Beetle juice This is simply not true, Grizzly territory extends from BC to Alberta to Northern Manitoba to Nunavut to Yukon and Northwest territories. Also they had been spotted as far east as Northern Quebec. BC has banned some forms of grizzly hunting not all, for example first nations are still allowed to hunt grizzlies.

Just the other day there was a poached grizz found by the side of the highway with its paws cut off and the rest of the animal left to rot!!! I got no problems if it's killed ethically and the whole animal used... I grew up on game meat and hunt deer and other game, (bear is much like pork in taste and texture, if harvested at the right time and isn't a dump bear), but so called trophy hunters disgust me... especially "canned hunting"... the truth is, a live grizz brings in more dollars than dead ones do... many of the bears that were shot each year were bears that stopped seeing people as preditors, they got so used to human eco-tourists throughout the rest of the year... they don't read a calender and say to themselves "oh, it's the start of hunting season today, people won't just be using their cameras to shoot me today", so it might as well be a canned hunt... this goes for any species on any continent

I think it is time that people maybe mind their own business and stop complaining about what others do. The sad part of animal rights activists is that most of them despise humans for shooting a trophy animal and would rather have the same animal die that winter or the next by starving to death because it is old and beat up. It actually makes me laugh when I hear Joe talk about old fat guys with their foot up on an animal like they have done something. If he (Joe) worked in a mine for 45 years and saved every penny he could and finally in his 60's got to do 1 thing he wanted maybe his attitude would change on the subject. Instead there are too many people who talk too much and have no clue. I actually agree with Rogan on some things, but trophy hunting and climate change are not 2 of those things.

I'm Canadian, from the province to the left, Alberta, where Grizzly hunting is also illegal. I can tell you that Grizzly hunting here was banned for population reasons, but BC is a completely different story. There is some real problems with them pushing out the black bears there, and the only thing keeping it balanced was the hunting, and now we have the extreme amount of anti-hunters in Vancouver wanting to ban all hunting, not knowing what they're voting on or talking about

I am from BC and i feel the ban on grizzly hunting is a bad idea. I personally have no desire to hunt grizzly bear but i do hunt animals they eat. The problem with banning the hunt is grizzly numbers are gonna get out of control with them having no predators hunting them. This is gonna put strains on the animals they hunt including moose which numbers are already very low. I do not support trophy hunting but feel predator hunting is necessary

The things that kill grizzlies are cars and trains (and sometimes other grizzlies). They are apex predators, they dont need many things to keep their populations in check. You should be smarter and not take the word from Americans on this topic, who absolutely decimated the range and population of grizzlies in their country. Do you think its legal to hunt grizzlies anywhere in the lower 48? No lmao. Want to know why? Because they annihilated their own populations of grizzlies.
@BasePuma4007
@BasePuma4007 2 жыл бұрын
If you look at the data on Grizzly populations in Canada, you'll see that they have been declining for years and they're classified as threatened. Problem bears in communities across BC and western Alberta can be dealt with through relocation. They don't have any natural predators, but they do have enormous calorie needs from their size and they compete with wolves and mountain lions for a portion of those calories. I think its good both the Government of BC and Government of Alberta have banned hunting them.
@Duck-dp7mq
@Duck-dp7mq 2 жыл бұрын
@@dingo9696 I have no idea what you are talking about, but bear hunting in the lower 48 is absolutely leagal. It varies by state. Also, the population is nowhere near decimated. You say that Americans don't know what they are talking about and then back it up with incorrect information.

I live in Campbell River British Columbia and know the owners of Knight Inlet Lodge. The owners pay over 25k out of their own pockets each year to the person who has the tag to hunt one grizzly per year in their territory not to shoot it. Put a visit to their lodge on your bucket list, it's amazing! Or just sit in my back yard and watch for the black bears that wandered though tonight for free... (yes, I almost shit my pants!)
@nickholmes3371
@nickholmes3371 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the people who pay to come on bear safaris where they only take photos generates far more money throughout the province these days. And the reputation as a pro-environment nature friendly area is huge for drawing in tourists. I'm from Northern BC, but now in CR as well. Your friends at the lodge should consider transitioning into animal friendly eco-tourism because that is where the future eco-tourism economy is trending. Relying on hunters isn't the most sustainable strategy, given trends. BTW for any readers who might be confused as there are no Grizzlies on Vancouver Island - Knight Inlet Lodge is on the mainland, but not far from Campbell River by sea plane. Please visit!

