Why do MMA fans feel so goddamn insecure after an MMA fighter loses in a Boxing match. They go straight to "If it was a real fight.....", but it wasn't. A non boxer lost to a boxer what's the issue here?
@libertatemadvocatus17978 ай бұрын
I respect both sports. I lean more towards MMA, but I think the reason why is the a lot of boxing fans are always like "Boxers can beat anyone at any time. Some kid boxing at the YMCA would easily knock out the best MMA fights with on punch in any rule set. The reason why he doesn't is because he'd make more money in a real sport." Now, a lot of fans of boxing do respect MMA and recognize the strengths of weaknesses of both sports and recognize that since there's a greater variety of weapons in MMA that MMA striking does not translate well into boxing since many of boxing's best tools could leave a fighter open to takedowns or kicks. It's mostly just shittalking between hypeboys.

This fight was just pointing out the obvious. Who in the right mind at the top level of heavyweight boxing takes 2 fights in 2 months, unless he doesn't take the first one seriously at all? That's what Fury did. Fury signed to fight Usyk next, a couple of days before fighting Ngannou, meaning that he took that fight as a warmup fight to get rid of the ring rust. It backfired, but that was the worst-case scenario for Fury and he still edged the win.

@@Jamie-c6j possible? Yes. Likely? Not when people are vested and put their chips down on either side. Joe will always be team MMA because he’s taekwondo background, and he was a big part of the UFC as a brand growing, promoting MMA. Admitting another martial art is superior to your own isn’t really going to happen in such a high pride environment. He says he ‘respects’ it, but in truth it’s a bit on the patronising side. When a guy comes in like Connor Macgregor beating a lot of the guys with fists, they never really talked about the fact he started as an amateur boxer before going into MMA, because it doesn’t support the narrative, it’s entirely possible a boxer in their prime could do really well in MMA. BJJ guys learn how to strike a little, nothing stopping boxers from learning a little takedown defence. Personally, I think let the individual fighters do the fighting, if your reason for A beating B is ‘they do ‘insert martial art here’, then that is just hyperbolic fanboy or casual bull crap. I’m only interested in breakdowns where people are picking up on specific analytical tactical breakdowns of the strengths of two individuals, but damn is it rare you come across that in the media.

This may change in the future due to the rise of mma worldwide, but up until a few years back no mma gym accepted kids nor was it popular for parents to sens their 10 year old to do mma. Most talent is in boxing and wrestling since young age, and most people stick to what they are good at. Sure some good boxers and wrestlers will try out in another discipline as they get older, but most will stay in their respective sports. The ones that were good but not that good will diversify and come to mma. @luizde-rossi643 No prime boxers go to mma because there's far less money to be made in mma. Simple as that. Once the well has run dry, washed up guys like Toney or Ray Mercer (who wiped out former UFC champ Tim Sylvia in seconds) will sometimes make the jump for a quick payday. That's about as far as it goes. You'll need someone like the Saudis to start offering silly money if you wanna see prime-level cross-promotional bouts go the other way. Until that happens there's no motivator for high level boxers to make the jump

Why would Manny Pacquiao, in the middle of his career, say "I want to do MMA?" To be called a "bad man" by dudes on the internet? It's like me suggesting Joe to leave podcasting and go work in the coal mines to prove to me that he really is a hardworking person.

Rogan has never known much about boxing. Everybody now knows.
