Well that sounds nice and simple to learn.... Seriously, Joe's arrangements are just other worldly. The man's genius knew no bounds.

Took a green room lesson from Joe in the early 80's. Never transcribed his work, but you sure did a nice job. Thanks for sharing.

I've never heard him play this song the same way twice when he was on solo guitar. It's beautiful to listen to!
@chriscrew65412 жыл бұрын
I don't think that Joe Pass played anything the same twice. I think he just carried a theme in his head and with his wonderful talent used it as a framework to weave the improvisations around. But, just like everyone else, he had licks that resurface in all his arrangements and we can all recognise them, it's just that he was so damn good at it that they always sounded so fresh, natural and not contrived.

Can you transcript Beautiful Love's tabs?
@philmanuel64656 жыл бұрын
Just purchased the transcription, and it isn’t the one in this video. Still great work, but a little disappointing as I wanted this version. Also, there is no video walkthrough. Is there a different link for this one with the video walkthrough. It would help if your site had a preview page for the transcriptions, too. Thanks.

Found the link pointing to the 1992 live version, so now I have both versions to use for study! Great work. Here's the link to the 1992 live version in this video: The sheet is available at this link edge-effect.media/services/arrange-notation.html if you're interested.

Hi Phil, I sent you an email concerning your issue. I'm glad you're happy with both transcriptions! Where did you find that link though? That site shouldn't exist anymore actually :-D
@philmanuel64656 жыл бұрын
It's the link in the description of the video, clicking the Show More displays it. Yeah, I'll use ideas from both transcriptions, so nothing lost. I worked on it a bit this morning already, and having fun with it. Thanks again for your efforts, I really appreciate it. My ears are just about shot, lost about 95% hearing in both ears, but I can still have fun playing my guitar despite it all. Cheers, and best wishes.
@punkntded5 жыл бұрын
@@philmanuel6465 what happened to your hearing ?
@philmanuel64655 жыл бұрын
Aman unfortunately, nerve damage in both ears. Lost about 95-98% of my hearing. I can still play, but transcribing is something I cannot do too well. After learning tunes by ear all of these years, not really reading music, I started reading music in standard notation, mostly as tab usually has mistakes. I find the notation generally more reliable. So, all is not lost. Cheers!

Modes are easy
@cheopys3 жыл бұрын
@Ken Brown I didn't say he did, and his transcription above is far more chromatic than modal. But a lot of people think modes are some huge technical challenge. They aren't. I use them in my composition all the time, though I usually hybridize them e.g. A D E F# G A Bb C

This is a great transcription but it isn't perfect as far as some of the Tab fingering is concerned. Being a reader, or more accurately someone who can decipher the dots, I find that Tab can sometimes get in the way and hinder the best soundings under my own fingers. I have every respect and admiration for the person who has made this transcription, because I certainly could not have possibly have done it, but having worked on it for the last couple of months and trying to compare the Tab fingering against what is visible in the video of Joe Pass playing this piece, I believe that I have just about eliminated some of the very small errors and omissions in the transcript. But at the end of the day it is all pointless, as however good a transcription of Joe Pass' work is it is just a snapshot in time because Joe Pass never played the same thing twice. Yes, he used signature licks in his music which just seemed to emanate from him through his great talent and instantaneous creativity, which is the sign of a true musician at whatever level of competency and Joe was at the very pinnacle of his chosen profession. So, you can impress your friends or people in a guitar shop by learning such pieces, and gain musical knowledge along the way, but at the end of the day it is just converting the black bits on the paper into mechanical movements on the fret-board. You may be playing tunes but you are not making music. BTW, I can only play tunes!
