I've seen this scene play out in real life. The psycho goes from the life of the party to John Wick in the flick of a switch. Doesn't end well. Psycho smashed a beer glass into one of his friends faces, smash another friend with a Budweiser bottle and bites the nose off a third before half the bar jumps him and beat him half to death. Most intense 60 seconds of my life.... Most dangerous type of person you will ever meet....

I was there! In 1989 I was bartending at the Mayflower Hotel on Central Park West in NYC. Actor Joe Pesci was staying there while filming a new movie. I had gotten to know Joe a little bit prior to that as he had been a frequent guest of Robert DeNiro. DeNiro had been living at the hotel for around ten years at the time. Joe would always stop by the bar to shoot the shit. He actaully loved my impression of the hotels GM. He would always ask me do it for him. Whenever I did, he would literally hold his stomach as he would be laughing so hard. As filming continued that summer of 1989, Joe came up to the bar one afternoon and out of nowhere asked if I'd like to come down to the set and watch them film. He told me to come down to this restaurant on West 50th and Broadway where they would be shooting the following day. He said my name would be on a list at the door. When I arrived the next day there was this huge guy holding a clipboard at the door of the "Hawaii Kai" restaurant. When I walked onto the set I immediately recognized Martin Scorsese. I was told to stand off to the side while they filmed. As I was looking around the set (which was the middle of the dining room) I noticed that I was the only person in the room that wasn't part of the production crew. I was starting to feel kind of special as Scorsese yelled Action! Too make a long story short, the movie being shot was called Goodfellas. The scene I got to watch them film was the "you think I'm funny"? scene which of course ended up being one of the most iconic scenes in movie history.

My father comes busting through the double doors with an angry look on his face. He grabbed me by my shirt, lifted me off the ground. We locked eyes and so I knew at that point he was playing around. Disagree. This scene hinted at his anger issues, which is what got Tommy whacked. He was always sensitive and had to be the toughest guy in the room. I get the impression he’s somewhat serious about this; his insecurities, Napoleon complex, and fragile ego push him to confrontation and violence throughout the whole movie. This is foreshadowing at it’s finest.
