Joe Rogan Experience #995 - Jon Ronson 0:05 Welcomes Jon Ronson back onto the show 00:30 Jon talks about his series following a young man named Fabian Tillman and how he started Pornhub 2:45 Talking about how it is difficult for porn workers to get bank accounts due to their reputation possible impacting the banks reputation 5:00 Joe talks about a porn producer her knew that lived down the street from him and was just this baller guy and then when pornhub and the internet blew up he lost his house and the porn bubble burst 7:45 Talking about how Fabian deals in pirated materials and how is that legal and then Jon explains how it is a website that offers a service for people to upload whatever so it is not technically Fabians fault, they talk about piracy in general for a few minutes 13:25 Talking about how Fabian changed the landscape for porn and made it so that porn has to be easily searched for and porn films are now made off of most searched terms and what pops up in search engines the most 15:20 How the tech takeover of porn has increased escort services in the valley moving into “bespoke porn” custom made porn videos from people making any sort of requests 18:25 Talking about a Norwegian man who spent 40 years collecting stamps and ordered a custom made porno of 3 naked women in the valley destroying his stamp collection, they talk about his inspirations for it 24:00 Talking about radical honesty groups and a specific group where a man talked about he killed a man by pushing him out of car and running him over and the next lady said she had sex with her cat then the murder raised his hand and said he had sex with his cat as well, Joe said guy may have been a BS artist 26:20 Jon talks about the exploitation in porn and how people do not want to know the names of porn stars and likens it to how when you kill a dear you do not name it because then you would not want to eat it, it is hard to degrade someone when they are named 28:25 Talking about a porn worker Dom knew that vented on twitter about not having work and shitty times then suddenly stopped and started talking about being happy just to make a better image to get more work 29:30 Joe wonders why the porn industry has this strange shame behind it when everyone wants to fuck and everyone wants to watch each other fuck 33:30 Talking about a book that had a racist character that a blogger took out of context and acted as if that character actively portrayed the authors point of view 37:00 Talking about this strange new thing were white authors are being told to not include characters of color in their stories because it is not their place and they do not know how to portray them (that does not make sense to me, trying to be inclusive and make it have diverse characters is somehow negative) 39:00 Talking about some of the reasons behind why Trump was elected 46:00 talking about how harassment on social media comes from all sides but there is a difference between harassment being contrary to someone’s ideas 48:25 Talking about how there is bullying on the internet and how Jon was asked to help write an article about bullying on the internet and how men bully women and Jon pointed out that while it is more men bullying women it does go both ways and the women editor he said this to rolled her eyes 50:00 talking about how people that fall in the middle and want to have some sort of discourse and find a middle ground get lost in the conversation between the loud and extreme left and loud and extreme right and how things “ 5have” to fall into some sort of niche 52:45 Joe talking about how her personally thinks there should be some sort of universal healthcare, moving into how strange it is that people will caricaturize you and judge you off of one thing 55:30 Alex Jones conversation and what is going on between him and Trump 58:00 Talking about Bohemian Grove and when Jon and Alex both went to it and how Alex Jones thought Jon was luring him to be sacrificed so went in separately from him 1:04:00 Talking about how Alex Jones makes everything crazier than it is 1:06:00 How there are people who look for conspiracies in everything, even things that are easy to explain and these people think also think the government is filled with idiots, it can’t be both ways. 1:08:00 conversation about Megan Kelly moving to MSNBC and how strange it is for such a conservative personality moved to such a liberal network 1:12:30 Talking about the dangers of convincing everyone that everything is a conspiracy theory is that they ignore things that are actual conspiracies because we cannot tell what is real 1:16:00 Comes back to Alex Jones video that started them talking about Kathie Griffin and her having the decapitated Trump photoshops. 1:21:00 A real conspiracy that Alex Jones uncovered called Agent Provocateurs when the government sends in people to start riots so they can send in people to stop the riots that they started 1:24:45 Talking about some early conspiracy theorists that moved to Ruby Creek and often spoke with and worked with the Aryan Nations, though they were not Aryan Nation people themselves and how they were being watched by the FBI because they would not snitch for the FBI and how it escalated. 1:30:00 Jon talks about the time he went to the Aryan Nations and almost got the shit kicked out of him because they (correctly) pegged him as a Jew 1:34:00 Talking about how Alex Jones has grown and changed so much since the 90’s 1:36:30 They pull up a video of Joey Diaz on the Alex Jones show talking about how every 4 years we do the same shit and vote for the same people every 4 years and they keep fucking us 1:38:00 Talking about how Alex Jones got in trouble with Chobani for saying they import migrant rapists as well as pizza gate 1:40:00 Jon talks about how weird it is he is such an anxious person but puts himself in crazy situations like interviewing jihadist camps 1:43:00 Talking about the men who stare at goats and how Jon found out about it 1:48:35 Talking about martial artists bullshit artists and how they use different technical sounding words to make their crap sound real 1:55:45 Talking about remote viewing and the time Joe was on a sci-fi show and they did a test with the guy who claimed to be a remote viewer 2:00:10 Talking about when these fake death touch guys fight real MMA fighters and get the shit kicked out of them and show some video examples for the next few minutes 2:05:05 Talking about some of the other things being done while the men who stare at goats stuff was happening such as the gay bomb, the halitosis bomb, making attack bees 2:09:00 Jon talks about how all these people he knew from 20 years ago that he met at this Jihadist training camp have gone on to become suicide bombers or have become leaders in other Jihadist movements 2:12:50 Talking about how people who fight in MMA or train in MMA are attracted to extreme behavior in general as well as not being averse to violence. 2:17:00 Talking about the butterfly effect of pornhub and free pornography spreading across the internet in general, such as how children can just find pornhub and learn about sex now days 2:19:00 Talking about an autistic boy Nathan who did not know how to communicate with a women and did not know how to communicate properly and is now on the sex offender registry and he is a virgin, this conversation continues for a few minutes and also includes story of a young boy getting charged as a sex offender because him and a girl were playing a stupid child game where they got naked in the dark and then flipped the lights on, he stayed naked, she complained to her parents, he got charged, what the fuck? 2:24:14 Jon talking about how the most popular porn is step-whatever porn and talks about the time he was on set for step-daughter cheerleader orgy 2:27:00 Joe talking about a friend he had that had a porn worker girlfriend and could not handle it because of the time she was complaining about how she had to do anal all day, then he talks about another friend with a porn worker girlfriend who read her contract asked “What does this air tight mean” and learned it meant a dick in every hole and he checked out. 2:30:00 Joe questions more about why it so taboo for people to be in porn when all healthy people want to fuck and a lot of people watch porn, they also talk about how much more likely it is for porn people to be recognized now days so much easier than in the past because of the internet. The rest of the podcast follows on this point and wraps up with how Jon hopes people in porn become more accepted as a butterfly effect of pornhub and Jon mentions his series The Butterfly Effect available on audible Enjoy the show and be well you freaks

