I’m thinking like a business man, not like a fight-fan man. Here’s what’s happening, Diaz is hard to make fights for. He wants the top guys, but only the top guys he asks for. In unison with that fact, he wants “money” fights. On that end, he doesn’t want to accept a trilogy fight with McGregor, the “real money fight.” SO… Dana gives him a top 3 contender with fans who will pay paper-view, a money fight with a top 5 contender.. AND.. he doesn’t want it. Nate is a super hard guy to please.

Nate said in interviews he never wanted this fight. The negotiations were, besides money- sign 10 of Nates fighters to the UFC, or no deal to fight chimaev. The UFC gave in and signed 10 of Nates guys after the UFC was himming and hawing over certain fighters. Diaz said- sign all or no deal. The UFC folded in bringing them in, hence, the fight of Diaz accepting this terrifying fight. There was no way he was backing out of it.

I love how this narrative got spun that nate actually wanted ngannou. He literally said in an interview all he meant by it was somebody doing something great in the sport such as ngannou or Izzy (NOT THEM SPECIFICALLY) are the only people he feels he should be fighting at this stage in his career. The reason people like nate is because in MMA there's 2 types of fighters. 1.guys that fight for sport. They try to win rounds by squeaking more points than opponents like GSP or krystov jotko type. 2. A fighter. A guy that goes in the cage to show the world that they can thrive and survive whatever the world throws at them. When they lose, it doesn't matter because the world saw the real fight. Not the point fight. A fight to the death may favor these men over a point fighter and the people can observe that as REAL. I don't know if it's Dana White pushing this narrative that Nate asked for this fight because he literally just said at the UFC press thing that he did NOT ask for this fight. That it's obvious their using Nate's Fame and this fight to benefit Khamzat popularity.
