If that is indeed ground up asbestos Joe bought to rub between his fingers when playing pool so "the shaft slides through easier" i recommend finding an alternative immediately. Asbestos is safe until broken or ground up as it's the fibers getting in your lungs that causes mesothelioma. Once the fibers get in there they stay forever and don't come out as they're shaped like tiny little needles. My Grandmother died a nasty, painful death from mesothelioma and got it just from washing clothes that had the fibers on them, my Grandfather worked with it, again before they knew how dangerous it is, and to answer Redban's question; always will be.
