But then. >My friend walks in and she says "isn't that right [name], I'm still so upset over it" >She then turns to me, I am not kidding, and says; "He's over it, but I am still hurt". .... >I was thinking she did not seriously just say that.... >Anyone ever who has been cheated on will tell you you never really get over that shit. Honestly, I've literally stood at the back of a theater ready to clean as soon as the movie ends and have seen children get up and intentionally dump their entire popcorn on the floor, their parents see and don't react. Honestly fruit flies is vanilla when it comes to weird things people have as pets. My dudes, try fire ants. Try slugs. Try millions of samples of microbiotic ecosystems full of tardigrades and ciliates (shoutout Journey to the Microcosmos!) In second grade I had pet Madagascar hissing cockroaches and I cried my eyes out when they died, I loved those little bastards. Or how about slime mold, an amoebic single-celled organism that spends part of its life as an amoeba and then basically turns into a mushroom/fungus/mold to disperse its spores. They can look like dog vomit, or the coolest neon green mushroom you've ever seen, or look like actual slime from outer space, or like a bunch of cute little butterfly eggs in beautiful colors like coral and pearl and burgundy. And people grow and raise them for fun. There's an iceberg of weird things people raise in captivity, both as pets and as livestock, like people raising termites and snails for food.

I keep a couple silverfish in an open container with some paper towel. In all honesty I think they're cute in their own way, and I love that they're so strangely fast. One moment they're meandering along, the next they've launched themselves across the container. They seem to be doing pretty good, which I'm happy about. Apparently they can live for upwards of three years, along with being able to regrow their limbs, antennae, and the silver scales they're known for! So while I can't personally say that I'd choose fruit flies; I can respect people keeping their own weird insects and whatnot as long as they treat them well! And on a side note, Journey to the Microcosmos is amazing.
