Currently having this fight with my own doctor; after months of doing fasts and eating carnivore I'm down 30 lbs, my heartburn is gone, skin issues gone, and feeling better than I have felt in years. Blood pressure and all lab values are stellar, but LDL is a bit high. So my doctor is demanding I throw all this progress away and go back on statins. I tried to explain why LDL goes up on carnivore and low carb diets, and why it's not a concern when A1C, triglycerides and other relevant#'s are perfect. My doc's eyes glazed over as I was explaining and I could see I'd lost him. Pathetic what doctors have become in modern America. They're just glorified drug pushers. F*cking idiots, I can't believe these people have medical degrees. Well I don't care what they say, I will NOT take statins again! F*CK. THAT.

After Bill Clinton had heart surgery he took the advice of Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, also an Olympic rowing golf medalist and Bronze star holder, to follow a plant based diet. It worked and Bill still follows it today. Baker’s medical license was suspended in 2017. Caldwell Esselstyn is a cardiac surgeon, not an orthopaedic surgeon like Baker. His wife is the granddaughter of the founder of the Cleveland Clinic who also eats plant based. Dr. William C. Roberts, a cardiovascular pathologist, was former Executive Director at Baylor and Chief Editor of the American journal of cardiology, also follows a plant based diet. They are heavy weights in the heart disease field. Baker is a small time doctor who had his license suspended. No comparison. Read Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn’s book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease. Make your own decision after at least looking at both sides

SincereDoper I agree with you, anecdotally speaking. Science and medicine will take a while before they’ll come to terms with the carnivore diet, data or not. They scoffed about the ketogenic diet and now it’s gaining more awareness and acceptance. Our biology tends to respond better to these new eating lifestyles than a doctor’s ignorant drug/surgery pushing opinion anyway. When ignorant doctors get left behind enough, they’ll be another shift. I see a lot of merit with this lifestyle despite a “professional’s” opinion. Proof’s in the pudding anyway, not just in a silly study published in some journal.

I participated in the Carnivore Study. I eat 100% meat, daily coffee, and a little red wine. Unlike Dr. Baker, I did my blood work after 90 days. I had great numbers and my doctor said I was in "perfect health". My results after 90 days on a carnivore diet; triglycerides: 46, Total Cholesterol: 187, HDL: 67, LDL: 111, A1C 4.9, Average glucose 94. I am a cyclist. I participated in a Tour de Tucson after the 90 days and had a personal record for the event. I averaged 18.5 mph without drafting. My previous PR was 16.5 mph. I added other food back in for Thanksgiving. I felt horrible. I am back to 100% red meat and have no intention of changing anytime soon.

This is why I trust Shawn Baker: His self identity is not wrapped up in the Carnivore diet. He would ditch it tomorrow if shown to be unhealthy. He speaks about these nutritional ideas in a calm way, as opposed to many health experts who throw insults, getting upset when presented with conflicting information, using words like "ridiculous" "absurd" "stupid". Because their diet is their identity, and they feel threatened. Carnivore is not Dr Baker's identity. Health and truth is what he cares about, so he's not close minded, or stuck in a corner. I get this feeling not so much from what he's saying about the diet, but more just the way he speaks and carries himself.

I have struggled with some pretty nagging health issues (chronic fatigue syndrome, chemical sensitivity etc.) and going carnivore has really helped a lot of my symptoms. I have seen minor improvements with my libido but that could take more time to see vast improvement. That could be due to the fact that my digestive system had been compromised and it needs more time to heal. To be honest I have heard the complete opposite from other people. This Dr. makes some damn good points I never thought about before. People are always hungry cause they never eat enough nutrients so they're only temporarily full because they put something in their stomach with no nutrition.
@joshuawhitley58194 жыл бұрын
Honestly that’s not quite how the body works. The human body doesn’t recognize whether or not it is full based on nutrient value absorbed into the blood stream. It has more to do with the volume that the food takes up in your stomach. Steak for example is an extremely dense food when compared to say a family sized bag of Doritos. You can sit down and eat the entire bag and still feel hungry because the corn chips take up very little volume within the stomach, but it would likely be extremely difficult to eat the calorie equivalent in steak because the density of the food is much higher and takes much longer to digest.

