@@I_discovered_civilization If triggered means getting angry over a comment or tweet, then you can't say only the left get triggered. I get angry, not triggered if that makes you happy. I don't have complete control over my emotions like any adult. I love hearing different ideas.
@I_discovered_civilization5 жыл бұрын
Christian Johnston that’s not what triggered means. It means being aroused or having an emotional response to a traumatic experience. It describes the left because they coined the term “trigger words” to warn their audience of a topic that could trigger a response usually due to a discussion about race gender sexual abuse rape etc on college campuses. Of course the left can’t meme so they try to use the terms that describe them and apply it where it doesn’t exist.

Sage Bias It's not about sticking one's head in the sand. In the end, any social media platform is just a product, and one has to ask themselves: is it a product I want to use, and what do I want to use it for? Me, I stopped using facebook once I realized all my friends communicate by phone or whatsapp (so I'm not even boycotting the facebook company, I just don't use facebook itself). And twitter? Well, for getting information any normal person with a regular job and a family can probably do without it, at least for information. Any information outlet that updates once per day will be totally fine for any of us. What do any of us care whether or not it "changes global politics"? We have to go to work, we have to get the kids from school and go shop for groceries. We're not going to stop doing any of this, no matter what Trump (or anyone) tweets.

Well bodylanguage can be manipulative. So as voice. I prefer reading^^
@hauntedbytheliving11754 жыл бұрын
@Benny Axelrod: Respectfully, by that rational spoken and ESPECIALLY written words can be lies, too... only more easy to hide. Written is the least reliable because the individual has more times to craft their message and doesn’t have to think on their feet which requires them to either speak honestly or to lie on the spot which is easier to read. So by your logic what’s the value of investigating at all if you want to give them every chance to avoid discovery? The reason James R has a valid point is because the more streams of information you have available the more patterns can emerge and the more an individual is exposed the more difficult it is to hide. This is simple deduction backed by the testimony of experts when they discuss interviews/investigations. When body language experts are asked if they fear revealing the “tells” they look for publicly will just help liars/manipulators learn how to evade them, they say no because it’s impossible to conduct the symphony of manipulating all the tells at once and behave naturally. Even if you knew what to control the effort would be Herculean and there are even methods to throw those efforts off course, like changing the stream of conversation etc. This behavior is anticipated and countered methodically. I held a position where I had to interview many candidates which lead me to studying professional interviewing methods. None said there was less advantage to having more information... It sounds like a clever observation that body language could leave you more open to persuasion and could actually hinder/inform your data collection, but just a moment more scrutiny and/or experience in these realms and what seemed clever and insightful can be plainly identified as unengaged, incomplete, inadequate and intellectually corrupt. It sounds harsh but I feel I can say this because I’ve identified and continue to identify these lazier thought and communication habits in myself... self honesty and improvement is like gardening; seasonal and never ending but highly necessary to avoid entropy from within. I’m not accusing you of anything I’m not guilty of so please don’t take too much offense. One of the snares one sets as an interrogator IS PRECISELY TO OBSERVE if the individual attempts to persuade you because it can help reveal their process and intent. So hell yes, you want to see them if possible and experience every dimension to their deceit. Someone can lie or omit truth but the shape of the holes in the tapestry they weave leaves a “silhouette” of the truth... so even that negative space left by their machinations reveals and offers a higher resolution/definition to the truth you can surmise. Love and respect to you and anyone who should read this

Liam Neeson - This man had the courage and voluntarily confessed about a dark moment in his life and is being crucified by a lot of people that also has some secrets, but aren’t brave enough to go public and say it. Many of his critics eventually go to a wood box and confess to a preacher away from everybody and act like God’s son, thinking they have the right to judge others. that was a honest honorable confession. I didn’t even knew the name of this actor but now I became a big fan of his personality.

The funniest and most ironic thing about this podcast is the comments people are leaving. Instead of taking in the discussion, people are doing exactly what they're talking about. Being irrational, pointing out terms, and phrases that have no ill will or evil intent. They're talking about making things more civil and that pisses people off. Duh.

So I don’t understand the issue with Elon smoking weed on his down time in a state where it’s legal. If someone has an issue with it that’s their problem not his. I will never understand why people think they are so self important that they need to bring everyone down to their own personal shame.
@bforty795 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of that blow back was from network / MSM type sources, who could never land such an interview and felt threatened, then started a narrative to poo-poo the "sloppy podcast format". Also knee-jerk stock market kooks who freak out every day over nothing, then double back down the next day (as was literally the case here).

