This is a big reason why the anti-vaxx movement has gotten stronger as the years have passed. It's a lot easier to be dismissive about the beneficial effects vaccines have had on our society when you haven't lived through any of those bad diseases yourself or even know anybody else that has. If some of these people had family or friends that were crippled for life by polio or who nearly died from the measles I'm sure many would change their tune. Perhaps that's one of the main ways we can reduce anti-vaxx sentiment - better education about all the terrible diseases and suffering that have been so effectively eradicated through the use of vaccines. Show them some indepth stories (complete with pictures) about what it's like to get smallpox or have a child with whooping cough.

There is irony in it when it comes from those kinds of people for sure, however the validity of concerns aren't to be ignore because of it. People love to use excuses like "you're not a doctor" or "follow the science" all the while sheepishly ignoring massive red flags. Need I remind that the vaccine producers were all absolved of any and all consequences? So if the product (vaccine) is going to end up causing serious life altering problems down the line the victims can't sue. There is massive information out there regarding it’s inception, and it’s purpose, but of course, you’re only open to “explanations” to confirm the beliefs you already hold, or have faulty sources. If you want to learn about it, go google it. This vaccine wasn’t rushed out, it is an MRNA vaccine which simply doesn’t not take the same amount of time to produce compared to traditional vaccines. We are lucky that we were able to produce a vaccine of this kind, so that it could be utilized quickly. I’m not going to go point for point with you, that’s not my job. I have a 17 year old son that has a disorder where his body doesn’t create antibodies to illnesses. He has to get IV treatments that have antibodies from other people once a month at the hospital to keep him from being sick constantly, and will have to do this the rest of his life. People who can need to get vaccinated to protect not only themselves, but also other people who either can’t because of medical reasons or are like my son who may not be able to fight off covid if they were to get it. I got both my vaccines and even though they might not be very effective for my son, he wanted to and did get both is covid vaccines.

Yeah it happens very often, but that is to be expected really. There're people out there who make certain decisions/statements and if they make choices that are atypical within any society, they're deemed as "wrong" to think that way. And if others make similar decisions, they're lumped into the same atypical group as being wrong. All in all, this is really how every community/society is like. If you're talking about something that nobody is, you're bound to be alienated. The only way of preventing hostility from such people is to conform and become a part of them.

I've talked to several people last year who were so blase, saying things like "well people are going to die and we just need to accept that and go back to normal already." It's real easy to talk like that, until someone you know is on a ventilator. I usually reply with something along the line of "kind of fucked up that you're okay with my family member dying because you want a haircut." I'm not opposed to vaccines. But you still have to have in mind that the new vaccines are highly experimental and are an unorthodox way to make vaccines. I'm just happy that takling the vaccine, isn't mandetory so you have the choice to wait for a more thoroughly tested variant of the vaccines to come out.

I agree that people should never be outright forced. If the individual is actually fully following safety measures such as social distancing, continuing to self-isolate, wearing a mask when they do need to go out for essentials, etc. then by all means wait. But you can't have it both ways, thinking otherwise is frankly entitled. You can't go to events, to bars/restaurants, travelling, etc while unvaccinated. It cannot be ignored that until they are vaccinated they are a vehicle for an extremely communicable illness. We've seen it time and again one or two people being careless and spreading it through an entire community.

@@KaiCtotheG Where I'm from, you can have it both ways. You just have to show a negative test that allows you to go out to social events. It last up to 72 hours before you have to get a new one. I get the emotion she's feeling. She is concerned and scared because she doesn't understand the science behind it. Years ago there was a morning sickness pill pregnant women would take and they ended up with deformed babies even though it was an approved medication. I believe thats part of the reason she is wary. I don't, however, understand the logic behind it. When researching on legitimate websites there is nothing to suggest anything like this would happen. I understand her fear because she is being scared by the "news" and the shit thats on social media.

True, but the word itself is so loosely thrown at other people that it has basically lost its meaning at this point. Like, literally any decision you'd make, someone's bound to make a similar decision before or after you. Personally not anti vax, but I'm very hesitant about something that has come out this quickly. I get that they may have used similar strains from other coronaviruses, but to just suddenly have something out this quickly feels sus. We are only looking at it from a short term thing. What is the long term. What kind of affects could it have on your body 10 years from now. Get it if you want it, don't get it if you want to do that. No one should really be hating on each other like this.

@@Karma-tf8se I'm in the same boat. I'm okay with vaccines. I think the yearly flu shot is important. But im only really okay with it because of the sheer amount of time that has been spent on all of the things we have vaccines for now. Covid 19 is a new strain, disease, whatever. And we have, at most, 1 year worth of development. Im not saying it doesn't work, but I dont trust something like this yet. I have a family member who was in the Navy, had to have all sorts of shots. And one of them ended up affecting his health long term. That sort of thing exists.

So yes, get the vaccine. It came out quickly because they're smart and have studied vaccines and know the formulas necessary to create effective vaccines. The problem I have with the covid vaxes are the long term side effects which cant be determined right now since it was realeased pretty quick. What about the women who had a trombose shortly after their first shot? What about the men who got myocarditis after their shot? Besides, even if vaccinated you can still catch the Covid, difference is you're more likely to survive it. But is that worth it for a sickness, that aint that lethal (on average)?
