Joe O'Brien on WMCA - 1/20/65

And speaking of Herb Oscar Anderson, here is a portion of Joe O'Brien as heard on WMCA back in January 1965. And just to keep in mind, this is Joe at his very best. He was doing a great job doing mornings on WMCA along with his sidekick Benny. He was competing with Herb Oscar Anderson on WABC at that time, and Joe nailed it and HOA lost it. Joe O'Brien has been on this station since he first started way back in 1935, and Top 40 has not been there yet until 1959 or so when he became the longest running morning show in history and he was the original "Good Guy". Joe did it just right, and Herb Oscar Anderson doesn't since he has been with WABC for 8 years, and Joe O'Brien has been WMCA for nearly 32 years until he left in 1968 or 1969 or so when he went to WNBC-AM for a few years and then ended up at WHUD in Peekskill which is the lower Hudson Valley area and he remained until 2000. He died 5 years later in 2005 after a car accident that never survived. If you have not listened to Joe O'Brien, here he is.

I loved their vaudeville jokes like BMR and the mind reader 😅. PD Ruth Myers once said she wanted WMCA to be like a vaudeville personality station and it was.

WMCA never used audio reverb. WABC did 😮 1010 WINS (top 40) didn't either.

There is ECHO on some of the promos but NOT on the actual deejay live talking. In radio that's called the audio chain. It's not on the chain but yes on some pre-recorded promos.