Depends on what kind of drug policies his companies have in place. I might be wrong but I seem to remember a story about some chick who was at Tesla and was making noise about trying to form a union after only 4 months of employment apparently was let go because of a contested failed drug test... of course, it would be outrageous to consider what Elon Musk did a violation, but sometimes thats how companies do.

I don't know why they made those comments. In my opinion, the comment sections on YT or even Facebook on well-informed discussions are usually pretty good. They are not at the level that Sam Harris would have been able to write himself, if he were to do that, but they are certainly not cesspools. Not everyone are as informed and eloquent as those who's featured in a podcast that goes out to millions. They are just the average man, basically, interested in what others have to say, and also wanting to express how they feel about the issue too. And they do so with competence and ineptness... but this is also how people actually learn (look at Jordan Peterson for this - if you are not willing to be a fool you can't be a master). I think the main reason Joe and Sam want's to draw boundaries here is because of the perceived pressure from the LEFT (which includes almost all of media, and therefore almost everything). Joe and Sam are more outspoken and critical to mainstream narratives than almost anyone, yet they are still relatively palatable for most of the media and it's audience. But they are also under heavy attack and suspicion by some. So to stay BIG, relevant and avoid being thrown into the fires of controversy completely, they need to draw these boundaries to people "farer out than themselves". And these are commonly the white supremacists and right wingers (which I'm never sure what actually mean) and now also the comment sections. There is a meme among the left-wing establishment of culture now that any comment section on KZbin or Facebook under a non-left-wing or a-political content is only filled with hate, racism and sexism. So by bringing this up and distancing themselves firmly from these "bad people" by shitting on them, they are persevering in the bigger picture of relevance. And of course, I would give both of these guys a lot of credit for everything they have done in terms of speaking honestly and standing for ideals they believe in for so long, but in the end, they are not "Gods" of moral integrity or impartial rationality. They too have a fragile life embedded in the huge system that is society and culture. They too are susceptible to bribes like popularity and money (I think this is more obvious for Joe Rogan than Sam Harris btw, lol).

It was so heartening to know that Elon Musk, the real life version of Iron Man, the flesh and blood Tony Stark, feels as overwhelmed as the rest of us, and like the rest of us, has trouble sleeping, and just like the rest of us, gets up and does his workload on a day anyway. He is more of an intellectual hero to me now, than he ever was before I saw that side of him.

Ya I dont think sam knows enough to deride her. The fact that he wants a businessman to run proves his out of touch with left. The left needs a economic populist and anti-war activist like gabbard.
@ilg20125 жыл бұрын
Sam Harris can't afford to give any legitimacy to Gabbard's position on Syria or Assad, hence why he said those things about Gabbard. Gabbard essentially has taken a position pushed by Russia and denied by US govt. and virtually all Republicans AND Democrats. So Gabbard's position is extremist and would make Harris look foolish/conspiratorial.@@james192599

Unfortunately there's too much propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation on both sides of the Syria/Assad controversy to come to an informed and reasonable opinion. Unless you speak Arabic and have close friends/family in Syria who know about all the different players/issues of that conflict, any opinion you have is based on what you've been told by either US or Russian backed propaganda. Simple as that. With that said, from all the research I did on the Syrian civil war, the Russian propaganda was more persuasive than the US propaganda.
@james1925995 жыл бұрын
@@ilg2012 Gabbards position is considered extremist but it should not be who cares whether Assad is a bad guy or a good guy. We as americans should not force our interest on other governments specifically in Syria. It's a philosophy of non-interventionism, we should focus on our domestic economy and improving our citizens lives rather than bombing another countries citizens to in theory check another power.

Basicly your expectations weren't met, the problem is that your expectations were wrong. You wanted to see someone get grilled in a interview. I'm not defending Jack Dorsy, I personally dislike twitter and all that it entails, but you have to be cognizant about the fact that Joe is not working on a political agenda; he just has conversations with people. Joe isn't always right and he's not the smartest guy around, he has all kinds of people over on this podcast and in my experience he's never prone to putting someone on the spot, he usually sways towards neutrality and kindness, even when he's been in disagreements with people he defaults to neutrality to keep the conversation going and to try and please his mixed viewership... which can be frustrating if you're highly opinionated. There's other channels and people that can meet your specific expectations if that's what you're after.