Lmao, have you actually seen salmon spawning? There are literally thousands of corpses on the riverbanks every season. While I'm sure grizzlies leaving corpses that eventually turn into nutrients is true, so do the eagles, ravens, coyotes, foxes, and just about every single other omnivore in BC. I'm almost certain the impact grizzlies have compared to any other omnivore is minimal.

Dude I'm not going to argue with you about this. I know I am right, I took this in university. I didn't say Grizzles I said bears. As in all bears. They are the ones that catch the salmon and drop them into the bush where the bush needs nutrients not the shore of a river. Unless you are telling me these salmon are flying thousands of feet out of the water miles away into the bush. Here are 3 different sources you fucking idiot. chonkp.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/how_bears-feed-salmon-to-the-forest.pdf www.bbc.com/future/story/20140218-salmon-fertilising-the-forests kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4DXnJihhZKmrs0 PS: I also hunt and care for animals.

@nickholmes3371 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Fish eating predators are super important for the ecosystem. It's well understood, but some people can't comprehend these complex systems. Not only that they drag stuff in, but they leave corpses around for other smaller predators that are less able to hunt.... Grizzlies themselves basically only eat the richest, fattiest parts of the fish, then the birds and smaller predators/scavengers spread the rest around.

Leave the hunting to the wild animals unless you really need the food.

I highly doubt they are. The only reason those populations are affected is because we have taken so much natural habitat from them. The world would be in a natural balance if it weren’t for parasites known as “humans”. The idea that we need to control populations is absolutely ridiculous. The reason we need to control populations is for our own selfishness and greed. If we weren’t here the grizzlies, wolves, deer, elk and moose would live on in perfect harmony like they have for thousands of years.
@lastmashstanding2155
@lastmashstanding2155 3 жыл бұрын
@@csho6512 with the establishment of human populations the damage is done. The animals are displaced from natural home ranges, humans by their very existence have an effect of the natural world. What would have been cyclical population growths of all species before the arrival of the frontier civilization have now be put out of balance by us just living here. So we have a responsibility to keep things balanced. We could let it run wild but the long term consequences could be horrible.

I guess we make more money in BC from Grizzly Bear watching than Grizzly Bear hunting. Maybe they are more economically and ecologically useful alive? There are a lot of made up comments here from people claiming to be from BC. i'm from BC and I highly recommend people look up any claims about the population of grizzlies, the legality of the hunt before the ban, and what most people do with the meat. In my experience, it's mostly been trophy hunters from other provinces (Alberta and Ontario especially) that come looking for bears. They mostly take the skins and skulls, since bear meat isn't particularly delicious. Bears are NOT a major threat to human life, attacks are rare. I'm not an expert. I think the ban is good, but maybe it would have been better to have a very small bear tag lottery.

The thing is, some areas of bc have more grizzlies then you can shake a stick at. Other areas have few or none. The areas with the best food will have the biggest grizzlies/most grizzlies. Typically too the human populations are on the places with the best food resources like valley bottoms. Look up the black grizzly of whiskey creek explains about some bear attacks that happened in Banff. See bears will eventually fill all the niches they can in the wild and the only places left will be near human populations. Grizzlies are sexually mature around 3-5 years old and the mothers raise their young for around 3 years. So its a slow turn around in the reproductive cycle. My guess is we'll be having increased bear/human encounters in the next 10 years. Also bears are fucking smart. They'll figure out humans aren't hunting them very quickly and will lose their fear of humans.

Shogun33 there are farmers who have to kill pests like rats and possums, they also have to kill coyotes and wolves that threaten livestock. And sometimes you have to defend yourself from dogs in residential areas. If a Rottweiler comes running to your 2 year old, you have the right to defend yourself. If any dog that you deem capable of killing you or anyone else in your house comes onto your property you should defend yourself. To defend yourself you may accidentally or purposely have to kill the animal attacking(it has you and won't let go).

