Holloway is an incredible fighter and performer. Such a humble dude too. But you have to wonder if he needs to start moving his style of fighting away from the toe 2 toe brawling we all love to watch. Remember he had to pull out of the Ortega fight originally because of a concussion (KZbin the interview when he was on another planet) and he took a TON of damage against Poirier. Dudes a great guy, I'd fucking hate to see him end up punchy and less of a person than he was.
@MrRhubarbs5 жыл бұрын
The concussion thing is overblown. The UFC did all these tests and found nothing that pointed to that. On a ama recently Max said he knew what happened but he wasn't allowed to talk about it which kinda sounds like something sketchy happened to him like poisoning etc. Can't have been something he did to himself cos 1 he's an honest person and 2 saying he's 'not allowed' sounds like legal drama
@1Learn2Swim35 жыл бұрын
Poisoning? Seems like stretch. If he was poisoned and had ongoing legal matters regarding it, they would be in the form of a criminal prosecution which would be public along with civil suits or whatever which can be very secretive. I don't buy that. I think he probably got his bell rung in sparring (gyms do have NDA's that fighters sign) or had to do with cutting weight. Either way he's taken a lot of damage in his career and those stand and bang guys more often than not develop some serious neurological problems far more often than the Lyoto Machida type fighters. I hope he bounces back from this L and goes on another run

Props to DP. He got the job done. Max got messed up big time. It was clear to see that part of the strategy was to allow Max to get 2 or 3 for one bomb. I'm a biased Hawaiian. Holloway had a horrible corner and game plan. No adjustments the whole fight. Max got hit with one shot right hands and counter rights all night. Not one attack to the front leg all night to neutralize power. Not enough finishing combos with kicks. Not enough body work. DP got to load up on his big shots. Max never used his speed advantage. He tried the same Ortega strategy and paid the price.
@hurfdurfy81675 жыл бұрын
Max landed 78 significant body strikes. He did a decent amount of body work if you ask me. Guy almost threw 1000 shots in this fight.
@hgkal8085 жыл бұрын
@MrBrenman21 Ahhh. But you are in a position to say that "I am not in a position" to critic the corner. Hypocritical or not? Just saying. In my opinion... a corner is judged by fight strategy and in fight adjustments. I am certainly in a position to judge that. Max was overly agreesive to a fault. Push the pace but not at the expense of getting hit with TOO MANY power shots. 5 from DP is maybe equal to 10 of Ortega. Who said leg kicks are only meant to stop power shots? Sometimes it is about an opponent who is loading up on the front foot and/or disturbing balance. No? You sir do not know me. Why act like you do? Of course I am no tough guy. I bet you are though. Max was not in and out for the first two rounds like before he was the champ. In the pocket is not his thing early. He tried to bang it out too early. He is Deep Water Holloway. Split the first 4 at worse and push like hell in the 5th. DP WON. No fefe. I am a Holloway fan from da westside. He tried something new. First round set the tone.
@hgkal8085 жыл бұрын
@MrBrenman21 I didn't see it in this one. I think he is the quicker and faster fighter. DP had a lot to do to neutralize that. But I also did not see enough angles. His style seemed as if he was continuing from the Ortega 4th round.
@hgkal8085 жыл бұрын
@@hurfdurfy8167 He did work the body, yes. But not significent enough IMO. DP just ate most of it. IMO he should have taken DP on a 4minute mile run for the first 2 rounds then work the body or incorporate knee strikes and/or leg kicks to the body.

They looked like they were about the same weight to be honest. Poirier just looked like he had more muscle. I mean Max didn't really move his head and wasn't very light on his feet. Give credit to Poirier man. I really feel like featherweight is just the weaker weight class compared to lightweight.

Andrew Zimmern I really do not think Kevin Lee's Bjj is all that. And not so sure about Pettis either. The only way I see Tony winning is via submission on his back or just on the ground in general. But those three are not exactly what I would consider true top tier fighters. Then again the only aspect about Khabib that is top tier is his takedown ability and literally nothing else. He is no GSP, that is for sure.

Poirer's bjj is just as effective as both Pettis and Tony Ferguson. People forget poirer was the first person in ufc history to have multiple D'Arce choke wins. Tony may be more creative and scramble based than poirer but when it comes to pure execution and technique dustin is a real black belt level and he is stronger than pettis

Brendan is talking about max as the greatest featherweight of all time? Look, max is great, don’t get me wrong, but how quickly everyone forgets. Aldo is definitely best featherweight ever. He was the champ for years, and even before the ufc took in the featherweight division, he was the FW champ in the WEC. Aldo beat everybody during his reign. He was dominant for so long. But it seemed liked that ko from Conor McGregor changed him. I guess being KO’d to unconsciousness in 13 seconds to lose you title will do that to a person. But whatever the case, he was not the same after that and after a couple losses people quickly forgot about how dominant he was for all those years. He has looked better as of late tho. Maybe he’s finally gonna get back to his old self again? 🤞 here’s hoping 🤞

@dustingaskin5675 жыл бұрын
Idk about him knocking him out. I just think Poirier was tired in those 3rd and 4th rounds from throwing and landing those bombs early. But he caught a second wind and won that 5th round imo to win the fight. But I agree, that choke was in deep.... But you can't say "he almost" or "if he'd had more time". That's just the game and you can't use that excuse. It was a great fight and a war but all that doesn't matter bc Poirier still won the fight (rightfully so). But I do agree that he should stay at 155!! I disagree with them and Dana about that. For Max's first ever lw fight they threw him in there against a big, strong and powerful 155er who was ranked #3 at the time (he's #2 now behind only Khabib). And Holloway still done great!! Made it a war and barley lost! I think with time Holloway can bulk up a lil bit more and get more power behind his punches at 155. Bc besides that he still looked amazing! He still moved fast, threw a lot of volume, had an iron chin at 155 too (not having to cut that extra weight usually helps your chin too) bc Poirier was landing bombs on him and landing a huge knee that split his head open and Max never folded! And Poirier's finished guys like Pettis, Alvarez and Gaethje with those punches but not Max and his cardio was still great as well. The difference in the fight was the power and the damage Poirier inflicted. But with time I believe Max could get more power and be stronger at 155 and REALLY be a threat in the lw division! I hope he goes back to 155 bc with more time he'd do nothing but get better at 155... And also who's really left for him at 145 lbs? Ortega was the big one we wanted to see and Max turned him into a human punching bag and beat the shit out of him! (Rogan kept saying it was a war but he's just being biased. There was nothing competitive about that fight!). And he's already beat AND finished Aldo twice! All that's left is maybe Edgar? And even tho I'm a big Edgar fan, I just don't see him beating Max. That's why I'd like to see him go back to 155. I really think after a couple fights and after his body gets adjusted to it, he'd be a fucking monster in the lw division as well!
@dustingaskin5675 жыл бұрын
@@petars4444 That is true. Poirier used to finish a lot of his fights by submission. He's a legit black belt in bjj and has a very underrated ground game. Just watch the Pettis fight.
