Astute..it's the same today and why wouldn't it be the nature given brain network abilities and personality traits remain now same as then, moral foundations measure that anyone's leftist belief point toward a low moral human and conservative belief points to the more evolutionarily typical human, libertarians have much the same low innate (genetically endowed) morality/empathy as does leftists just differently applied.

Sam at 55:10: "These are problems that should be easy to solve, but they're really not. And the fact that we can't actually talk about them without getting 'defenestrated'..." Did anyone else pause to consult their dictionary? Defenestration: Act of throwing out through a window. Sam's great.

That's the literal definition and rarely used. Sam is using it here with the more modern definition of the act of dismissing someone from a position of authority. His sentence could be read like this: The fact that people can't actually talk about them without being dismissed from their positions of authority is a layer of the problem I'm convinced we have to solve.

While Bill's contrarian views have in some instances been a positive influence, he also ventures farther into certainty than is ideal for a healthy society. This is where I find Sam's willingness to embrace the process of information gathering with personal humility more refreshing and sustainable.
@philippedefague3835

Science is logical is all about certainty and wanting certainty is ideal for society. If you are using a linear metric for idealism, then you believe in some kind of objective truth over falsehood. It's not something that grows when more layers of evidence are provided, it's either correct or it's incorrect. You probably believe in gender theory lol

I don't mean this rudely. I'm sure you are fine individual. I don't even like Sam all that much, let alone agree with him a whole lot, compared to when I found him nearly a decade ago, but I worry that there are capable worthwhile citizens such as yourself out there who haven't listened at some length to people like Sam Harris, or who are just discovering him now. Not just Sam, but all of the people in the "alternative" sphere that is somewhat difficult to define while self evident and obviously worthwhile voices of our age. Sam and others like them are fairly prolifically represented as a guest on an incredible number of podcasts and shows on the internet for an entire decade at this point. He's almost impossible to miss, provided you consume any of the extensive catalog of worthwhile free speech earnest modern media, and not just corrupt corporate mental junk food. Not knowing who Sam Harris is before November 2022 is jarring to hear. Again, I apologize if that seems rude, but it needs to be said. I hope this sparks a curiosity to come along for the ride. Better late than never. Again, I'm not even a big Sam Harris fan, his day in the sun was pre-2016 for sure. And there's a reason for that, as we all collectively get to know people's thought process and opinions over time. He has been found lacking by his greater audience over time, so it's ironic Bill loves him so much. Such is life, we evolve, as does the zeitgeist. You have plenty of happy work to do and I actually envy you similar to the envy one has for someone who has yet to watch your favorite movie because they get to watch it with fresh eyes.

He couldn’t b more off about covid. He sounds ridiculous. Two words: specialized & preventative…… As in specialized medicine & preventative medicine. Theses r the 2 pillars in the foundation of U.S. medicine. Suggesting every MD should have equal value applied to their opinion regarding every medical issue is ridiculous. Then, to suggest people should just get sick instead of using the vaccine, again silly & goes against our entire medical objective. Finally, his personal assessment that as a 70 year old man who smokes, claiming covid is not a serious threat is absolutely absurd & naive.

Sam went easy on him. Also, he never understood the point Sam made about Giuliani manipulating the information time line to effect the election. Who cares that we heard it after the election when the person dropping the story (Giuliani) in the first place is attempting to manipulate the election? They (Republicans) did it successfully against Hillary & then they got blocked the second time around against Biden. Heres an idea, how about Republicans win an election on the strength of their candidate instead of muddying the waters 10 days prior to every election? Then no one needs to worry if info or stories r being suppressed.

@@friedricengravy6646 I agree with your assessment. I appreciate that Bill has self-focus on building immunity with his healthy eating, etc. as I started into nutrition, yoga meditation, etc. in 1973 as a kid. Was vegetarian/vegan a few years but as things evolved it proved not to be the best balance. My profession is with environmental business, designing 45+ years eco-communities, organic farms, food systems, restoring natural habitats and have a team of 8-10 people for that, all with degrees from architecture to naturopathic doctor. With that understanding for improving the ecology its when combining plants and animals together, when done properly is the most sustainable, contrary to what the current marketing of "eat veggies save the environment" has many people believing. On COVID though, I had three relatives succumb to it and did not survive. I have relatives and know several nurses who were on the front lines and very upset with Bill's mindset during the pandemic. I managed to dodge it for 2.5 years until just 2 months ago.....with one day of mild symptoms and in just a few hours of several of my work helpers being in the office (before I got a test) and I tested right there with two of the instant tests and it was positive. All went to masks and went home but, just from that brief exposure in the same office all tested positive and had symptoms the next day and one's spouse got it the day after that. If people wanted to "exercise their freedom" as Bill describes then fine.....just stay home and don't go near anyone. Anyone trying to deal with what to do about Covid as it spread had a hard job.

He added that's why he wants to end free speech. These are the people who brainwash the sheep to hate Trump. Funny enough, the TDS sheep don't realize the reason why they hate Trump is because they were brainwashed by liars like Harris. Even when you show them what a pathetic hate-filled shill Harris is, they will still support him because he supports their TDS, not realizing their TDS was created by lying shills like him in the first place.

@@clarkpalace That's exactly the point, you can't "zig or zag" when they are mandating you to comply or you can't fly on a plane or even get a job. People think this is somehow a great idea, not realizing that it's only about vaxx today, but it will be about mandating you to do many other things in the future. We should not be allowing them to open this pandora's box of mandating compliance in anything.

Maher is correct about Harris' word selection. I first discovered Harris in 2006 when I read Dawkins' book The God Delusion. There are a few excerpts in there from Harris' first two books, and I remember being stunned by the clarity and accuracy of those excerpts. I became a fan immediately.

@@godisbollocks Is it? Or is your ego too rigid to accept new ideas and explore?? I propose the latter. EDIT: Sam Harris is a douchebag. Eban Alexander is a neuroscientist with a far higher IQ than Sammy, used to be an atheist, had a near death experience, and now understands. I believe the man's written a best selling book or 2 as well.

Almost a great conversation with 2 intelligent people. Sam patiently listens to Bill and Bill continues to interrupt anything that sounds contrary to his own opinion. Covid effected comedians like Mar and Rogan so personally by bringing their lifes passion to a screeching halt. I watched it shift them both from a more moderate stance to an anti science and government one. Sam was not saying things were handled well only that they didn't have the luxury of hindsight.
