It also really outs things into perspective. People are so quick to idolize the elite of the elite, but even though they contribute heavily at the end of the day, it is still the grunts and support guys who have to get out there and do the occupying, the building, the re-building, and unfortunately most of the dying. SF/SOF guys will tell you this all day long. The war doesn't get won without the occupying force.

He also has his own podcast. He knows when to talk and when not to and how to keep a conversation going so he’s developed this skill with his own show. Look up his interviews with Mike Thornton or Rose Schindler (from Schindler’s List) to see his range. I don’t know if I could do intense 3 1/2 hour conversations without a break. For me it’s pretty inspiring to see their focus and mental discipline. I stopped making excuses for myself after listening to Jocko’s podcasts.

Quite the interesting thought that this was done in 2015. Obama last year. As soon as he left office... ISIS is absolutely gone in like a year. I forgot they even existed. I am posting this in 2020. Bone chilling how easy it was but how it was allowed for years.

Ramadi is where my ex husband was in 2003 for 18 months and he doesn't really talk about it other than to say it was nothing nice he is a marine or was and joined immediately after 9/11 like end of 2002 beginning of 2003 so he was there in the worst time possible dealing with ptsd now 17/18 years later... Thank you for your service Jocko and to the rest of the veterans out there 🇺🇸

Not "was", is*..... Once a Marine, always a Marine... I am beyond grateful for his service. Personally I dont think I could do it after having become a father back in 2017. Just thinking about leaving my son, potentially never coming back and the pain of not being there to raise him gets my head all f'd up. His mom and I have been separated for 2 years but this kid will always be my rock and I his. To be able to push that kinda shit deep down, man the fk up and put patriotic duty above all else? I dont think I could stomach it nowadays. Therefore, I hold those Men and Women who do in the highest regard. 18-27 year old me, who was just enjoying dating around and having fun, that guy had an iron heart with no concern over fear of death and a carelessness that I didn't notice at the time. The day my son was born, something somewhere inside me began to change. Sounds cliche but it's the gods honest truth. Maybe it wasn't so much a flip of a switch (as some people tend to say) but more likely gradually over that first initial bonding period. Whatever the internal rewiring that occurred, it changed me. It softened me up something serious. People say that shit but you dont know till you know. Anyways I'm not sure why I felt the need to type all this cause I'm definitely getting off topic but I'm too deep to be hitting backspace now so I'm leaving it. Lol Please tell your husband I thank him for his service. Despite the current admins blunder the changes that were made during the struggle were not made in vain in the eyes of those liberated. That was clear to be seen in the videos of the exfil. This also goes for anyone else who has selflessly served our Country though. Thank you for your service.

1:06 tells the story of war. Jocko seems to be made of granite, he just has the look of the hardened commando....and he is. To see how he is momentarily transported back to the battlefield in Ramadi and recognized the extraordinary actions of our military people who weren't necessarily the highly trained spec op military fighters and how he called them amazing heroes put a lump in my throat and gave me chills. It makes so proud to be American and grateful for our military members.

@@vincealince_SRT, I think you're mis-reading what I'm saying. To answer your question, yes and no. I'm tired of the division. Between you and I, I HATED it even within the Marine Corps. Everyone's MOS is the best, and everyone else is an idiot. That irritated the $#!+ out of me when I was trying to get support for combat missions. Everyone had an axe to grind. It was worse between Services, and even worse between us and SPECOPS. It plagued me for 20 years. Jocko's sentiment, which I have heard many times, feels like a bridge over a deep void.

As of this podcast, I am currently 75 years old. I served in Viet Nam as an Army Ranger from 1968-1971, as part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade (Separate), with the 74th LRPS and 75th Rangers. I have also served as a Senior Consultant on 4 separate occassions in Basra and Erbil, Iraq. I served in the Tiger Mountains in Viet Nam with fighting being face-to-face or within a grenade toss from the opposing forces. I don't refer to them as my enemy as they had their job to do as I had mine. Although it has been more than 50 years since I fought in The Republic of Viet Nam, sights, sounds, smells and memories remain with me as a reminder of the young man I was and the role I undertook to keep my team members alive and hopefully return home to a better life. I too, believe that that time of my life was the best time of my life. Senses were maximized. To end a fire fight with everyone on my team alive and unscaved was a time for thanks to the Creator, return to the rear for re-supply and preparedness for another mission. There is nothing to compare to the high of living after a fire fight and impossible to explain to the majority of people who have never and will never experience the madness, chaos and wonder of being alive after a battle. Cheers,

Joe Rogan is 100% correct when it comes to his 9/11 comment. For a whole generation of kids 9/11 mine as well be how Vietnam, Korea or WW2 was to many, just another event to remember in history class. I was born in 1993 which made me 8 when it happened and I still don’t remember everything.

5 years later and we see how much this podcast influenced others to share their story. Many former SEALs have become voices in the media. Thank you JRE and Jocko for setting the stage for others. @Mike Drop is my favorite to have been born from this interview. 7 years after this interview and youtube does you justice, at least on my end. Even while i fall asleep. I wake up to an episode. I hope them to be new episodes. Many are ones I've seen, knew I've seen it 10 times already, but watch again. So, for the older episodes like this coming up , more than often seemingly, I'm getting the older ones. 7+ years. See, my problem with the JRE, isn't that I don't know how many I have seen. The problem how many haven't I seen. It's more like. -How many haven't I seen and which host is on and what the topic is, although, Joe is very good at making almost anything at least interesting enough to keep us entertained for 2 to 4 hours per episode. Now I hear he does 2 shows in one day sometimes. Even 3. Then he has his Comedy Club, "family", Several Work outs. He's got new activities he gets involved with each week, even though he barely has the time to do this. But yeah, I watch, sleep, background noise in my home probably has Joe Rogan in the back ground. lol. UFC fights, highlights. Hilarious when you listen to lists of knock outs. You've got 20+ years of Rogan going "OoohoOOooh"