29:28 "why is it that everyone wants to have sex but if you have sex on film and everyone gets to watch there's shame? It's a weird little side effect of our civilization." In my opinion Joe has his thinking backwards here. The feeling of shame is not created by our civilization, the feeling of shame is what helped build our civilization. Humans are social creatures that have to put value on their interactions, you just couldn't have a social organism that didn't and so you also have to assign a value to privacy. When you go to take a shit you want privacy because it helps you retain a sense of dignity when you come back out to join other people again. While most people also want to have sex we clothe ourselves to give ourselves dignity in a non private social setting. When you take the privacy aspect of sex away it's inherently though of as a social taboo just as it would be if you were with a group of friends walking and you just stopped, pulled down you pants and squatted to shit. Yes it's a normal healthy bodily function but you're supposed to have the common social sense to recognize and manage it. If you do have sex with someone else in a public setting this can be a turn on for the two people since it breaks a taboo, when you let others watch two people having sex in public it's an affront to society and our civilization like shitting in the middle of your neighborhood Mc Donalds.

All of life is like this. People find it hard to not eventually disrespect those they know are in porn. Kyubey D Can I be clear with you? I prefer Hollywood movies to pornography. A well oiled narrative is a better aphrodisiac than months and months of footage of people involved in the most intimiate act available. Disguise is elegant and respectable decency is the preclude to real life action instead of people in darkened rooms lapping up their loneliness.

@@owenhunt u right but I don't think it's because of a paywall, more so something people put effort in and need to be paid. Other information that doesn't have those restraints would technically be more ethical to be free I guess. Actually I don't know why pornhub doesn't do the same thing as youtube. There is really good/strong moderation, and everyone has an official channel so less people would actually want to reupload, perhaps making it easier to control, and it could be properly monetized for creators, from what I understand

Incredibly interesting guest. Ronson is intensely interested in several subjects involving human behavior. I've read quite a few of his books. All well researched. A talented author. He reminds me of Malcolm Gladwell. And as another commenter has said, he sounds like Stewie.

Joe makes great shows but this fanbase is just the worse. Jon in this episode says a bunch of interesting things, I mean honestly incredibly fascinating things and all this fanbase can do is complain and criticise his looks and his ideology even though he reveals almost nothing ideologically. I understand Joe's podcast attracts a lot of right wing listeners and that's fine, but it would be a lot cooler if you could just be more tolerant to those who have different views to yours.
@seanpadraigobrien12605 жыл бұрын

I have to laugh at the left,right wing listeners are indeed more tolerant to different views just not the crap the left peddles,those on the left should try critiquing themselves, you never know they might end up in the real world.

what makes criticism of a white guy from people, that you are assuming are white, racist?
@WhatIsMyPorpoise5 жыл бұрын
In general video comment sections, a trend I notice is the presence of trolls after the video is published. In the beginning trolls get attention and therefore “dominate” those comment sections. However, as time passes, it is always the people complaining of the trolls and actual nicer comments with more depth that get the more attention. When you look at that, you see that comment sections do represent the fan bases: the trolls come first to gain attention and be loud but time passes by and they become a mere shadow.
