Back in the 1980's some of elementary students would go down to Kim's Tae Kwon Do for 2 hours in a small town, then walk home. It was something to do after-school. My family moved to the outskirts of a large town and they had karate. It was totally different, it was just aimed at winning in tournaments by points, nothing to do with defending yourself. It's really different from place to place.

TKD, Kung fu, Kung fu and such are mostly based on fanciness. Muay thai has always been based on simplicity that works. Moreover, Old school TKD also has elbows and such but despite of its name, it is not really old school. Its actually a new TKD system with Muay thai in it. If original TKD had elbows (same to Karate and Kung fu), TKD would be known for elbows (low kicks, clinch, you name it) already esp it was explored to the West way before Muay thai. Muay thai just changed every stand up style today. You can already see that today TKD, Karate, Kung fu already started abandoning their fancy techniques and doing more simple Muay thai and Boxing techniques.

As my style is so superb, my original style is taekwondo, but I started learning more time when I was only a yellow belt in tae kwon do, ATH style, traditional, and other styles were added having your rhythm is what needs to be taught

Taekwondo actually originally incorporated elbows in their combos or attack strings believe it or not which were honestly pretty practical based on the description by the manuals that were written and drawn. However as Taekwondo branched out it seems they more so focused on the naming on Taekwondo which is "The way of Kicking and Punching" Meaning no longer using elbows eventuakly some branches just don't even really punch much anymore and focus too much on kicking.

you're not going to get brain injuries from amateur training with light sparring (with gear) here and there. Sports like football are much more likely to fuck you up in that regard

I still remember how beautiful and vicious the first time i saw Kuai Liang do his combo in MK3 the first time..a video game yes but I cant deny the fact that when i saw the dude with a long red scar on his face and blue ninja costume hit the elbow in a super long combo along with a back fist of death?? Awesome..looked exactly as the one showed in this video with the guy that is obviously teaching it on that practice dummy

People gotta understand there are 3 types of taekwondo. There's the 2 Olympic taekwondos that consist of performance taekwondo(called forms or sumthin) and sport taekwondo with a point system. The fighting taekwondo is the least popular as it removes so many essential aspects of combat like joe mentioned. Taekwondo in combination with a strong base in MMA is the way to go

As a korean who got to 2nd degree blackbelt in tkd i agree with rogan. If you really want to train to fight tkd isnt the way. Tkd is more of a sport then fighting style.

In Thailand's public high school, I was being taught Muay Thai in P.E. class. All my classmates; boys, girls, femboys, tomboy, the weaboos, all have to pass a certain threshold to pass the class😅 The coach will be harder on the girls and the femboys(Kaatoey) especially, in case they got bullied. I still remember when I got a knee to my hip by a mere 5 ft girl after I catcalled her. I droped HARD and rolled on the floor for a whole minute💀 No girls and gay kids got teased after that class since😂

The funny thing is, if you learn traditional tae kwon do, it’s not just legs that is Americanized tae kwon do. Originally, they used arms and legs for defense and offense it’s best to take your martial arts from multiple styles, though be less predictable.
