What was everyone else doing? Laughing. Everyone, laughing. I remember one lady saying to stop the ride as I was passing the operator and HE was laughing! I worked for a traveling show(that shall remain nameless) and I operated The Zipper for 2 years back in the early 1990s. I trained for 6 months on assembling and disassembling. Then Bumpy (not actual name but the actual ride operator) let me do all the work while he supervised me. After 2 attempts I nailed the assemble 100%. After another show the local inspectors complimented me on my work. I traveled with them 9 months out of the year and had the option to join them on Pureto Rico for an extra 3 weeks of work at higher pay. I miss those days...I had one kid brag in line that he would never puke on My Zipper. I loaded him myself instead of letting my assist do it and whispered in his ear..."I'm not letting you off this ride until you puke". I ran him thru 3 cycles and he puked everything he ate that night. I laughed my ass off while pressure washing the car out. I got called to the carpet the next day and basiclly told the boss "he was asking for it". The boss laughed and said "Don't do it again" It was funny and awesome Edit: Topsfield, MA. I just past the firgrounds today on a delivery

There's a version of the freak out called the Super Nova that has you sitting on the outside (facing out instead of facing inside at each other) that does complete rotations, I love that ride

My childhood friend was part of a traveling carny family. I went with them a lot of the time. Was much fun. I could live like that. Love it.

I went on a carnival ride as a young kid that just went in a loop over and over. The seatbelts didn’t fit and as the car I was in went upside down, I would be falling out due to gravity. Held onto the top bar for my life and after the third time around, they finally stopped the ride to let me off. They didn’t have cages when I was a kid. I’m only 25 years old. Never went on a carnival ride again after that.

I remember being in marching band in Oklahoma in the 90s and we always got to go to the State Fair because it was like a big marching band competition on it's like opening day or whatever so we get to go and hang out there in the evening. And I was on the Gravitron and while it was spinning I started pushing against the gravity and I got my feet up under the pad and stood up on that back pad like it was a surfboard and the guy operating the thing got really mad. He's a screaming so loud it was over that crazy loud music and I had to sit back down quick or he was going to kill the ride for all of us