Outstanding remission rates have been achieved with semi-vegetarian diets (1/2 serving of fish once a week, 1/2 serving of other meat every 2 weeks): nutritionfacts.org/video/achieving-remission-of-crohns-disease/ 100% remission across 1 year and 92% remission across 2 years is pretty good, don't you think? In general animal protein is linked to inflammatory bowel diseases--animal fat and protein cause a decrease in beneficial bacteria in the intestines and an increase in less healthy populations of bacteria. On the prevention side, high intakes of fat and meat are linked to greater risk of getting Crohn's and ulcerative colitis whereas high intakes of fruit and fiber in general are linked to lower rates of Crohn's disease: nutritionfacts.org/video/preventing-crohns-disease-with-diet/ People who ate the most fiber had the lowest risk of Crohn's in one of the largest studies, and of course, fiber only comes from plant foods. But these people didn't still didn't eat enough fiber, and it's telling that in populations eating LOTS of whole plant foods, these digestive problems are almost entirely nonexistent. Take care.

Sounds crazy, but absolutely true. I have EDS and one of the symptoms has always been chronic back pain. I used to take high levels of vitamin c (like bowel tolerance levels...) to reduce the pain, but on a carnivore diet I don't have any back or joint pain and no longer supplement any vitamin c. However, those times that I occasionally eat carbs, like a piece of cake at a birthday party, or a slice of pizza for a special occasion, my back pain returns within 20 minutes and the joints in my fingers begin to swell and ache. I suspect this has something to do with the relationship between glucose and vitamin c. When I was eating a high carb standard western diet I needed high levels of vitamin c, essentially blocking some of the glucose. Now that I'm carnivore I don't need the vitamin c as long as I keep the carbs low. There have been many other benefits, but this has been one of the more interesting aspects.
@stevejoshua95365 жыл бұрын
That comment caught my attention. I once tried to fast while eating just vegetables for about a week. My back started hurting within just 2 days, and I normally never have back problems, not even when I do strict 21-day water fasts. Emotionally as well, I would rather cease than return to my prior state of health. I don't recommend eating, like this. It's only worth it for me due to the cognitive, emotional and physical benefits. Maybe It's not worth it to you, due to the eating and social sacrifice. 1:33:49 Hospitals are a business. They aren't a health facility. Theyll do business with you, and do what they specialize in if you go to their facility. But, they aren't in the business of health.(Your) good health is bad for (their) business. Effective and efficient self-governance over ones health is tantamount to cancer for the hospital business industry.

@@mylestheprocrastinator9358 I'm not knocking the people who work in Hospitals. There are plenty of great people with great intentions working in Hospitals. Many who are really smart people, n who are sincerely dedicated to helping their patients get well. I'm just saying that Hospitals have a business model. It's an industry. As I understand it, western medicine focuses their studies on disease rather then on health. Hospitals and their doctors are trained to work with pharmaceuticals. Pharmacology is a central part of the hospital business model. Pharmaceuticals can certainly help people, but they typically arent the solution, at the root. Pharmacology is a dependency program for its patience. While, health and self care/self governance come from a proactive healthy habit lifestyle. That includes healthy diet such as a variety of whole foods, lots of water, eliminating unnatural, processed, junk foods, moderate exercise, healthy psychological habits, etc. But, no disrespect intended towards Hospital staff; they have saved multiple loved ones throughout the years, and probably saved my own life more than once.
@mylestheprocrastinator93584 жыл бұрын
Kibbie Lou hospitals must keep people out of hospital otherwise there is huge, huge pressure on the health system and it flows up to the political system. Yes hospitals are invested in people’s heath, and even if you take a cynical view on why, they still do their best to keep the community healthy. Health professionals do not push pharmaceuticals anywhere near like you imply. I am a senior health care professional in a very busy public hospital. Don’t talk nonsense. We take a holistic approach to patient care, which includes social aspects, exercise, nutrition etc, etc, etc. that happens in most areas in most wards. In fact many patients want pharmacological interventions but we do not take this approach. By all means have your say but don’t talk rubbish. You have no idea what you’re saying.
@1StepForwardToday4 жыл бұрын
@@mylestheprocrastinator9358 I didnt say that doctors are "pushing" pharmaceuticals. I said that they are trained to study disease rather than health. And, they are trained to treat people with pharmaceuticals. Pharmacology/pharmaceuticals are central to their training, and central to the hospital business model industry. Yes, there are plenty of great hospital staff/professionals with fantastic intentions. That doesnt change the fact that hospitals are a business. And, "pharmacology" is central to their business model, (not nutrition and exercise).

