Im so glad that Cousin Brucie is back on WABC, bringing most of this magic back, even if its just on the weekends, they even got back the old jingles! Too bad Dan isn't still around, I know the new owner John "Cats" would have got him a slot for a show right away. RIP Dan, and happy "Rebirth" of WABC MusicRadio!

Growing up in Philly, I heard WABC a lot. Dan and cousin Brucie were two of my favorites, along with Philly legends, Dr Don Rose, Jerry Blavat, WFIL, WMMR. The days when radio was entertaining and fun.

@garytorresani8836: I too was also born and raised here in Philly; Folcroft to be precise. I was a 7-year-old second grader back in March of '65. I too used to listen to WABC down here in Philly, along with WFIL as well. That's when radio was worth listening to, but not today.

@@TheBrooklynbodine Still is! And with Brucie back on WABC, these old jingles and songs come blasting back out into the atmosphere again, every Saturday night, starting at 6pm (Brucie goes til' 10, then Tony)! If you listen very closely to the first Air Check (at approximately time stamp 0.03), it's mentioned "WABC AM & FM in New York." I guess what eventually became WPLJ was simulcasting at least part of the AM side at the time. I'm surprised that Dan didn't mention "77 AM and 95 & 1/2 FM (When WPLJ was WABC-FM, they used to advertise the station as "95 and a half," not "95.5" as the station was known when the call letters were changed to "PLJ." And hearing the "Robert Hall" advertisement brought back memories. But I thought that chain was in other Northern New Jersey counties as well (the advertisement pertains to the Union/Somerset/Middlesex area. Ironically, the "Plainfields" are appropriately divided - one to each of these counties

I'm sure...absolutely sure, I tuned into WABC many times with my few transistor radios ( GE, Zenith, Panasonic, and the popular models of the 1960's) in the 1960's in the evenings from my home in Indianapolis. Great fun listening...especially with the ear-phone plugged in while in bed trying to sleep. The stronger AM stations from good distances just made me dream of being a DJ like these guys of America's best radio stations. I still, though, had my #1 radio station as WLS - 890 in Chicago. Oh...and my "favorite radio commercial on WABC 77? That one who was selling furs with: "Remember...Money talks, nobody walks!" Boy, at times I use that slogan when it comes to money!

Love the music and the jingles, but except for playing or reading out adverts in between they didn't do a lot ot programming, did they? I got tired after only 13 minutes of it. But maybe that's just because I was raised on European public radio and I'm not used to these blatant assaults of consumerism, so bear with me.
