Louis had to be great, hold the title for 12 yrs, but supposed he had to face the fighters of the 80's & 90's, Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis, ALI or even Smokin Joe or Big George, Louis was only slightly bigger than The Rock
@Pedro_Le_Chef Жыл бұрын

@@Pedro_Le_Chef Larry Holmes and Lennox Kewis and many of the modern era fighters were 6'3" & more over 230, Joe would've had heap beau coo trouble with those super heavies, they hit much harder than that 190 lb'er Ettore, that era was much softer than the 80's, with the likes of Big George Foreman
@Pedro_Le_Chef Жыл бұрын
@@JomoDaMusicMan Larry Holmes, in his prime weighed 210 lbs. He was 190 cm tall. Louis weighed anywhere from 200 to 207 lbs in his prime. He fought at 213 lbs after the war. His height was 187 cm (6"2). That's 3 cm less than Holmes. They were the same size. Holmes didn't hit nearly as hard as the Baer brothers or Max Schmeling. Lennox was actually bigger than Louis but he got knocked out by 6"2 McCall. It's not impossible or improvable that the faster Louis also gets to him. Louis fought more ranked fighters than anybody aside from Ali. If old Foreman can compete in the 90s, you best believe prime Louis can too. Besides, we saw him fight big men. He completely demolished them every time. No decision victories against super heavies for Joe. He just put them down.

Excellent! Thank you for posting. Al Etore came right out and took it to Louis because Joe had recently been nocked out by Schmelling. The devastating double left hook knockout of Etore is about as brutal as you will ever see. This is not to take away from Etore. He was tough, never ran and hit Joe with great shots especially in the first round. That got Joe;s attention.

You can see how Louis maneuvers himself into position to throw that last left hook; notice also the pivot on his left toe during execution of that punch. That's the redistribution of weight creating torque. I think the slo-mo while lengthy is not a bad thing.
@johnnya8675 жыл бұрын
Louis was a as patient and deliberate as they come. His defense wasn't the greatest but offense sure made up for it! Equally dangerous off both sides, great balance and distance. He also parries a lot something I don't see fighters do much anymore. Lots of examples of him tying up the opponent's left with his right and keeping the glove open to pick off punches or spin and maneuver the guy Great basics, he doesn't always get credit for his boxing skills cause he always knocks everybody out!

Everyone complains about the slow motion. They don’t do it anymore. Why? I’d like to see slow motion of Wilder’s last knockout. Breazeale was trying to throw a left starting from below his hip. His head was completely unprotected. Big mistake

Ettore is what you expect a Philly fighter to be. He always wants to move forward and punch. He should have retreated after the first knockdowns, to clear his head. But no, he just kept trying to attack Joe. Al was really a cruiserweight, long before that weight category existed. Too big to make the light heavyweight limit. Not big enough to fight bigger heavyweight boxers.
@acetofresh1 Жыл бұрын
Most of the losses of the bigger heavyweights came to smaller guys. The cruiserweight division was a cop out that came when fighters lost the old skills to compete. When the Klitschko's actually fought someone talented they looked clueless
