and The Roots perform it on Jimmy Fallon's show.