Leaving the meat also feeds all the carrion eaters in a forest, if they are getting a hunting permit(which is limited on how many can be taken within an area) who cares. None of it actually goes to waste. Over hunting is the only possible problem, hence limited permits and seasons. you are either hunting legally, or poaching.

hollindh, Hunting for sport by definition, means that you are only after the animal or part of the animal as a trophy. It is like hunting elk and only taking the rack, hunting a bear for only the skull and hide, or hunting a wolf for just the pelt. Joe clearly does not do that. Enjoying that hunt has nothing to do with the definition of hunting for sport.

What I understand is that when you remove a solution from the issue, you have thrown our wildlifes ecosystem out of wack. Prey population declines as the Grizzly bears increase to a certain point where they will die of starvation and also, our BC hunting regulations and management systems need to be improved by a long shot. And also, they dont need to focus on banning wolf hunts either. Stay out of it if you don't want to understand the conservation of wildlife ecosystems.

In most parts of Africa, a lot of the money made from trophy hunters goes specifically to conservation... it's a clever business strategy -- take the money from trophy hunters, let them kill an old or weak animal that was on the way out anyway, & use that money to protect animals from poachers & protect ecosystems from corporations, etc. That being said, the people who pay for those trophy hunts are still pretty gross imho.

People will eat Lion meat, but only if it's convenient. It's extremely rare. Jared Diamond claims to have eaten Lion meat once while he was out somewhere doing field research. I think the Lion was killed by local people (in Africa) who were afraid that the Lion was going to go after their livestock or something like that, and then they butchered it and cooked it in order to not waste the meat.

I looked into the Cecil thing, and it wasn't legal to kill that particular lion. The guides that the guy hired were either incompetent, or liars, and apparently legal action was taken against them for leading him to Cecil. Even if it was legal, Cecil was a tourist attraction who had spent his entire life around humans, being looked at by humans and studied/monitored by humans. The lion was almost like a pet dog when he was shot and killed. The guy might have actually been able to walk up to him at point blank range and shoot him. Like, honestly, how can you possibly justify killing an animal like that? The official statement made by the guy "Hey man, I just do this because I enjoy this kind of thing," paints him in a negative light. Yeah, you enjoy going to a foreign country and hunting lions that have essentially been domesticated in a protected area.

Mr. Vincent seems to have some kind of ulterior motive in saying the BC g-bear hunt was closed due it being a "trophy hunt"... His biologist friends are claiming dwindling population, just like the biologists in Alberta did in 2006. But there's 1000's out there, in each Province. While it's true that a lot of grizzly meat got left in the bush, some hunters kept the meat and sometimes was donated to locals. Plus it's carrion for the rest of the scavengers & predators... Shame on you two for painting grizzly hunters as senseless killers.

Really? When a predator kills it goes for the weakest of the group, a process of survival of fittest. But trophy hunting selects the best and healthiest of the group, hurting and diluting the gene pool. Apart from that vast majority Asian countries conserve and protect animals by tourism not by trophy hunting. Africa is bending over backwards to enable hunting to cater to Chinese demand for traditionalmedicinal uses and America's obession with guns. Europe decimated it's wild populations because of excessive hunting.

Trophy hunting does more to the conservation of animals than any other means. Trophy hunting have literally saved species, especially in Africa and have contributed means to stop poachers. With trophy hunting comes regulation, incentive to the locals to keep the animals alive and a lot of money from private investors. Without trophy hunting, most of the wild animals would be poached and killed by the locals, since they have no incentive to keep them alive, because animals like elephants and lions just become burdens.

Yes they eat lions in certain areas in Africa (Joe inquiring about certain Africans villages eating lion meat). I saw a show in which a lion was killing livestock in one village. A hunter was called in and killed it. The host saw the people carry it off and asked them what they were going to do with it. The leader (chief), said we're going to eat it. The host asked again in disbelief and the guy shrugged his shoulders and walked away. I guess It's a lot of meat, and the conditions for that village are harsh and they've done this before.

Joe Rogan, I gave you a thumb up. I agree with your viewpoints. As a lifelong hunter, I despise lazy hunters. On the other hand, if "trophy" hunting at the exclusion of taking the meat out of the field is illegal. Then heavy fines should be the response from the various wildlife officials whether in the U.S or in Canada. Banning the hunting of a species altogether is not the answer in my opinion. The lack of resources in enforcing laws is probably one of the many reasons why grizzly bear hunting was abolished (whether temporarily or permanently) in B.C.