Lost 3st in 6 months. Cravings gone. Eat mostly 1Ib of ground beef, sometimes a couple of sausages as well, daily and liver at least once a week. Varied the meats at the beginning but now happy on home made grilled beefburgers, find them satiating. Occasionally I top them with a little cheese. Don't like eggs otherwise I would be inclined to include them. Eat twice a day usually 11am and between 5 and 7 pm Always start the day with apple cider vinegar and lemon in warm water. I drink water the rest of the time and occasionally drink tea or coffee.Cutting out junk food has saved quite a lot of money so I don't find eating this way expensive and is now more of a lifestyle than a diet. I have far more energy and feel great. I used to be a carb addict but eating this way has broken the addiction thankfully. Highly recommend this way of eating as I am now eating real food and not processed junk.

@@sixthsense11100 That's not a doctor... He is just a chiropractic... I mean, real doctors have zero nutritional education too. But the fact he pretends to be a real doctor kinda takes away the credibility. If you look at the descriptions under his videos and scroll aaaaall the way down, he admits he is not a real doctor... But you need to look for it. That's kinda scammy...

3 weeks after becoming a carnivore I walked into a convenience store and had an epiphany. Every single thing they sell is poison. Every single thing they sell is wrapped in pretty packages. They have studied human weaknesses and even the crinkle in the packaging is to satisfy human stimulations. The color, the crunch, the salt, the sugar, the fats, The layers if the packaging, the lighting, the lines to wait, the order and juxtaposition of the items. The Caffeine, The Nicotine. All of it. Poison. Ya know what doesnt come in a shiny colorful package? Meatfat. They cut it off and throw it away. When we do not consume it we crave all the color and crinkle!

@Joe Kill There's only a grain of salt in that statement. The only time calories will effect your weight is when your literally starving to death and your getting near zero calories. The only thing that typically effects body weight is the ratio of hormones in your body typically insulin. The only reson we have come to believe that calories induce weight gain is due to the fact that typically when a person eats high calorie foods they are eating HIGHLY processed junk that is loaded with carbs and sugar and thereby increase insulin levels which creates a *correlation* between caloric intake and weight gain. Thus creating the illusion that increased caloric intake increases weight gain. However if your not eating junk and your eating high quality foods such as the fatty parts of red meat you can literally eat as much as you want and your body will automatically increase caloric deficits in proportion to your calories (for instance your body may burn more energy for heat so on so forth). If you want an in depth explanation on any of this stuff I'd highly recommend reading up on Gary Taubes. His explanations on the topic are phenomenal.

let's not think in black and white - there are quite a few things that contribute to chronic health diseases, and designating carbohydrates as the bogeyman is a dangerous oversimplification. There are healthy people who eat carbohydrates, and there are cases in which chronic disease is probably caused by sedentary lifestyles, etc. Don't narrow your mind.

Joint pain is more complicated than just carbs. I’m on STRICT Keto. Pain down 80%. Ate olives last night and woke up barely able to walk with painful feet. Also, for me, having a “cheat day” just increases my cravings for carbs and makes it harder. I’ve adjusted very quickly to eating protein with a lot of fat and some greens.
