Great year for Joe, sure was a character too. Need more like him in snooker.

Clive Everton's comment at the end that Joe had become the first world finalist from Yorkshire for 47 years was a reference to Sidney Smith, runner up to Joe Davis in 1938 and 1939. Smith was still alive at the time of this match (died 1990). Slight technicality: Smith was an adopted Yorkshireman because he was born in Derbyshire.

I was sat on the front row in the middle for one of the sessions of this match so trying to find that one. It is not this one. Same for the Steve Davis semi final.

Why the hell was Knowles carrying on being 15-8 down and 41 behind with only blue, pink and black left?! 🤔 Talk about a lost cause..

I know Joe won well but poor Tony had no luck in this frame pulling out some great pots only to find himself on nothing and those two superb snookers he got behind the pink near the end deserved better. Joe must have missed more balls in this frame than he did in the rest of the tournament.

Joe Johnson 150-1 my god those days if a gambler would have put one grand on him what a delightful result it would be. They dont make it like Joe anymore , very very special.

Tony never had much luck at the crucible especially being robbed by Thorburn in 1983

He wasn't robbed - he missed a sitter of a pink.

Yeah but the fluke was still brutal lol

@@parksyist had the "relatively straight forward" pink been potted then the fluke wouldnt have come into play
