The amount of subtle grappling and blocking with the arms is so interesting to watch as it's almost entirely vanished from modern boxing. Jimmy Braddock doesn't get enough credit people. He was past his prime and had made the greatest comeback in the history of the sport at that time and still gave a younger/stronger Joe Louis a competitive fight. When Joe Louis says "you're the most courageous opponent he has ever faced", pay Mr. Braddock his respect by studying him as well. God bless!
@afranks85663 жыл бұрын
He doesn't get enough credit. Keep in mind in over 80 fights even tho he had multiple losses he was only knocked out twice and one of those 'knockout' losses wasn't even really a knockout it was a TKO stopped due to cuts. Joe Louis is the only guy to actually finish him, but he didn't go down without a fight. Braddock won like a champ and lost like a champ. And even tho he lost Joe always credited him with being the bravest guy he ever fought. Braddock fought one more fight after this winning a razor thin decision against Tommy Farr who was definitely no slouch himself and then wisely retired afterwards even tho the win against Farr had earned him a number 2 contender spot for the title and could've gotten a rematch with Louis had he really wanted it. He was one of the few fighters that got to go out on his own terms. Later in life he served as a captain and self defense instructor in WWII and also helped construct the Verrazano Bridge. He and his wife mae raised their children and remained married living in the same house til the day he died. Truly the Cinderella Man.☘️

Joe Louis was an American hero and the IRS absolutely destroyed him financially. He donated winnings. Purchased a boat load of tickets to gift. Enlisted in the army as a private earning $21 a month. Donated his winnings to charity after Pearl Harbor. Still the government wanted more. He was flat broke and forced to un-retire in his late 30's to payback his debt. He lost to Ezzard Charles and Marciano. His boxing skills had greatly diminished at that point and took a beating from Marciano. IRS took his winnings and he was still broke. What this govt did to this hero was disgraceful...

Absolutely correct. For me...The Brown Bomber's (REAL) stats are when he retired...56 wins to 1 loss. Forcing him to come out of retirement, not just past his prime but a different man due to the pressures of being in debt (you know how men are about that kind of stress) was just criminal, in of itself! Out of the next 10 fights after retirement, he STILL went 8 and 2...ending his career with 66 wins to 3 losses....but for me, Joe's always gonna be 56 and 1.

Have to Rate Louis high on accomplishment ( being champ for like 11 maybe 12 years ) BUT to be honest I think there are a few other champs where head to head he has almost no chance against. Marciano would have Ko'ed Louis even when he was young. Tyson when young just had way to much fire power for Joes average Chin. Liston could easily hurt Joe. Ali is Ali need i say more. I MIGHT MAYBE even take Larry Holmes against him.

I feel that. He is a great champ regardless tho bro. Beat a lot of former Champions before he was even champ himself. Set a huge streak of defenses and and then fought the next generation in rocky, Charles and Walcott. Can’t ask for me from a champ. Ali, Holmes, Lewis and wlad also fit the bill.

Marciano - didn't have his skill set. Ali - was just taller and weighed more and had a great chin. Sonny Listen might have been the one to do it in his prime. Mike Tyson - psychologically weaker and never faught well against strong/accurate punchers. What made Louis more dangerous than the other heavyweights just stated, was the fact that he was the only puncher who could land successive knockout punches in combination and always had that knockout discipline all the way to the end of the fight. God bless!

@@mattsharkey8437 I stand by what I said. I would take Marciano, Ali AND Tyson vs Louis without hesitation. As for Louis Liston I would have to think about that one. Liston was a hard puncher but he missed a Very High % of his punches I could see him getting counter punched and Listons chin much like Louis chin was questionable.

@@alivstyson1864 agree to disagree. Skill and strategy are always forgotten in regards to Joe Louis capabilities. He didn't need to move much to establish dominance and put himself into proper punching range. I don't see the three you stated taken those punches in volume doing well. Listen always had a punchers chance and Louis never was the one to give ground in the ring during a fight.

@@alivstyson1864 Ali and Tyson I would agree with you on. Marciano I don't think so (and that kinda pains me to say that cuz the massachusetts italian in me would love to agree with you) but the Rock always did have a punchers chance so I couldn't say for sure but Louis was definitely far more skilled and gave Rocky some trouble earlier on in the fight they did have despite being way past his prime at the time. As far as Liston goes might actually favor Liston. Louis has even gone on record saying he's glad Liston wasn't around when he was fighting. It definitely would've been an interesting fight tho.🤔
