Khabib decided to turn a fucking title fight into a sparring training and he ended up destroying Al's face coz clearly he has such a "amateur" striking game.

I rewatched the fight on mute and it was a one sided beat down. He had his chin up in the air because he controlled the range with his jab and he was luring raging Al to swing and come off his low wrestling stance. The 4 takedowns Rogan called failed takedowns were more Khabib letting go because he didnt want to blow too much energy if hadnt grabbed the leg the way he wanted to. Joe i am a huge fan of you but that commentary was beyond pathetic...

exactly. Rounds 3-5 while mainly standing Khabib outpunched Raging Al by something like 52 - 6 strikes and literally lite up Al. How can that be commented as a negative? If his chin was that open why didnt Al touch the chin(won last 3 fights in a total of 3 minutes). Roy Jones 1992-2003 made a career of an open chin but reflexes jab and movement won him titles. If Khabib was that useless on the feet why didnt Al hurt him

I honestly think Khabib gave the kid a chance on round 3 and 4 to let him shine a bit, he gave him mad respect at the end for showing up in such short notice, you can even hear his corner telling him to go back to the original strategy so I don't think this fight should be your point of reference to evaluate Khabib's stand ability.

Nothing against Al but I think Khabib was playing with his food again, Joe. If he wanted Al on the mat he would have put him there, at any point in the fight. He was making a show of it and trying to put on a good fight for the fans. No one ever said he was ace at stand up but he obviously felt comfortable enough to play that card for a few rounds and it worked, eh?
@WWITim
@WWITim 6 жыл бұрын
DeadlyFredXXX Maybe, but from my perspective I don’t think the takedowns were a cakewalk for Khabib. I saw that Khabib’s most successful takedowns were up against the cage and not in the center, and it might have been a little draining to drive Al to the cage. I also don’t think Khabib was playing with Al either; he was actively searching for some subs as soon as the fight hit the floor. But Al was never broken and was able to survive terrible situations. However, once it was standing Al’s striking was compromised cause of the threat of takedowns. Which ultimately allowed Khabib’s boxing game to get going. Khabib dominated that fight, but it was game the entire time imo

@Othmane131
@Othmane131 6 жыл бұрын
Personally i thought that Joe was a little bit biased during the Khabib and Al fight and didn't give any credits to Khabib who dominated Al all five rounds. He kept saying through the whole fight that Al was exposing Khabibs weaknesses and vulnerability but didn't elaborate or explained what those weaknesses were. That was literally a textbook performance from Khabib, perfect with no fault, when was the last time someone won a unanimous decision so decisively (50/44-50/43-50/43) ? People keep saying that Al Iaquinta took the fight on one day notice .. excuse me but Al was scheduled to fighy in the same night against Felder, it's not like he was sitting at home watching a soap opera and the called him to ask him to fight. If anything, the pressure was on Khabib, he had everything yo lose facing Al, training for months and preparing for Tony Ferguson then have his opponent changed 4 times in less than a week ? Khabib too was noticed 24h before to fight Al. Before the fight a lot of people kept saying that Al might k.o Khabib (we all know Al has powerful hands), he beat guys like Masvidal, Kevin Lee, Diego Sanchez, Ross Person etc, plus he's got good wrestling so this might be an upset. But after a more than dominant performance from Khabib where he took him down at ease in the 1st and 2nd round, stood up with up in the later rounds and outstricked him on the feet, jabed him at will all night long, proved that he's got a solid chin (again Al is a powerful boxer), and wasn't aftaid to change the game plan (wrestle Al) and stood up with him, people said after the fight that he was weak in the fight, boring, Al exposed him (?), and that Tony and Conor would have won thay night against him if they fought. First of all if you think Khabib is boring, you need to switch to another chanel and watch some stupid reality show. Secondly, if you guys think that Khabib would have fought the same way against Tony or Conor, then you are crazy. Khabib is a smart fighter and changes his game plan and way to approach the fight depending on the opponent he's facing. If he was fighting Conor, you can be sure he would not stand up with him and rather take him down from the very beginning and probably would end the fight quickly. Same thing with Tony, Khabib would not shoot for the same takedowns against him and risk getting caught in a vulnerable position. So yeah, basically Khabib did whatever the fuck he wanted to do with Al yesterday and showed us that he wasn't afraid to stand up and proved that his chin can take hits (obviously like said previously, if he was fighting Conor or Tony, he would have fought them differently). Now whether you like it or not Khabib is the new lightweight champion, not his fault that Tony had to pull out, Max couldn't make weight, and Pettis wanted more money to face him. We'll see what the future holds for him . As for us, let us all just appreciate the fact that fighters like Khabib and Tony and Conor etc are fighting in the same weight class and hope that we see them all fight each other someday. Maybe Conor will be the man to drop him, or Tony the man to submit him, but that we don't know yet. As for now: #And_new #26_0

Joe needs to watch Luke Thomas’s MMA Analyst on UFC 223. He shows how great Khabib was and that it wasn’t a bad performance at all, striking defence fits is tailored to his style. Just like Dominick Cruz and Yoel Romero, it looks wrong and shouldn’t be taught to beginners, but when incorporated for them, it’s perfect. Khabib is something else.

Khabib is 'ducking' the guy he was going to fight on Saturday... Dana said he doesn't want to book that fight again, so Tony has to beat someone before he gets another shot. GSP (according to Khabib) said he wants to win the 155 belt and Khabib has dreamed of fighting him. GSP is way way way way way way way better than Tony. Khabib literally said that he would fight anyone at 155 on Saturday; he's not ducking anyone.

