I needed this podcast today! Battling my own demons from a list of mental health issues, letting everything get me down and struggling to get back up. So I took a day to just chill out and watch a podcast, and I'm so glad I chose this one. Everything Joe and Jimmy said about suicide is so true, I had 7 attempts to my name before I even turned 30, and I still have my moments to this day when the voices pop up in my head telling me to do something. What makes it worse is when people try to sympathise with you and how you're feeling, with things like "I know how you feel"... That's so dangerous, and the biggest lie ever because we never really know how people are feeling. ❤

Joe is there to listen, it's very much a professional discussion. Joe opens up a conversation and appreciates the participant extending that conversation and opening up new lines of thinking, on topic, with clarity and purpose. Great podcast, if I have taken one line out of this as a headline it would be "suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem"

the best advice I've ever gotten: If you're feeling depressed: You must get out of it because depression leads to nowhere and to nothing. There is nothing that can be accomplished within depression. And so if you find yourself depressed, figure out how to become angry. Whether it's at yourself, at God, at the world, whatever... get angry. Anger begets action and indeed, whatever that action might be, even if it's negative, it's better than the dirt-nothing that was in depression. Once you are actually -doing- anything, you are in a better state than the sorry, inaction of that depression and keep getting angry until you can string-together your way up and out of the bed, off the couch, out of the house.
@h7opolo4 ай бұрын
that's right. mushrooms taught me this. i wasn't angry at myself, i was angry at the world. cured my chronic depression with a trip. the next step in enlightenment is realizing anger is a path divergent from love, and one of these paths begets more happiness for all than the other path. It takes life experiences to advance to the path of love, even for nuisances, annoyances, and pure evil.

Jimmy Carr is one of my most favorite comedians, his audience engagement is always the best because it's crude humor but it's always presented in a lighthearted and fun way to where you couldn't possibly take genuine offense to it unless you were a walking red flag. Just genuinely good quips that don't attempt to attack or offend but really bring genuine levity in the hellscape we're all navigating until our coffins or urns.

Priests were once allowed to be married (Maronite Priests still can) but the problem was nepotism. Bishops were stacking a parish with his own kids, people were pushing their sons into positions of influence to gain control of business, etc. I think it was the First Lateran Council (1123) that forced priests to divorce their wives. Celibacy came with the Second Lateran Council (in 1139)
