Great video. Willie Thorne was one hell of a player back in the day (better than some, including myself, give him credit for). He potted some crackers here - but he did miss a few suspect shots - and this is maybe why he didn’t win as much as perhaps he should have? Also Hendry’s safety was decent for a 17 year old. I always thought of him as a potting machine, but obviously all the knowledge of angles is good for safety too

Can I ask what the feeling was at the time regarding Willie Thorne being fancied for the title? Certainly he was a very capable player but from looking at the 85-86 season leading up to Sheffield I'd say the in form players were Steve Davis, Terry Griffiths, Jimmy White and Cliff Thorburn. Willie had never progressed beyond the QF stages so I'm curious of the presenters comments at that time. I ask this with the utmost respect to the player.

Thorne , realising he was up against a better player , trying all the tricks to unsettle hendry . Hovering around the table after he'd played his shot etc

Legend !? I'm guessing you're from Leicester ? And actually I wasn't being disrespectful to Willie , he played within the rules and used his experience to beat a very young , but obviously even then , very good opponent . Don't be so quick to be offended

Willie never had 50 grand in his life, spent it all at the bookies.

(1st 2 frames) very poor positional play on a slow table and the audience are clapping very poor shots just because a half decent pot went in

Dullest game I've ever seen, very little sign of Hendrys' later brilliance.