For Khabib to think he can ragdoll GSP is iiiiinsane!!!😂😂😂it would be the other way around! Styles makes fights and GSP would destroy Khabib. Khabib can't man handle GSP and GSP trains with the Olympic Grappling team. I do love Khabib but I think it's another hype train, but I think he can be that G.O.A.T, he definitely have that potential but he's not there yet. I seen a big hole in his game last night on the feet and an elite mma fighter can and will keep him on his feet one day and when that happens what will he do?

Max may have, but I'm not so sure Khabib would have been dumb enough to stand and bang with Max. I think Khabib wanted to prove a point. Even Al Iaquinta said on the MMA hour that he couldn't land any of his combinations on Khabib. True, Max is a way better boxer than Al but Al is no slouch. I don't know, I just don't think Joe's being fair to Khabib. Khabib is never gonna be a boxer, but I think it's dangerous to underestimate him.

Yeah, you know who else did that? GSP. I'm not saying that the guy is ever gonna beat Max or Conor in stand up. All I'm saying is that style works for some fighters. His chin was up and of course I would've liked to see him hide that chin behind his forward shoulder but look, Mayweather backs with his chin up too and he does alright. It's not the end all and be all. That jab was fast, the footwork was decent and he threw some kicks in there when Al wanted to stand in the pocket. Al never landed a single combination and never was able to figure out his reach. When you've just mauled a guy for two straight rounds though, standing up is not as dangerous because your opponent is going to be a step behind you. If Khabib had decided to stand in round 1, then yes, you have a point.

CorescopePlays Exactly. These two are specialists in their game. It all depends on who can utilize their tools. If Khabib can get him down consistently for five rounds he wins. If Connor can stuff his takedowns he wins inside 3 Imo. Tony Ferguson, however, is a totally different animal. I see Tony beating Khabib. Especially after the other night.

I honestly think Khabib was toying with him. His stand up is junk but he terrified Al with the wrestling in the first two rounds. He decided to stand up with Al in rounds three and four knowing that in the back of Al’s head, he wouldn’t fully commit for fear of being owned on the ground. This, despite his corner’s advice. Khabib wanted to make a show of it.

Khabib felt comfortable after dominant first 2 rounds and couldn't wait to show people that annoying ass jab he's been fashioning up in the shed. Was doing the trick so why not show off a bit "look guys! I can outstrike a striker with this thing!" More power to him. Would've been a different story if Al was lighting him up first two rounds. Al also had the wrestling background to know how to stand low with a wide stance and and evade the takedowns, was sweaty, and they were having fun out there. People getting a little to excited about Khabib's holes in striking-- nothing we didn't already know...and they weren't all that bad. His defense is actually quite good. Al is just an underrated baddass motherfucker with a good style to fight Khabib and people hold Khabib to an impossible standard. You don't hear people talking about holes in McGregor's wrestling game because he's not a wrestler. No different.

I agree exactly with Joe..I tweeted to Khabib and team to NOT underestimate AL, and to watch as much video's of him that u can up until the fight. A LOT of studyin him and prob did it for hours and hours..which , or I said that a day before cuz the next day I see khabib on the bed watching AL's fights with one of his people. Just glad he did, I was Khabib DO NOT underestimate this young fighter. He has beat LEGIT LEGIT competition. Like AL is a fucking YOUNG and BEATS UP LEGENDS..dude is a fucking animal. Only reason he looked like he was on that level when fighting, but think about how good AL is, and look what Khabib did. I HONESTLY THINK Khabib don't try or want to KO anyone if he don't have too...I really think he has so much respect for fighters that give him respect. Like just watching the dominance at a certain point if u KNOW how GOOD AL is, you're like OMFG !!!! like a bear playing with a dead rabbit and Khabib wasn't going 100 percent.. The fights we will see like BAD THINGS happen behind those ground and pound punches and elbows. You piss that guy off ENOUGH , he could like EASILY KILL a man in there..Not an average man. No a high ranking UFC / MMA fighter. He could kill them if he wanted. First round. Life and death..YOU ARE FUCKED, and hes walking out on his feet.

a couple pieces of information that Joe should know. 1. Zabit broke his hand prior to his fight with Kyle, this was a factor during the fight 2. Khabib said after the fight he slowed down in the 3rd because he recognized this was a five round fight. The five rounds were a factor 3. Just cause someone beats someone in a fight doesn't mean they should be ranked higher. The fact is people do get lucky during fights. An example was Eddie Alvarez fighting RDA. A lot of people don't know that RDA passed out 30min before that happened from the weight cut. IMO Eddie was never better than RDA, but he won the fight that night.

Thats what the best athletes do, they make opponents look like amateurs. Michael Jordan, Floyd Mayweather, Ronaldo and so on. It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, act tough and say bad things and criticize people. Iaquinta managed to stuff several takedowns but he is a good wrestler. I would just advise you to shut the fuck up really cause you seem clueless about their skills.

Iaquinta has balls, he went into primal survival mode and didn’t allow Khalabeed to break his spirit the first 2 round. He bit down on his mouthpiece and was throwing until the final bell.

Spence Mumin You should post Khabib's record 😆 He fought a bunch of nobodies. He just beat the #10 ranked guy by a 5 round decision for the championship belt... smh At least Conor beat a few big names: Holloway(current champ), Alvarez and Aldo(former champs)

If you watch the fight khabib was clearly not trying to maul him because he respected Al for taking the fight and staying in it. From the first two rounds it was clear that khabib would smash. So khabib said ok I’ll be nice.
